A common line in detective and mystery works is, "It's the curse of XX! The ghost of XX has taken revenge!", but in most works, nothing like that exists; everything is caused by humans, and the occult doesn't really exist. However, in this work, the occult exists as a matter of course, and the main incident in the first season was caused by the occult. So, this time we've compiled a list of the strange happenings that appear in the work!

Mystery No. 1: Kotoko Iwanaga

Kotoko Iwanaga

The protagonist of this work. Although she looks like a cute child, she is currently a university student. When she was 11 years old, she was kidnapped by a mysterious being and asked to become the god of wisdom for the mysterious beings. Kotoko agreed, and lost one eye and one leg to become the god of wisdom for the mysterious beings. She plays the role of a mediator between the mysterious beings and human society, and her job is to solve occult-related cases that occur in modern times. He is a detective, but he has no hesitation in relying on occult powers to get to the truth of the case, making him a unique detective role that is unbecoming of a mystery protagonist.

Mystery No. 2: Sakuragawa Kuro

Sakuragawa Kuro

Iwanaga Kotoko's current lover? He is also like a partner. He originally had a lover who was engaged to him, but they broke up when he found out that he was a "monster so violent that it scares people and makes them run away." Her true identity is a human who ate the flesh of a mermaid and the aforementioned meat, and gained an immortal body and the ability to decide the future. To the monsters, she appears to be a horrible monster that is a mix of a human and a monster, and is feared by all the monsters who adore Kotoko.

Monster #3: Sakuragawa Rikka

Sakuragawa Rikka

Sakuragawa Kuro's cousin and first love. A human who, like Kuro, gained an immortal body and the ability to decide the future by eating the flesh of a mermaid and the aforementioned meat. By repeatedly experimenting with his own body and making full use of his ability to determine the future, he succeeds in creating a monster of urban legend called Steel Man Nanase. His purpose was to create a supernatural being who could restore his body to its original state. Although he was defeated in the battle over Steel Man Nanase, he seems to continue his secret activities in the future.

Supernatural being No. 4: Baketanuki

Tanuki

A tanuki that can transform into a human. He came to inform Kotoko that the barrier of the library had been broken. A type of supernatural being that has been passed down since ancient Japan, the oldest description of the Baketanuki is said to be in the Nihon Shoki from the Nara period. The tanuki in this work is an extremely good-natured yokai.

Mystery #5: Fallen warrior

Falling warrior

The remains of warriors who lost in battle during the Sengoku period. After fleeing the battlefield, they are destined to be hunted as fallen warrior hunters. In recent years, the word has also been used in a political sense, and candidates who lose in elections are sometimes called fallen warriors. The fallen warriors in this work look so scary that they seem to have died without regret and are cursing the world, but they are actually very good-natured ghosts.

Mystery No. 6: Kappa

Kappa

A monster whose whole body is green and has a plate on its head. There is a legend that it is good at swimming and likes cucumbers. Some people have the image of it being a prankster and not harming humans, while others have the image of it dragging people to the water and drowning them, or killing them by pulling out their anal beads. The image of the kappa that appeared in this work is the latter, and there are depictions of it actually killing people, but when it encountered Sakuragawa Kuro, it ran away, uttering fear.

Mystery No. 7: Giant Snake

Giant Snake

A giant snake worshipped as a water god in Tsukuna Numa. It is as big as a dragon, strong and intelligent, and is the guardian deity of the swamp, and is rumored to be a man-eater. It is said that in the past, people offered sacrifices to make it rain. A certain person muttered some meaningful words and dumped a corpse in the swamp, so he was really curious about the reason and asked Kotoko for help. It was once called a man-eating giant snake, and apparently it has actually eaten sacrifices, but it is not very tasty, and it seems to be avoided recently because it is troublesome.

Mystery No. 8: Steel Man Nanase

Steel Man Nanase

After the death of idol Karin Nanase, who died in an accident in which her face was crushed by a steel beam, this urban legend monster attacks people every night with the steel beam that caused the accident and the crushed face and idol appearance. It is a unique existence even among the mysteries in this work because it is so violent that it stands out from other mysteries and has no intelligence. In reality, it is a monster of the imagination created by Sakuragawa Rikka using her own abilities and a summary site, and is an embodiment of the image of the bulletin board posts and the top picture of the summary site. Its ferocity is based on the content of the post.

Mystery No. 9: Gashadokuro

Gashadokuro

A giant skeleton made from the skeletons and grudges of those who died in battle. The concept of the Gashadokuro itself was created in the early Showa period, and its image is easily reminiscent of the paintings hanging in Utagawa Hiroshige's ukiyo-e prints. In the story, Kotoko uses it as a means of transportation.

Mystery No. 10: Ghosts

Ghosts

The souls of the dead are unable to rest in peace and remain. Various ghosts appear in the story, including the ghosts of children and men who died at construction sites. Ghosts in this work are reliable sources of information for Kotoko, and are excellent spies who are not detected by anyone. When they go to the scene of an incident, they directly ask the spirits that are rampant there about the truth of the incident, and although it is supposed to be a mystery work, they reach the truth in a surprising way. They are very useful and reliable for Kotoko.

Mystery No. 11: Snow Woman

Snow Woman

A monster that appears in the episode "Snow Woman's Dilemma" in season 2. A beautiful female monster wearing a kimono who lives in the snowy mountains. It all started when she whimsically rescued Muroi Masayuki, who was betrayed by his friend and stranded, and about 10 years later she reunites with Muroi. The famous Yuki-onna by Lafcadio Hearn appears in the story. She has a quirky personality, but is also cheerful and compassionate. She sometimes visits towns where humans live, but she seems to have difficulty adapting to the recent high-tech culture.

【Kyokou Suiri Season 2】Summary of the supernatural phenomena that appear

We have compiled a list of the supernatural phenomena that appear in Kyokou Suiri! Although it is a mystery of detective work, the aim is to use supernatural powers and the occult to solve the case smoothly, rather than uncovering the truth of the case, which is very interesting, like Legal High! Season 2 will also revolve around various supernatural phenomena! The second season will also be broadcast in January 2023, so I'm looking forward to it!
