From the serious work of the idols to the hilarious antics of the otakus, Oshibudo offers a variety of highlights. This time, we'll be ranking some of those memorable scenes, from heartwarming quotes to hilarious lines that will have you asking, "What on earth is this guy talking about?" We'll be introducing them starting from 10th place, so be sure to check it out!
10th Place: The Scene Where Eripiyo Gives a Speech to Kumomaro
Our top ten pick is the scene where Eripyo gives a speech to Kumomaro! Eripyo and Kumasa had been staying the night at an internet cafe near the nearest station the night before for the cham jam event. However, when they realized they had gone to the wrong location, they frantically ran off to the event venue. However, Kumasa collapsed on the way there, exhausted... "Even if I go slowly, I won't make it to the live show, but I'll make it to the special event," Kumasa said, sounding weak and unbecoming of a top otaku. Eripyo, with a look on her face she had never seen before, yelled, "Being an idol otaku isn't just a rich person's hobby!!" and left Kumasa behind, continuing to run to the venue.
Ninth Place: A Word Sorane Said to Motoi
In ninth place is this line Sorane says to her fans: "I love people who love me." Sorane often says lines like this unconsciously, but any fan would be overwhelmed if their favorite character said something like this... Motoi was originally a Sorane fan, but this line made me fall in love with Sorane even more.
Eighth Place: The Scene Where Kumasa Passionately Talks About Handshake Tickets
Ninth place goes to this line Kumasa said to Eripyo and Ki: "Five seconds with your favorite idol for 1,000 yen. Isn't it exciting?" This refers to the handshake ticket that comes with a CD purchase. Instead of chatting with the members while they're handing out flyers, fans should buy the CD for 1,000 yen and enjoy five seconds of interaction (conversation and a handshake). If you get excited by such thoughts, you're already a serious otaku, but when it comes to Eripyo's level, you'll want to buy every minute of your favorite idol's CDs and end up buying up all of theirs.
Seventh Place: Eripyo's Quote About Wanting Maina to Appear on TV
For seventh place, I chose this famous line from Eripyo to Maina! "I'm sorry I couldn't give birth to you!" If you just listen to this, you'll have no idea what she's talking about... but she said this after seeing the members of Cham Jam on TV and wishing Maina would appear on TV too. Eripyo genuinely regrets that if she had given birth to Maina, she could have applied for a baby introduction segment on TV and put her on TV... This is pretty crazy (lol).
Sixth Place: Miyu's Heartfelt Quote
Our sixth place pick is this quote from Eripyo's friend, Miyu! "Be grateful that the person you love is in the same dimension as you!" I'm sure many anime fans can relate to these words (lol). Miyu, who is obsessed with the anime character Fuutarou, laments that they'll never be together, and Eripyo empathizes, saying, "I understand." However, the gap between 2D and 3D is quite large, and Eripyo is so angry that she can't help but apologize.
After that, Miyu becomes one of the few otaku who intimidates Eripyo...
Idol otaku and anime otaku. This relationship seems similar but is not the same, and Miyu, the anime otaku, basically dominates Eripyo. Eripyo is completely uninterested in anime. When asked about her impressions after watching the anime, she could only briefly respond with, "The colors are beautiful..." Miyu responds, "How shallow! I'll kill you!" and passionately adds, "I want you to see how Fuutarou lives his life! Fuutarou is alive!" Seeing Miyu like that, Eripyo's face turns pale and she thinks, "Otakus are scary."
Fifth Place: The Scene Where Eripyo Retrieves the Title
I chose this scene for fifth place because of the line that also serves as the title of the work: "I wouldn't mind dying if Maina went to Budokan!" Eripyo is always thinking about Maina, saying, "I love Maina, who is working hard as an idol," and "I don't want her to be mine, but rather, I want her to be everyone's." Her ultimate goal is a live performance at the Budokan! While Tokimoto and Kumasa think it's impossible, Eripyo is serious about it, and the members of Cham Jam are also aiming for the Budokan.
Fourth Place: The Scene When Eripyo Became Desperate for Money
For fourth place, we chose Eripyo's famous line when she was seriously injured and unable to work: "All I can think of is my organs!" "I'll sell my organs!" At the time, Eripyo was unable to work due to her broken bone and was broke. With no income, she could only buy one of Maina's CDs at a time. Frustrated by not being able to support Maina, Eripyo thought that the only thing she could sell was her organs, as she had long ago sold off her fashionable clothes. Incidentally, after this, she even seriously asked Maina where her organs could be sold (lol).
Third Place: The Scene Where Eripyo Arrives Late for the Popularity Poll
I chose this as third place because of the scene where Eripyo says something serious with a straight face: "The money for Maina, I just want to use it for Maina." On this final day of the popularity poll, Eripyo, unconscious after falling into the river (and nearly drowning), arrives late to the venue. The popularity poll had already ended, so Eripyo was no longer eligible to vote for these CDs...but she still bought all of Maina's CDs and brought them home, saying that it was money she'd earned for her. Maina, who had heard the story and followed her, later spotted them, and without Eripyo's knowledge, she was deeply moved.
Second Place: A Scene Where Eripyo Rarely Expresses Her Feelings Honestly
My second place pick is from the scene where Eripyo expresses her feelings to Maina during a live performance in Tokyo. "I love you more today than I did yesterday, so I'm sure I'll love you even more tomorrow." Eripyo casually utters such a manly line. Why can't he do this all the time? When I saw this scene, I couldn't help but wonder where the usual Eripyo had gone (lol).
Eripyo completely ruins the mood after a memorable scene
Their conversation ends beautifully, a rare one. Maina blushes and says, "Thank you," as the two leave. Afterward, when Kumaki asks Eripyo if she regrets coming all the way to Tokyo, she beautifully replies, "If it wasn't for today, I might not have felt that way." If it had ended there, everything would have ended beautifully, but... Immediately after, Eripyo yells, "You might never see Maina standing in a red-light district again!?", completely ruining the good mood.
First Place: Eripyo's Heartfelt Cry!
Our top pick goes to this passionate line from Eripyo! "I need every minute and every second of Maina in my life!!" This line, which appeared in the first episode and is so typical of Eripyo, who literally pours her entire life into Maina, has earned us the honor of winning first place. On this day, upon seeing Maina on stage, she immediately burst out in a nosebleed and collapsed. She lay down in the staff room. However, without waiting for her to recover, she returned to the venue, saying this line! ...but she collapsed from anemia, hit her forehead, and even broke her arm (self-proclaimed), but she still returned to the venue with determination.
Foreshadowing Resolved in Episode 30
By the way, before this line, she said, "I know Maina wouldn't think anything of it if I wasn't there," which was a bit of a hint. In Episode 30, Maina, feeling down, echoes Eripyo's sentiments by saying, "My fans would be fine even without me..." Hearing this, Eripyo suddenly realizes she had the same thoughts in Episode 1. This leads to the scene mentioned in the second place.
