Horimiya has been confirmed to be made into an anime starting in January 2021. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of popular works that are quickly made into anime, but in fact, Horimiya was a hard-working one that took a long time to be made into an anime. The publisher is Square Enix, and many works from the magazine it was published in have been made into anime, and in my personal opinion, I think it would not have been strange if it had been made into an anime sooner...but anyway, now that it has been happily decided that it will be made into an anime, I would like to take a step ahead and introduce the plot of Horimiya from the original work, as well as spoilers and character secrets!

Hori-san and Miyamura were not that close at first

Normal Miyamura

In the original work, the first time the two met and spoke was when Miyamura picked up Hori-san's eraser and handed it to him. At that time, Hori-san and Yuki did not know much about Miyamura and had the image of him as "dark," "nerd," and "like to say moe." The trigger for the two to suddenly become close was when they found out each other's secrets. Hori-san, who is usually flashy at school, is actually a plain person at home who does housework in place of her mother. Miyamura is the polar opposite of his plain image at school, with piercings and tattoos. After they started sharing secrets that no one knew about at school, they started to get along like family, not only at school but also after school. Miyamura quickly became a member of the Hori family, so much so that it was obvious that it wouldn't happen (laughs).

Toru didn't become Miyamura's rival...

Toru looks into the distance

Hori-san is beautiful and popular in class, and boys ask for her contact information and confess their love to her, so she is very popular. However, there is one boy who has a crush on Hori-san. Toru used to be in a close group with Hori-san, but one day he became curious about Miyamura, who had suddenly become close with Hori-san, and started talking to him. Miyamura is surprised to find out that Tohru likes Hori-san. Tohru is also surprised to see Miyamura's body covered in tattoos while changing for gym class. While both are surprised, the two learn the secret, and Tohru tells Miyamura that he will confess to Hori-san. What was strange here was how Miyamura easily showed Tohru his tattoo. In the original story, Miyamura desperately tries to hide his tattoo from his friends for the rest of his life, but for some reason he easily revealed the secret to Tohru. Perhaps he somehow sensed that they would become best friends in the future.

Tohru, a spectacular failure. But their relationship remains unchanged

Tohru confesses to Hori-san as he had predicted, and is spectacularly defeated. The next day, he comes to school with red eyes and staggers around, trying to tell Miyamura the result, but Miyamura has heard directly from Hori-san the day before that he had turned him down, so he comforts him in a panic, and a strange friendship is born between the two. By the way, the main reason why Hori dumped Tohru is because "he would scream when he sees me without makeup." In the original manga, she doesn't look like she's changed that much, but in reality, she has changed quite a bit. However, even after being dumped, Tohru remains a member of Hori's group as before. At first, he was heartbroken, but as time went on, he began to care about Yuki and started a new romance.

Yuriko, Izumi, Kyoko, and Konoha-san

Blushing Hori

One day, Hori's mother, Yuriko, hears Miyamura's story and says she would like to meet the two of them. At that time, Hori asked "What's the child's name?", which caused a bit of a commotion... By this time, Miyamura had been visiting Hori's house frequently and they had become quite close, but Hori didn't know Miyamura's first name. She tried glaring at the class roster (the teacher always took it with him so she couldn't see what it was), eavesdropping on conversations between Miyamura and the classmates (or rather, peeking into the locker room), and trying to get it from the teacher (the teacher was too airheaded to find out). Miyamura, who had been watching her, told her "You've been acting strange lately," so she confessed and asked Miyamura's name, and although she called him "Izumi" at first, she got embarrassed and ended up just calling him Miyamura.

Konoha-san in front of Yuki

Yuki looking at the sky
When the Miyamura name commotion calmed down for the time being and the conversation turned to Miyamura cross-dressing for some reason, someone came to Hori's house. Thinking it was a delivery person, Miyamura ran away to the entrance. However, it was not a delivery person but Hori's best friend Yuki who was there. They met at a close distance and it seemed that they would be found out, but... Yuki, who had been told by Hori that he was her "cousin" when she had seen him from a distance before, did not realize that it was Miyamura and mistook him for her cousin. When asked his name on the spot, Miyamura immediately answered "Konoha." Yuki fell in love with Konoha at first sight, and from that day on, she started to visit Hori's house frequently... By the way, Konoha is a character in a manga that Miyamura is reading.

Will Miyamura with a feminine face finally get her period?

Miyamura who looks like he's going to be taken to the bath

Miyamura and his friends are on a school trip. When it comes to school trips, it's common to go to the large public bath and take a bath together, but Miyamura has a tattoo, so he can't take a bath with everyone. Miyamura, who was about to be forcibly taken to the bathroom by Hide, made the excuse that she was feeling unwell and, while winking at Tohru, asked for help. Tohru then blurted out something along the lines of, "Miyamura, it's because I'm on my period..." The changing room was silent at this incomprehensible turn of events. However, although the students present said that they had been faced with an unexpected turn of events, none of them 100% denied that Miyamura was on her period. In the end, Miyamura got away with it by saying that it was her period, and left the changing room with a complicated look on his face. Miyamura, who had caused a confusing misunderstanding, was so upset that he even started telling Hori-san that she had a uterus.

A quarrel with the student council

Miyamura headbutting

Hori-san was asked to help out with the work until the next member got used to it after taking over the student council work. Because he had excellent grades, he was always relied on, but one day, a problem occurred with the work Hori-san was asked to do. Remi, who received a document from Hori-san, was not paying attention to the road ahead and bumped into Miyamura, scattering the documents, and ran away, leaving an important document that was among them saying "throw it away". Sengoku and Sakura noticed that the document was missing and asked Remi if she had received it properly, and Remi said that she had not received it, so Hori-san had to bear all the responsibility. Hori-san argues back, but is questioned harshly in front of the students and almost cries. Then Miyamura appears with documents and explains the whole story... but before he can, he hits Sengoku with a strong headbutt, leaving him slightly traumatized and forcing him to apologize to the student council.

Hori-san and Remi compete for Miyamura? Miyamura and Tohru get into a fistfight...

I won't give it to you! Hori shouts

When Hori-san and Remi were still not very familiar with each other, Remi asked Hori-san, "Are you Miyamura-kun's girlfriend?" Hori, who was not yet dating Miyamura at this point, naturally denied it. Then Remi asked if she could have Miyamura if they were not dating. Hori was about to be swept away at first, but corrected herself and denied it after all. When Remi said that if they were not dating, he did not belong to anyone, she pointed at Remi and said loudly, "Miyamura is mine! I will not give him away! Absolutely!!" In the end, this was just Remi's joke, but then a problem broke out between Tohru and Miyamura, who had overheard the conversation.

Miyamura and Tohru get into a fist fight! ...But the result was one-sided

Hori was in a panic when she saw Miyamura coming to school. The reason was that Miyamura's left cheek was red... Hori immediately asked what had happened and found out that it was a wound from a fight with Tohru. "He's stupid and an idiot, but he would never raise his hand against a friend..." Hori was thinking something a little cruel, but she was planning to question Tohru harshly when he came. However, when Tohru came to school, his face was in a terrible state compared to Miyamura's. Apparently, the fight started when Tohru was irritated by Miyamura's indecisive attitude towards Hori-san when he visited her house, but Miyamura was only injured by Tohru's hand by chance, and after that Tohru was completely beaten up by being straddled.

The first confession was "hand"

Miyamura says he likes me

Holding hands and saying he likes me many times... I should say in advance that at this point, the two were not dating yet (lol). It all started when Yuki held Hori-san's hand at school. As a result of this, while the two were watching a movie at Hori's house, they casually compared the size of their hands and started holding each other's. Then, Hori suddenly said, "I like you." Hori quickly corrected herself and said, "I like Miyamura's hands," but Miyamura also kept repeating that he liked "his hands," and the atmosphere became awkward after that. After much deliberation, they finally decided to act "normal" so that the other wouldn't notice, and the two never started dating at this point. By the way, when comparing the size of their hands, Horimiya told Tohru, "If you squeeze me, I'll kill you," so anyone would understand why she hugged him first...

Sakura in love with Tohru

Sakura by the window

I personally find the setting "Sakura is not very cute" just as strange as "Horimiya without makeup looks like a different person." No matter how you look at it, she is a cute character with a great figure and seems like she would be popular, but in the story, she is a poor character who is plain and is told by others that she is "not a good match" when walking with a popular person. She herself had a complex about this and had no interest in romance, but she began to like Tohru, who looked at her carefully and praised her. Sakura was in a completely girly mode, worrying about Tohru's love for Hori-san and enviously watching Tohru sell Yuki's head. When she baked cherry blossom-colored cookies and brought them to him, she was so embarrassed that smoke came out of her head when he said, "I like cherry blossom-colored cookies."

Miyamura and Shindo

Volume 5 cover

Miyamura's best friend, who could be called his benefactor, is Shindo Koichi. He was Miyamura's best friend since middle school, and was his only friend when he was bullied. Since middle school, he has been the polar opposite of Miyamura's, being a bright and popular member of the class. Although he can be a bit of a joker, he can get along with anyone, a bit like Hori-san. You'd think that Miyamura and his best friend would get along well, but in front of Shindo, Miyamura shows a side of himself that he doesn't show in high school, yelling at Shindo and hitting him. (He even hung up on the phone saying, "Die!") However, Miyamura also recognizes Shindo as a friend who changed his life, and although his attitude is completely different, he seems to be grateful to him just like Hori-san, who changed his life in high school. By the way, Shindo was his classmate, but he repeated a year in high school and is now one year younger than him.

Miyamura suddenly confesses and leaves

Miyamura confesses

Up until now, everyone had been in a relationship, but for now, the two had not officially confessed or anything and were no longer dating. However, on the day that Hori-san was absent from school due to a cold, Miyamura turned to Hori-san's back as she was sleeping in bed and said, "I've contacted Ishikawa-kun," "You don't have to turn in your assignments for class," "Also, I like you, Hori-san. For quite a while now," "Also, there are a lot of things in the fridge," "Call or email me if anything happens," and left the room with a ridiculous statement. As is typical, Hori-san, who was awake as expected, jumped up after Miyamura left and was confused, saying "Huh?" three times, not understanding the situation. He was so surprised that his fever, which had been 38 degrees until just before, went down.

The Cupid of Love is an Old Man!?

Kyousuke giving advice

Even after Miyamura confessed, there was no clear response (since he confessed while asleep), and the relationship between the two did not progress easily, but the appearance of an old man solves everything at once. The old man who became the Cupid of Love between the two is Hori-san's father, Kyosuke. Although he's an older man, he's still young, in his 30s... He's the type who says what he wants to say out loud, and because of that, he is often treated badly by Hori-san. When Kyosuke asks, "Miyamura-kun, you're my boyfriend, right?", Hori-san replies, "Yes," and the two of them unexpectedly officially start dating (or were dating?). After this, Kyosuke continues to be treated badly and acts quite frivolous, but he is a character who says good things at key moments and shows his fatherly side, so I hope you'll pay attention to him.

To become a man worthy of Hori-san. Miyamura gets a makeover

Miyamura with short hair

This was the story of volume 4 of the original comic, but from volume 5, Miyamura's appearance changes completely. Miyamura successfully started dating Hori-san. The two were spotted coming out of the same house and rumors immediately spread at school, and since Hori-san didn't try to hide it, rumors began to spread that the popular Hori-san and the plain Miyamura were not a good match. So Miyamura made a big decision! He cut off the hair he had been growing to hide his piercing holes, took off his glasses, and went to school as his usual self. He had a beautiful face that was said to be more beautiful than the girls, so he became very popular when he showed his bare face. Miyamura's personality also becomes brighter around this time.

"Horimiya" Synopsis, Spoilers Summary

Horimiya Title

So far, I've introduced the synopsis and spoilers of Horimiya. What did you think? This time, I introduced up to the beginning of volume 5. I don't know if the story will focus on Miyamura's haircut when it is made into an anime, or the story after he cuts his hair, but either way, I'm looking forward to the anime adaptation. By the way, the original work of Horimiya, "Hori-san to Miyamura-kun" (OVA), has already released three volumes, and the content is almost the same as Horimiya, so if you are interested, please check it out.
