"Horimiya" is finally scheduled to air from January 2021. The series began serialization in 2011, and it has been nine years since it was decided to be made into an anime, so for fans, it is literally a "long-awaited anime adaptation." Because of the long serialization period before the anime was released, the original manga had already been published up to volume 15 before the anime was released. Many famous scenes and quotes appeared in these volumes, as well as some funny, memorable remarks. So, this time we will introduce the famous scenes and quotes that have appeared so far! As expected, all 15 volumes will not be animated, so this time we will introduce the best quotes and scenes from volumes 1 to 8!
Comics Volume 1, Episode 1, The memorable word that made Hori-san blush for the first time
First, we will introduce the word that Miyamura made Hori-san blush for the first time with an unconscious and natural remark. As a friend who shares a secret with him, who has a completely different face at school and in private, Miyamura looks her in the eye and says, "I think this time is mine alone." Hori-san's face turns red with this word and hits him with the hand holding the cup, his first act of violence! Furthermore, Miyamura sees Hori-san, who is more domestic than her school self, and tells her with a smile, "This Hori-san is cuter." It's only natural for a high school girl to be embarrassed when a male classmate calls her "cute." Hori-san also sighed and looked embarrassed.
Comics Volume 1, Episode 5, Scene where Yuki shows a lovey-dovey face
Yuki is an elusive character who is also called an "elusive woman". She has a wide range of expressions, and as the story progresses and her relationship with Tohru develops, she shows many embarrassed expressions, but in Episode 5, Yuki's lovey-dovey, slightly sloppy expression appears. The reason is that she has fallen a little in love with Miyamura after seeing his usual appearance. Miyamura didn't realize that Yuki was Hori-san's cousin and used the false name Konoha to hide her true identity, but Yuki would frequently show up at Hori-san's house and hand her sweets. At school, she would make a sloppy face with a "powawan" sound effect and when she opened her mouth it was Konoha-san, Konoha-san. She would writhe in agony, wondering if he had a girlfriend and saying "I can't take it anymore." We'll see more scenes of her getting embarrassed or flustered in the future, but it's rare to see Yuki this lovey-dovey, so this is a must-see for Yuki fans.
Comics Volume 1, Episode 6: The shocking reason why Miyamura can't take a bath
Bath time on a school trip. Everyone heads to the large public bath, but Miyamura, covered in tattoos, absolutely cannot join them. Seeing Miyamura trying to refuse, Tohru comes to his rescue, saying, "Miyamura, it's because you're on your period..." After a moment of silence, when asked if that was the case, Miyamura replied, "Yes," with a troubled look on his face. Normally, this is 100% impossible, but for some reason, Miyamura's feminine appearance led to this excuse being accepted and he used the bath in the room.
Manga Volume 2, Chapter 9, A Casual Scene at the Hori House
An ordinary day at the Hori house. Sota sings his favorite anime song that he recently started, and Miyamura and Hori-san are in the kitchen preparing dinner. At that moment, the phone rings, and Hori-san, who is busy cooking, asks Miyamura to answer the phone. Miyamura answers the phone as requested, but as if he's used to it, he answers the phone with "Hello, hello, this is Hori." Hori is trembling with embarrassment as she cooks in this situation, which is already like newlywed life.
Manga Volume 2, Chapter 10, A word from Hori when she first speaks to Miyamura in a flashback
In Chapter 10, there is a flashback scene before Miyamura became friends with Hori-san and the others, where people around him whisper that Miyamura is gloomy. Miyamura actually heard that voice, and Hori, who had heard it, stood up and went to Miyamura to pair up in class. Hori, who came to Miyamura's seat, said, "Takako and the others said you were gloomy." Miyamura, who heard that, replied with a bowed head and only "I see...", but Hori continued, "I just talked to you, but you're not gloomy at all," with a smile, and the two began their classical music assignment. At this time, they did not know each other's secrets yet, but Miyamura seemed to be a little aware of Hori, even though he thought she was a "weird person."
Miyamura and Tohru's friendship scene, also from episode 10
By this time, Miyamura and Tohru had become quite close and were able to talk normally, but while they were talking on the rooftop, Tohru said, "You're the only one who calls me by my last name with "kimi" attached," so Miyamura mustered up the courage to call her "Tohru" just once. Miyamura said blushingly, "This is the first time I've called a classmate by their first name since becoming a high school student," to which Tohru replied, "You're... weird, after all." For Miyamura, the word "weird" is discriminatory and has been traumatic for him, so he tries to apologize without thinking, but Tohru interrupts him, saying, "You may be weird, but I don't hate you!!" He then tells Miyamura that he's just a bit clumsy, calls him by his given name, "Izumi," and leaves the scene. It was a touching scene, and one would think that the two would become best friends who call each other by their first names... but the next day they were back to being Ishikawa and Miyamura as usual.
Manga Volume 2 Episode 11 Hori-san with a strong possessiveness
Hori-san came to school early in the morning, lured by Souta's early rise. Remi, who had also come too early, appeared before him and sat opposite Hori-san and suddenly started talking about Miyamura. Remi asked Hori-san if she was dating Miyamura, and when Hori-san said that she wasn't, she asked, "Can I have Miyamura-kun?" At first, Hori-san was vague and unclear, but she switched on with the words, "I got Miyamura-kun!" She firmly said no, and then repeatedly said "I won't give it to you." Remi countered that if they weren't dating, then Hori didn't belong to her, but Hori warned her even more strongly, "Miyamura is mine! I won't give him to you! Absolutely not! I won't give him to you!" This was practically a proposal... In the end, it was just a joke by Remi, but Hori seemed quite flustered by how angry she was.
Manga Volume 3, Episode 18: Meeting with Shindo
Episode 18 is entirely about Miyamura's middle school days. It depicts how Miyamura, who was bullied in middle school, met Shindo and how he was saved. Since becoming a high school student, Shindo has taken on a frivolous air and seems like a poor character who is treated badly by Miyamura, but in episode 18, he is super handsome! One particularly cool scene is when Tanihara tells him to stop getting involved with Miyamura and he refuses. Tanihara says he's just upset that Miyamura will take him away, and then leaves with aplomb, saying "It's okay. I'll play with you again." This is the kind of confident statement that only a popular person can make. The sight of him waving his hands as he leaves was the coolest scene ever. It's unthinkable since his high school days... (laughs)
Manga Volume 4, Chapter 21, Cool Shindo
Since entering high school, Shindo has been repeating a year and is in his second week as a sophomore, and he is often subjected to unreasonable violence from Miyamura, but in Chapter 21, there is a scene where Miyamura tells him his troubles and he answers him seriously. Miyamura still thinks that he and Hori-san are not a good match, but this time, Shindo does the opposite of usual and kicks Miyamura in the head. After that, he seriously lectures Hori-san to think about her feelings, and finally cheers her on by saying, "Don't run away!". Miyamura, who realized he had been running away after hearing Shindo's words, thanks Shindo, but unlike the usual way he calls Shindo, this time he thanks him by his first name, saying, "Thank you, Koichi."
Manga Volume 4, Chapter 26: Kyosuke Thinks About His Daughter
Since his first appearance, Kyosuke has been treated roughly by Kyoko, who has resented him for his playful behavior and speech. He basically interacts with Miyamura in a playful manner, and although he likes him, they rarely have serious conversations. However, he is also a character who sometimes asks questions that get to the heart of the matter, and in episode 26, while sleeping next to Miyamura, he jokingly asks, "What do you like about her?" Miyamura responds, "That I don't judge people by their appearances," but Kyosuke doesn't reply, just smiles a little and goes to sleep. He hasn't been home for nearly two years, but even so, this scene conveys the feeling that he is a good father who cares for his daughter Kyoko, even without dialogue.
Volume 5 of the comics, Chapter 29: Miyamura and Honoka's struggle
One day, Miyamura's rival Sawada Honoka suddenly appears out of nowhere. Although she is a female student a year younger than Miyamura, she is very fond of Hori and engages in a fierce battle with Miyamura for her. Miyamura hugs her from behind, and Honoka hugs her from the front...the two physically compete for Hori. Miyamura is also quite serious, even going so far as to say "If I were a guy, I'd headbutt you," and Honoka asks Hori what she likes about Miyamura, and when Hori says "it doesn't come to mind right away," she grins. Miyamura, annoyed by this smile, grabs Hori with all his might and shouts, "It's mine!!" He says the same thing Hori had said to Remi before. After this, at Hori's suggestion, he invites Honoka and Miyamura to his house for a hotpot party, but from that day on, Miyamura starts calling Sawada by his first name, and they often have sibling-like fights.
Volume 5 of the comics, Episode 30: Honoka silently asks for help and Miyamura silently helps her
Episode 30 is entirely about Miyamura and Honoka. For those who like the pairing of the two, the whole thing is a great scene from start to finish (lol). Until now, Honoka was just a junior who got in the way of Miyamura's relationship with Hori-san, but his attitude towards Honoka softens little by little as he learns that she is surprisingly cute and that she lost her older brother. The scene then shifts to after school. When Honoka reluctantly follows Miyamura's request to go home, some high school boys call out to her. Honoka, who is not good with men, hides her face behind Miyamura's back as if asking for help, and Miyamura, without saying anything, glares at the man and succeeds in chasing him away. (Actually, he was just thinking about what to say...) After that, Miyamura lets Honoka go home first and goes home with Hori-san. He says to Honoka, "It's a little better than before," but when Honoka, who was supposed to have gone home first, gets in between them, Miyamura takes back what he said and they start fighting as usual.
Manga Volume 6, Chapter 41, Horimiya Train
This is not a famous quote or scene, but rather a scene I personally like...Kyousuke, who is extremely scared, is going to watch a horror movie, so he first beckons Miyamura and hugs him, then Kyoko beckons him and sits in front of Miyamura, and the three of them start watching the horror movie connected like a train. Hori-san complains but goes along with it. This scene where the three of them are stacked on top of each other watching a horror movie together is somehow carefree and is one of my favorite scenes. (Personally speaking)
Manga Volume 8, Chapter 54: The reason why Mizouchi can't date Hori-san and the abusive scene
In the manga Volume 7, Miyamura suddenly stepped on Hori-san's head, and that's when Hori-san's masochistic side was born. Since that day, Hori-san has often felt joy and desire when Miyamura abuses her or uses violence against her. At that time, Mizouchi, who had feelings for Hori-san, appeared in front of Miyamura. Watching the clumsy Miyamura, he complains, "Why would someone like you...", to which Miyamura responds, "Can you hit Hori-san?" Mizouchi of course replies that he can't do that, but upon hearing this, Miyashita says, "Then you can't hit Hori-san, Mizouchi-kun" (because he would be asked to use violence), and goes over to Hori-san. In front of Mizouchi, he grabs him by the shoulders with all his might and hurls insults at him. He is doing this at Hori-san's request, and Mizouchi sees this and thinks, "He's on a different level," and for some reason begins to think more highly of Miyamura.
Summary of famous scenes from "Horimiya"
What did you think of the famous scenes and quotes from Horimiya that we have introduced so far? The original work has been released up to volume 15 before the broadcast, but it seems that only volumes 5 or 8 will be animated...? Since many stories are concluded in one episode, they may skip over future episodes and make them into an anime, but for now we have introduced up to volume 8, which is the halfway point. Which scene did you like the most?
