As the title of "Horimiya" suggests, this work is about the two main characters, Hori-san and Miyamura-san, but there are many friends around them who are too unique to be just supporting characters. From school friends to parents and siblings, juniors, and classmates who were traumatized by Hori-san... everyone is a good character with their own quirks. So this time, we will introduce not only the two main characters, but also their friends and family!
Hori Kyoko
The heroine of this work, she plays the "Hori" part of "Horimiya". She has brown hair and looks like a gal, but she has excellent grades and sometimes helps her friends with their studies and shows them her notes. She is friendly to all groups, regardless of gender, and has many friends, making her a popular beauty in her class. She is considerate and kind, but she is very bad at using force. When she cleans his ears, she inflicts intense pain on his father, brother, and friends, sending them into the depths of fear, and when she taps them on the shoulders, she inflicts damage that feels like it could shatter a bone. She is not only strong, but also good at fighting, and when she gets angry after someone makes fun of Miyamura, she will attack multiple men, leaving them with eternal trauma. However, deep down she also has a masochistic personality, and is happy when she begs Miyamura to use abusive language or violence on her.
Hori-san at home
When she's at school, she wears perfect makeup and is popular in her class, but when she gets home, she becomes like a mother to her younger brother, taking care of him in place of her parents, who are rarely at home. She usually wears no makeup and plain clothes, so she doesn't look that different in person, but her hair is different from usual, tied up in a ponytail with a hair clip, and even her best friend Yuki doesn't recognize her as Hori-san. As she does housework in place of her parents, her cooking skills are quite good. However, she's not very good at making sweets, so she leaves it all to Miyamura.
Izumi Miyamura
The other main character of this work. He is the "Miya" part of Horimiya. He has long hair, wears glasses, is a quiet, modest, and inconspicuous student. People around him shy away from him because of his nerdy vibe, but he is not a nerd in particular, and it seems that he has become the way he is because of past events. His family runs a cake shop, and when he goes to Hori's house, he often brings cake as a souvenir. (He often brings out cake when someone comes over to his house.) At first glance, he seems smart, but his grades are about average. When Miyamura had long hair, people around him shunned him, but after he cut it short, he became popular with the girls. Since no one had paid any attention to him before, he looks troubled about how to talk to them, but more than that, he is always afraid of the pressure and coldness he feels from Hori-san when he gets close to the girls.
Private Miyamura
At school, Miyamura has an image of a plain otaku, but in private, he is completely different. He originally keeps his hair long to hide the piercings in his ears, and wears winter clothes and tracksuits all year round to hide the tattoos on his body. So when he doesn't need to hide it in private, he wears short sleeves, puts his hair up, and wears earrings, so even if he meets his classmates, they won't recognize him. (Even Horimiya didn't realize it at first glance.) He weighs about 48kg and is skinny, so he's not good at fighting, but his appearance can scare people away... By the way, he has 8 piercings in both ears and 1 in his mouth, for a total of 9 piercings.
Ishikawa Toru
He is one of Horimiya's close friends and the first male friend Miyamura made in high school. She is the one who is always picked on and always ends up suffering badly. She originally liked Hori-san and confessed her feelings to him, but was completely defeated. After that, Hori-san and Miyamura started dating, but she has remained Miyamura's best friend ever since. Although she doesn't seem to realize it, she is quite popular with the girls, and after being rejected by Hori-san, multiple female students have been fond of her. She is one of the few people who knows from the beginning that Miyamura has tattoos and piercings, and they are indispensable to each other, giving each other advice and being supported by each other. By the way, she doesn't seem to be very good at fighting, and once she and Miyamura got into a fistfight, but after the first punch she wasn't able to land a single punch and was completely beaten down.
Yuki Yoshikawa
One of Horimiya's close friends. She is a girl who always wears large-sized uniforms and jerseys at school, and her arms are not sticking out of her sleeves. She is best friends with Hori-san and is always together, but she seems to have many gaps, such as not recognizing Hori-san when she sees him in private. However, she is a very good girl at heart and has a personality that hides her true feelings and supports those around her. Like Hori-san, she has a personality that can get along with anyone, and when Miyamura and Tohru had a fight, she listened to Miyamura when they were alone. He is especially close with Tohru and to those around him, it looks like they are dating, but they don't think that's the way it is... Still, when he finds out that Sakura from the student council has feelings for Tohru, he tries to keep his distance from Tohru out of consideration, but he has mixed feelings.
Shindo Koichi
Miyamura's best friend since middle school. He goes to a higher-ranked high school than Miyamura and his friends, so they go to different schools, but they are still best friends. Hori was the polar opposite of Miyamura, who had been ostracized since middle school, and was popular in class, but he didn't mind and got along well with Miyamura, and was the person who greatly changed Miyamura's life. Since they've been friends since middle school, Miyamura doesn't hold back. In front of Shindo, he shows a side of himself that he doesn't show in high school, such as treating him coldly and hitting him without hesitation. (His high school friends were shocked to see Miyamura being so violent.) Even so, Miyamura was grateful to Shindo, who he said "was the one who gave me the opportunity to change my life" and "was the one who gave me the opportunity to change my middle school days," and he was grateful to Hori for changing him as much as Shindo.
Hori Souta
Hori's younger brother, he is the one who first met Miyamura. Miyamura found him after he fell over and was bleeding from his nose after being startled by a dog, and after Miyamura took him home, Hori and Miyamura met and realized that they were different in private and at school. (At this time, Miyamura immediately recognized Hori-san, but Hori-san had no idea it was Miyamura until he told him) He calls Miyamura "big brother" and loves him, and when Miyamura comes to his house, the three of them often spend time together... However, after the two start dating and go to elementary school, he finds it difficult to be with Hori-san, so he spends more time with his childhood friend, Arina.
Hori Kyosuke
Hori-san's father. He lives separately for work and does not appear in the beginning of the story, but after he returns home, he appears frequently. Despite being the head of the family, he is treated very poorly. When he comes home after a long time, he is asked "How long are you staying?" and at dinner time, Miyamura's dishes are there but his own are not, making it unclear whether he is even treated as family anymore. His daily necessities are gradually disappearing, silently appealing to get out. He seems to like Miyamura, his daughter's boyfriend, very much, as he talks with him whenever he has the chance, wants to take a bath with him, and calls him "son". (As expected, when he sees Miyamura in school mode, he doesn't notice who he is.) His son treats him roughly, but he seems to appreciate the fact that he doesn't put carrots in his curry.
Hori Yuriko
The de facto breadwinner of the Hori family. She always has narrowed eyes and looks like a grown-up version of Hori. When Miyamura first met her, he was surprised and said, "You're so young!" She is in her mid-30s, so she seems to be even more powerful than Hori, as she calmly said that Hori's massage, which has caused trauma to many people, feels good. In the story, she is one of the few characters who calls Miyamura by his first name, "Izumi-kun," and when Miyamura says "Nice to bother you" when he goes to school after staying at her house, she treats him like family, saying "I'll be there when you leave in the morning." Incidentally, she has been dating her husband Kyosuke since high school, and he is one year older than her. Kyosuke says he had Kyoko when he was 18, so it seems she was pregnant when she was 19. Sengoku Kakeru
He is the student council president and a handsome guy who is popular with girls. He has known Hori-san since childhood and is the first victim who has been implanted with many traumas. When he first appeared, he appeared as a character who was overbearing and blamed Hori-san, but after that, he became a weak character who was afraid of Hori-san and Miyamura... Since childhood, Hori-san has been teasing him and in high school, he asked her to call him Sengoku-kun, but he is also a clumsy character who calls him "Kyo-chan" due to his old habit. She is not good at sports and refuses to participate in sports festivals and swimming lessons along with Miyamura. She hates sports so much that she even says that she would rather have her right arm explode than participate in the sports festival (because Miyamura's tattoo would be exposed).
Remi Ayasaki
Sengoku's girlfriend, a stupid character with twin tails. He took over the student council duties from Hori-san, but he was unable to complete the work and Hori-san ended up taking care of it... which caused a bit of a fuss, but he spends time with the Horimiya group afterwards so it's not like they have a particularly bad relationship or a bad personality. His cooking skills are hopeless and during the cooking class he and Sengoku both hold Sakura back. When asked to bring ingredients for curry, he brings tofu, which is way below cooking level. He's not good at cooking but when it comes to love, he's aggressive and pushy! He seems to love Sengoku because he knows his weaknesses but works hard without showing them.
Kono Sakura
A rare member of the student council with common sense. Unlike the other two who are not good at cooking, Remi is good at making sweets and is an indispensable member of the student council because she does her job well. Her weakness is that she lacks self-confidence. In the past, she was treated the same as Miyamura because of her plain appearance, and she has a complex about her appearance. One day, Tohru recognizes her work as "amazing," and she begins to like him. Sakura is shy and hesitates to do anything, but Remi encourages her with her "Remi theory," which is a type of "go-getter."
Iura Shuu
He is a member of the Horimiya group, but he has extremely few scenes and is a poor character who is completely invisible. Although he is a bright and energetic mood maker, unfortunately he has almost no scenes. He appears on the back cover of the original work because he has so few scenes. However, even there, he was criticized for being "annoying Iura", "noisy Iura", and "Iura who has few scenes" (lol). In the end, the sad conclusion was that if he cannot appear in the story, he will have to be squeezed into the blank spaces between frames.
Sawada Honoka
She is a junior who is one year younger than Miyamura and is a hardcore yuri fan. She persistently follows Miyamura and asks Hori, "Are you Miyamura-senpai's girlfriend?" At first, Hori was nervous that she might have feelings for Miyamura, but it turns out that she likes Hori, not Miyamura. From then on, she and Miyamura fight over Hori, and they fight like brothers all the time. The two are at odds with each other, but they don't know it, but they actually live next door to each other. When Honoka forgot her keys, Miyamura invited her over to his house and treated her to cake, so it seems they don't really hate each other. She lost her brother about a year ago, and is not good with men, so when a boy gets into her way, she silently asks Miyamura for help. Although she is not good with men, Miyamura, who reminds her of her brother, is an exception and she seems to be able to interact with him normally.
Summary of Horimiya Character Introduction
So far, I have introduced the characters that appear in Horimiya. What do you think? Of course, the main characters Hori and Miyamura are very charming, but personally, I am more interested in their friends. I especially like Shindo and Yuki, so I'd love to see those episodes animated... and I'm looking forward to seeing the hero and his friends in action in the anime!
