The Holy Grail War is a ritual involving the Holy Grail, an all-powerful vessel said to grant any wish. Seven magicians (Masters) chosen by the Holy Grail summon seven familiars (Servants) and fight to the death over the Holy Grail to fulfill their wishes. Shirou Emiya, a half-baked magician, is chosen by chance as the seventh Master, ushering in the Fifth Holy Grail War.

Overview
The protagonist of "Fate/stay night." He is a second-year student in Class C at Homurahara Academy.
He is an apprentice magician (or, more accurately, a wizard). Influenced by his adoptive father, he aspires to become a "hero of justice." He becomes embroiled in the Holy Grail War, accidentally summons Saber, and becomes her Master. He then fights to stop the conflict.
Biography
A survivor of the Great Fuyuki Fire that occurred 10 years ago.
Left all alone, Shirou was adopted by the man who saved him, Emiya Kiritsugu, and changed his surname to Emiya.
Though Kiritsugu was often away from home, Shirou adored him and even begged him, a magician, to teach him magic. He aspired to become like Kiritsugu. However, five years later, Kiritsugu passed away due to illness.
Before he died, Shirou muttered, "I wanted to be a hero of justice," and he decided to follow in his footsteps and become a "hero of justice." From then on, he works part-time to earn a living while training every day with the goal of becoming a "hero of justice."
Five years later, Shirou, now a second-year student at Homurahara Academy, stays behind at school to tidy up, but on his way home, he witnesses Lancer and Archer fighting in the schoolyard at night. Sensing something is wrong and that he is about to be killed, he runs away, but there is no way he can escape; the blue man catches up to him and stabs him in the heart, suffering a fatal wound that is nearly instantaneous, causing him to lose consciousness and die.
However, Archer's master, Tohsaka Rin, repairs his damaged heart, reviving him and, after regaining consciousness, he manages to return home.
There, the blue man, sensing Shirou's survival, attacks him again, but he accidentally summons the Servant "Saber" in the storehouse he takes refuge in, and manages to survive. After hearing about the Holy Grail War from Rin and Kirei Kotomine, he throws himself into a battle to the death between mages in order to put an end to the conflict.
Character Profile
Fundamentally simple and honest. While his stubborn personality and baby face often lead people to believe he's a character, his expression is generally calm. This characteristic is difficult to see in the story, which is told from Shirou's perspective, but comparing Shirou's and Rin's perspectives in the prologue makes this clear.
As he strives to be a "hero of justice," he tries to help people whenever he can, and generally never turns down a request (not that he can't say no; although he does say, "I won't do anything I can't do"). He travels to various locations within the academy to respond to various requests, repairing machines and taking on other requests, earning him nicknames like "Homurahara's Brownie" and "Stupid Spanner."
Rin has pointed out on several occasions that "magicians operate on an equal exchange," but after the disaster, he lost the ability to "take himself into account," and for him, "accepting requests" is tantamount to payment itself.
He is a character who easily gets angry when his heartstrings are touched, but as mentioned above, he is indifferent to "the consequences for himself," so his attitude towards Matou Shinji's selfishness is strangely tolerant. Because he is a person who "thinks carefully before taking himself into account," he "thinks carefully before taking actions that will leave the player dumbfounded," making him a somewhat strange protagonist.
Abilities
He trains his body every day, but this is to ensure he's "able to move in times of emergency."
It's not intended for combat training, and his family's dojo hasn't been used as a kendo hall for a long time. When it comes to pure, non-magical fighting, he leaves each match to experts. However, he is said to be the strongest in the school if it were a "fight to see who can give up first" (after all, the magic he can use is often used in ways that at first glance seem impractical (such as "Structural Analysis", which is full of waste as it grasps the whole picture from scratch when it should only grasp the main points, and "Projection", which is inefficient to begin with and when Shirou uses it, the duplicated object is only an appearance and is empty inside), and this is one of the reasons why Kiritsugu misjudged his instructions. This is due to Shirou's specialization as a magician, which is a type that specializes in one point - the Great Magic - Unique Barrier, which gives shape to one's own imaginary world and erodes reality. Shirou's mental world is a "hill of swords that analyzes, replicates, and stores any sword it sees." His special abilities, such as his ability to project objects that never disappear and his ability to grasp structures, are the result of his body's specialized ability to manipulate unique barriers and the properties of his mental world, which manifest as glimpses of unique barriers.
This allows him to achieve extraordinary results in certain situations (in the case of swords, he can even replicate high-level magical equipment such as Noble Phantasms).

Overview
A Saber servant summoned by Shirou Emiya during the Fifth Holy Grail War.
A beautiful blonde-haired, blue-eyed swordswoman who fights bravely in a blue dress and silver-white armor.
"Fate/stay" She is one of the main heroines in "Fate/stay night" and is a representative face of the Fate series.
Throughout the series, simply referring to her as "Saber" refers to her.
During the Fourth Holy Grail War (Fate/Zero), she was summoned by Emiya Kiritsugu.
Kiritsugu's victory-first approach to battle and Saber's pride as a knight were incompatible, resulting in their antagonism.
During the Fifth Holy Grail War, she was summoned by Shirou using the sheath of the holy sword inside his body as a catalyst.
She swore an oath of swordsmanship to Shirou and fought alongside him in the Holy Grail War.
Character Profile
Diligent, polite, and competitive. She's what you'd call a class president, though to put it bluntly, she could be stubborn.
She also has a girlish side, favoring cute things (like stuffed animals).
Despite her appearance, she's quite a glutton. She says it's to "make up for a lack of magical power," but her obsession with food clearly suggests more. This earned her the nickname "The Hungry King."
Normally calm, but easily heated, she doesn't hold back when it comes to competition (even over trivial matters). Her natural intuition makes her particularly adept at gambling.
Also, perhaps due to her earnest and honest personality, she can sometimes be difficult to read the situation.
She speaks her mind, often unintentionally hurting her opponents.
Although it may not seem so due to the effects of her Noble Phantasm, her aging is halted, making her the heroine with the most life experience. Including her actual age, those who lived out their natural lifespans are considered long-lived, a rare trait for a Heroic Spirit.
True Name
Her real name is Artoria Pendragon. She is the legendary monarch of Britain, King Arthur himself.
At the age of 15, she drew the Sword of Selection and became an immortal king.
As king, she behaved as the "perfect king" her knights desired, but her rationalistic decisions (such as draining an entire village to procure supplies and prepare for war) clashed with the knights' idealistic chivalry, and she eventually became isolated within the Round Table.
She was so focused on her role as the "perfect king" that she was unable to sense the suffering of her subordinates or the limitations of her people, and her subordinates blindly followed her without properly understanding her. She worshipped the Knights of the Round Table. As a result, the Knights of the Round Table fell victim to misunderstandings, love, and hate, and fell apart, rapidly sending Britain on the path to ruin.
Wish Entrusted to the Holy Grail
Her wish for the Holy Grail is "a second chance at the selection."
She dedicated her all to her country, but her hopes were in vain as it perished. She has no regrets about her choice, and for this reason, she believes that "if someone else had become king, perhaps the country could have been saved," and makes a contract with the "world" to obtain the Holy Grail.
Abilities
Though she appears delicate, she possesses the strength to fight against a grown man. This is due to her "Magic Emission" skill. While she possesses the same physical strength as an average girl, she gains this power through the support of her own immense magical energy. The armor she wears in battle is also woven with magical energy.
She is blessed by the spirit of the lake, allowing her to stand and walk on the water's surface. Because of this, she has never swam in her life, and even on the battlefield, she literally runs across the surface of lakes and rivers. She even claims to be able to run through rough waves. As a result, she has no swimming experience and is practically a hammer. However, she has excellent athletic ability, so with proper training, she can swim normally.
Noble Phantasm: Wind King's Barrier (Invisible Air)
A wind sheath encases Saber's sword.
To be precise, it is a type of magecraft in which multiple layers of air change the refractive index, rendering the object it encases transparent and turning it into an invisible sword. Naturally, this makes it impossible for the opponent to gauge the distance, making it particularly effective against melee-type Servants.
Noble Phantasm: Sword of Promised Victory (Excalibur)
Saber's sword and her signature Noble Phantasm.
A divinely crafted weapon, the Last Phantasm, crystallized and refined within the planet from the desires of people to be as they wish them to be. It is the ultimate holy sword, standing at the pinnacle of all holy swords.
A single strike turns into a golden torrent, obliterating everything in its path.
As an anti-fortress Noble Phantasm, its activation can be seen from several kilometers away when fired with full force, instantly obliterating even the most powerful structures or hordes of enemies.
Even when reduced in power, its power is so great that it can instantly kill a Servant.

Overview
One of the heroines appearing in "Fate/stay night."
A junior girl who admires Emiya Shirou. She is also the younger sister of his friend, Matou Shinji.
She has straight purple hair and a slender build, but hidden large breasts (according to Taiga Fujimura, they are E-cups). She's a master of housework and has a gentle and devoted personality.
Character Profile
She's a gentle, brave, and devoted girl with a somewhat fragile air about her. While generally calm, she also has a devilish side, gently teasing Shirou, and a stubborn side that won't back down once she's made up her mind.
She finds the simple daily life at the Emiya residence an irreplaceable happiness.
To Shirou, she's the "symbol of everyday life"—his friend's younger sister, his junior, and his family.
She visits the Emiya residence to help with the housework, as Shirou has quit the archery club for certain reasons. At first, Shirou refuses. However, she was stubborn and finally gave in, giving in to her stubbornness.
She wasn't originally good at housework or cooking, but she improved after Shirou started teaching her. At first, she couldn't even make rice balls, but now she's improved enough to be said to be better at Western cuisine than Shirou.
She's a big eater among the women, though not as much as Saber. She's gaining weight, but her waist is getting thinner. However, she's not very conscious of it herself, and seems to agonize over it every time she steps on the scale.
Biography
Rin Tohsaka's younger sister. Born as the second daughter of the Tohsaka family, she was adopted into the Matou family because a second child in a magician's family was frowned upon due to a potential succession dispute. This was proof of the continuing alliance between the Tohsaka and Matou families, and for the Matou family, the magician line was on the verge of extinction due to the lack of a successor born with magical circuits, so they sought a woman capable of giving birth to a child with magical talent (known by Matou Zouken as a "placenta").
After being adopted, she had no place in the Matou family and grew up isolated, never coming into contact with anyone from the Tohsaka family. For many years, she was subjected to repeated abuse by insects in order to force herself to adapt to Matou magic, which did not suit her body. As a result, her physical condition has changed so much that her hair and eye color, which were originally the same as Rin's, have completely changed.
Abilities
Strongly descended from the Tohsaka magician family, she possesses an extremely high level of magical ability. Born with an extremely rare attribute known as "imaginary element, imaginary numbers," she would have been preserved in formaldehyde without the protection of her magical family.
She has no magical means of attack other than exposing her innermost self (id) and turning her darkest, negative side into a blade.
When connected to the tainted Holy Grail, her personality also changes completely. She uses a "shadow" created by combining Sakura's own "imaginary numbers" and Matou's "absorption" to perform magic that dissolves and absorbs all living things.
Fate/stay Night Stay Night: A Summary of the Main Characters (Part 1)
The consensus of Kinoko Nasu, Director Yamaguchi, and series writer is that the series will focus on the Fate (Saber) route, incorporating elements from other routes (to highlight characters who don't appear in the Saber route). According to Nasu, the theme is "boy meets girl" (a.k.a. a romantic comedy).
