Unlike late-night anime that end in around 12 episodes, Eureka Seven is a feature-length anime that aired on Sunday mornings, totaling 50 episodes. As such, it features a fairly large number of characters. So today we'll take a look at the characters that appear, digging a little deeper and introducing what kind of characters they are!

Renton's Life Has Been Hard

Our protagonist, Renton, has been living a hard life ever since he was a child! His mother died shortly after Renton was born, and his heroic father was sacrificed to save humanity from the Summer of Love. His beloved older sister, whom he loved like a mother, suddenly disappeared... After that, he ended up living with his grandfather. He was never particularly talented, and the title "son of a hero" was a constant source of worry for Renton.

Who is Renton's mother?

While his father and sister are introduced in the anime, his mother is only briefly mentioned as having died shortly after his birth, and there's no mention of her appearance at all. Renton's future hero husband, his genius daughter, and his chosen Nirvash. With this family, the mother must have been no ordinary person. In the anime, Diane was the mother, but she may appear in the future.

Eureka's True Identity: A Slightly Horror?

The characters' appearances change with each episode, with hairstyles and growth, but Eureka is one of the most transformative characters. When she first appears, she's a cool, beautiful girl, but by the middle of the series, her hair gets shorter and she becomes more boyish. Then, towards the end of the film, her hair grows back, making her look more mature... but the moment her true face is fully revealed, it's a bit scary.

Taruho is the helmsman of the Gekko and Holland's girlfriend. Though they're constantly fighting, they make a great couple. However, Taruho's ex-boyfriend is a very unexpected person! That person was Dewey, Holland's older brother and now his greatest enemy. He was so talented that he skipped grades and became the youngest commander, so perhaps he caught the eye of his superiors.

Moondoggy is a member of the Gekko-state, but he has no special skills and only does odd jobs on the Gekko-go. He's just a boy who admires Holland. Why did Holland recruit such a boy as a member of the Gekko-state? From the middle of the story onwards, he plays an active role as a helmsman, but Holland seems to have forgotten that he even had a boating license... He's a mysterious boy who speaks in Akita dialect.

Anemone is an Extraordinary Girl

Anemone is forced to fight by injecting drugs into her neck before every battle, and she suffers from headaches that require a lethal dose of painkillers for normal humans. While this may seem like a complete failure, it's actually a case of exceptional success. As proof of this, a certain facility was selecting children to replace Anemone, but when they were given the same drug, all of them burst into tears and died.

The Mystery of Gonzi, Who Suddenly Appears Everywhere

Gonzi is an elusive old man who appears unexpectedly aboard the Gekko, asking, "Would you like some tea?" He seemed to enjoy life on the Gekko, sometimes joining the other members in exercises and making tea for the children. In the final episode, he thanked Holland and the others, saying, "It was fun," and then disappeared right in front of them, revealing his true identity as a Coralian.

Holland and Charles' Relationship

The two fought a life-or-death battle aboard the Gekko. They were originally rivals as SOF unit commanders. It seems that Holland had a fight with Charles when he took Eureka and left the military, but Charles was also living a leisurely life with Ray after that, so why did they have to kill each other? It seems that male pride and Ray were involved.

The cause of infertility? Ray's resentment towards Eureka

Ray is usually very kind and has a typical loving marriage with Charles, but when it comes to Eureka, his expression changes completely. He shows a look of hatred. The reason for this is his own infertility. Ray believes that his infertility is caused by the Summer of Love, and he hates Eureka for causing it. However, it's unclear whether this is conclusive evidence, and in the Hi-Evolution series, the cause was an injury.

Each member of Eureka Seven has their own unique past. The trilogy of films will likely delve even deeper into their pasts, so I'm excited to see even more new discoveries to come. Please check out the anime and give it some thought!
