In many anime, there are heroines who play important roles outside of the story or the main character. Mouri Ran has been a heroine since the start of Detective Conan's broadcast. Another heroine who appeared midway through the broadcast and is just as popular as Ran is Haibara Ai. This time, we'll introduce Haibara Ai, who is different from Ran, but has the same circumstances as Conan and exudes a mysterious aura!
Characteristic #1: Originally an adult woman, just like Shinichi

Some who started watching the anime midway through may only know Ai Haibara as an elementary school student, but her real name is Shiho Miyano, and she is 18 years old, a little older than Shinichi. He was previously involved in the development of APTX 4869 for the Black Organization, but was imprisoned in a gas chamber after halting his research following a certain incident.
After shrinking, she lives in the professor's house

When Haibara first appeared, she was quite abrasive, and when she revealed her true identity to Conan, she hinted at murdering the professor, causing Conan to panic. However, the doctor was not actually murdered; instead, he found Haibara collapsed on the road on a rainy day and decided to hide her in his house. Incidentally, the name "Haibara Ai" was also a pseudonym that the doctor and he came up with together.
Characteristic #2: The reason she betrayed the Black Organization was to murder her sister

Haibara's parents died in an accident some time ago, leaving her and her beloved sister as her only family. All of her family members except for herself are involved with the Black Organization, and her older sister Akemi decides to rob a cash transport truck on the condition that she and her younger sister leave the Black Organization. However, when she refuses to tell Gin and his friends where the stolen money is, she is killed by Gin.

Conan and Akemi's relationship is depicted in episode 128. Akemi is murdered by Gin, but she has a conversation with Conan just before her death, during which she entrusts him with the key to a coin locker containing 1 billion yen. Perhaps because he thought Akemi's life was beyond saving, Conan revealed that he was Kudo Shinichi. As a result, he is one of the few people in the story who knows Akemi's true identity from Conan himself.
Characteristic #3: Developing an antidote for APOTOXIN 4869
Source: Detective Conan © Gosho Aoyama / Shogakukan, Yomiuri TV, TMS
Haibara is currently living with the professor while developing an antidote for APOTOXIN 4869. Throughout the story, Conan is occasionally given a prototype antidote, which briefly restores him to his original form. However, it is currently incomplete and has not yet attained the sensitivity of the antidote.
Is Conan being used as a guinea pig to test the antidote's side effects?

Although several antidote prototypes have been made, Conan always takes the medicine, and Haibara rarely ingests it herself. This is because she doesn't know what side effects may occur... and when she hands over the prototype, she even says, "It might kill you." In fact, when describing the pain of transforming from an adult to a child, Shinichi says, "It feels like all the bones in my body are melting," showing just how severe the side effects are.
Characteristic #4: A Big Fan of Higo Ryusuke

Haibara is pale-skinned and devoted to research in the Black Organization, but surprisingly, she has a huge crush on the soccer player Higo. However, she's only interested in Higo, and is a complete novice when it comes to soccer. When news of Higo and Okino Yoko's romance broke, he was uncharacteristically shocked and depressed, and subsequently asked Kogoro to investigate the couple's behavior.
After solving the case, her feelings for Higo grow even stronger.

While conducting a background check, Haibara and her team come across a crime and successfully solve it. Higo then pats Haibara on the head and expresses his gratitude. Haibara must have been very happy, as she later put on a uniform with the aim of becoming a soccer player, and with a ball in hand, ran to the park with the Detective Boys. By the way, although she is still motivated, her skills seem to be the same as ever.
Characteristic #5: Even in Child Form, She Feels Embarrassed

Conan doesn't react at all to seeing Haibara naked, partly because she's in child form, but she becomes so embarrassed that her face turns red. When the threads on his clothes came undone and he was left with only his shirt and pants in the truck, he said firmly, "If you open it now, I won't forgive you."
Characteristic #6: When disguised, he looks like Conan
Source: Detective Conan © Gosho Aoyama / Shogakukan, Yomiuri TV, TMS
While Conan was temporarily restored to his original form with the antidote, Haibara lived as Conan in his place. Although about half of his face is hidden by a mask, at first glance he looks just like Conan! His eyes seem a little sharper, and he has the same hairstyle, so even Ran, who lives with him, doesn't realize who he is.
Haibara's tone of voice when talking to Shinichi is strange

While living as Conan, he can play the role of Conan without any problems, but when he's talking alone with Shinichi, who knows his true identity, he starts speaking in his normal manner. Conan's face and voice speaks in a feminine manner...even Shinichi finds it disgusting and asks him to stop, but Haibara seems to like it and doesn't change her tone.
Characteristic #7: Relationship with the Detective Boys

Haibara is close with Ayumi, another female member of the Detective Boys, and Haibara seems to like her for her honest and earnest personality. Of course, she feels more like a younger sister than a friend, and Ayumi sometimes brings up romantic topics about Conan. He even told Conan that he would never forgive him if he did anything to make Ayumi cry.
Mitsuhiko and Genta's Relationship

Although he only works with these two as part of the Detective Club, in the movie, they save Haibara's life, and from that point on, Mitsuhiko begins to develop feelings for her. When Genta also falls and gets a nosebleed, Haibara treats him, but when she gets too close to him, he blushes uncharacteristically. Incidentally, Genta also has a sad past where he was ignored by Haibara the first time they met.
Characteristic #8: Sometimes willing to sacrifice herself to solve problems

Haibara is willing to sacrifice herself to help children. In the movie, she gets caught up in an incident and even attempts to sacrifice herself to increase the success rate of the operation, even though there was still a chance that everyone could be saved. She also has been seen to easily give up on life on several occasions, showing signs of taking her own life lightly.
Characteristic #9: Strong Fear of the Black Organization
Source: Detective Conan © Gosho Aoyama / Shogakukan, Yomiuri TV, TMS
Unlike Conan, who immediately seeks to get involved in any incidents or cars related to the Black Organization, Haibara tries to avoid them as much as possible. In particular, when he spots a car or something, his face changes color and he becomes completely trembling...and he often raises his voice to try to stop Conan who is actively trying to get involved.
But he's a candidate to be Rum in the Black Organization? He is friendly towards Rumi Wakasa.

Proud assistant teacher of Class 1-B, Professor Wakasa, is a clumsy teacher. His appearances in the anime have recently increased dramatically. However, his behavior, speech, and the suspicion of a prosthetic eye in his right eye have led Conan to suspect he might be Rum, a member of the Black Organization. In response, Haibara openly declares that she likes Wakasa-sensei, and when Conan suspects he might be part of the Black Organization, she warns him not to say bad things about him.
Characteristic #10: Her ambivalent attitude toward Ran
Source: Detective Conan © Gosho Aoyama / Shogakukan, Yomiuri TV, TMS
As an elementary school student, Haibara gets along fairly well with her peers, but she barely speaks to Ran and is somewhat cold towards her. Ran senses this, and when she sees Haibara quickly look away whenever they make eye contact, she asks, "Does he hate me?" Incidentally, Haibara once looked at Ran's buttocks and said to Conan, "That's good. It's easy to give birth to."
The Incident That Changed His Relationship with Ran

Until then, Haibara had been cold towards Ran, but their relationship took a turn after a murder incident. Ran persuades the culprit by using the word "courage," and when Haibara sees this, she visits her on the beach after the incident and asks for a handshake, saying with a smile, "I'm Haibara Ai. Nice to meet you." It seems that from the time they were children, Haibara has come to recognize Ran as "a good person with a strong sense of justice."
