People who have died for various reasons visit the Death Office, which is not a city hall, but a place where various dead people visit to process their deaths. Each and every dead person has a story, some of which are tear-jerking, others that are disgusting. We would like to introduce the stories of such various customers in a digest in two parts, the first and second parts!

Customer 1: Shikano Taichi Cause of death: suicide due to cruel bullying

Shikano Taichi

Shikano Taichi, a first-year junior high school student, was cruelly bullied by his classmates. The torture was extremely cruel: he was forced to eat insects, had boiling water poured over him, had things thrown at him, and even had the foreskin of his penis cut with scissors in the toilet. Taichi had a stepfather when his parents remarried, but his stepfather showed no interest in him, which led to Taichi jumping off a high place and attempting suicide. However, at the Death Office, Taichi met Ushio, a classmate who had bullied him. Ushio had been killed by Taichi's stepfather.

Customer 2: Ushio Takashi Cause of death: Hit by a car in retaliation against Taichi's stepfather

Ushio Takashi

Ushio is the main culprit behind the cruel bullying of Taichi. When Taichi's stepfather finds out that Taichi was being bullied, he runs Ushio over with his car in retaliation. However, Ushio does not regret what he did, and instead lashes out at Taichi at the Death Office, believing he will go to heaven, but he meets the conditions for going to hell and is sent to hell. Ushio is the only one in the story who is explicitly stated to be going to hell.

Customer 3: Ryoko Uesugi Cause of death: Man-made death while protecting the president of a welding factory

Ryoko Uesugi

Ryoko was unable to find employment due to her criminal record, and was at a loss when she met the president of a welding factory, who picked her up and helped her get a job. The conditions at the workplace were not exactly good, but Ryoko felt indebted to the president and worked as hard as she could. One day, a metal plate fell on the president's head. Ryoko shielded him, pushed him away, and died instead. However, it was not an accident, but rather an employee who was working under conditions similar to those of a black company plotting to kill the president.

Customer 4: Onoda Rin - Cause of death: Abuse and abandonment

Onoda Rin

Rin was an innocent elementary school student, but her mother neglected her and abused and abandoned her. However, Rin never resented her mother. One day, she was locked out on the balcony in the cold and froze to death. The teacher who suspected abuse cried for not being able to save Rin, but her mother showed no remorse. However, Rin's mother was arrested by the police after a neighbor testified about the abuse.

Customer 5: Egashira Nobuyuki Cause of Death: Death Penalty for Mass Murder

Egashira Nobuyuki

Egashira is an extremely selfish young man who is unreasonable and cannot get along with anyone. He decided to commit the crime because he thought that if he was sentenced to death, he would be guaranteed a life without thinking about anything. He targeted children with a bright future, and ran into a group of children walking to school, resulting in a large number of casualties, which led to his death penalty. When he came to the Death Office, Egashira was not only not remorseful, but even thought of what he had done as a heroic tale, and refused to work at the Death Office. He will fall into the underworld and wander forever.

Customer 6: Hanawa Tamotsu Cause of death: Fall from a high place

Hanawa Tamotsu

Hanawa has been living his life as a manga artist but has not been able to produce a hit work, and his editor suggests that he become the illustrator for a popular novelist's original work. After much deliberation, Hanawa accepts the request, and the work becomes popular due to his high drawing skills and interesting story. However, Hanawa feels a certain sense of defeat. One day, while riding his motorcycle, Hanawa loses most of his eyesight in an accident. Hanawa is unable to write manga, and although he is troubled, he is trying to restart as an original story writer. However, just then, he fell to his death during rehabilitation. The public thought that Hanawa had committed suicide, but Togawa Alan, who wrote the original manga and had spoken to him through the work, was convinced that it had not been suicide.

Customer 7: Erikawa - Heart attack, death alone

Erikawa had a difficult personality and did not interact much with others, but after his sociable wife passed away, he tried to actively interact with others. Both the husband and wife were conscious of the saying, "Women are maggots, widows are flowers." Erikawa actively interacted with his neighbors, so he thought that maggots would not infest his corpse, but in reality, he was disliked by his neighbors due to his difficult personality, and maggots ended up infesting his corpse.

Customer 8 Michi - Dies of old age, surrounded by her family

Michi

Michi is the niece of Ishima, an employee of the Death Office, who was involved in the case in which he was sentenced to death. Michi's parents have already passed away, and Ishima, who was a carpenter, cherished his niece Michi as if she were family. However, one day, Michi was nearly raped, and Ishima brutally murdered the two brothers who were responsible. Ishima concealed the fact that Michi had been raped, so his death sentence was confirmed. Although Michi was later plagued by the trauma of the rape, she got married and lived a happy life, and died of natural causes. When Michi came to the Death Office, she had dementia, but she remembered Ishima.

Customer 9: Date Natsuka, dies in a traffic accident while on a date

Date Natsuka

Natsuka was hit by a car and died while on a date with a childhood friend she had a crush on. However, the date was the first and last date, and she asked the boy who had a girlfriend to make a final memory because the weather was set. She laments that the image of her mangled body from the traffic accident will remain in his memory forever. However, that image reminds the employee Shimura of a bitter past.

Customer 10: Takayoshi Sao, dies of illness

Takayoshi Sao

Takaseki and Sao, who were active as the comedy duo "Kanisubekaraku", win the right to compete in the finals of a comedy award race. However, Sao suffered from a hereditary illness. On the day of the final, Takaseki, who had arrived at the venue, became anxious when Sao did not show up and could not be contacted, but Sao had concealed his illness. Takaseki continued to wait, and Sao appeared in front of him, emaciated and in a wheelchair. Although he managed to complete the skit he was able to perform from his wheelchair, he was defeated. Takaseki then found out about the illness he had been hiding. Sao later died of the illness, but his life as a comedian until the end has become a legend that remains in everyone's hearts.

Customer 11: Sudo Maho, falls down the stairs while walking and using her smartphone

Maho, a high school girl, is addicted to her smartphone and cannot let go of it for even a moment. She is always worried about someone's messages. However, when a friend stops replying to Maho and Maho is worried about the friend's replies and does not look ahead, another friend says something to surprise Maho, who is always looking at her smartphone, which causes her to fall down the stairs and die. Freed from SNS, Maho feels something strange about her own death at the Death Office.

Customer 12 Miki Michiru - Death by Acute Alcohol Poisoning

Miki Michiru

Michiru celebrates her 20th birthday with a drinking party held by her club and experiences alcohol for the first time. However, she suddenly dies from acute alcohol poisoning. After coming to the Death Office, she insists that it was murder because she was forced to drink alcohol and died, and refuses to rest in peace. During the 49 days of the procedure, she interacts with the staff and learns about their pasts.

Customer 13 Sugi dies of cancer

Sugi

Sugi is a prison officer at a detention center, and met Shimura when he was alive. He has a kind personality and is considerate of death row inmates, and he was considerate to Numajiri, a death row inmate awaiting execution, by offering him a job as a braille translator. However, he was mentally exhausted after being put in charge of Numajiri's execution, and Ichimura told him he was not suited to be a prison officer, so he retired a year later.

Customer 14: Hondou Chihiro dies in a traffic accident due to drug-induced hallucinations

Hondou Chihiro

Chihiro was an ordinary housewife, but she was dissatisfied with her dull days, and after being invited to a party by a junior colleague and recommended drugs, she became addicted to drugs and sex. After becoming addicted to drugs, she heard the news that her junior colleague had been arrested in the car, and became confused when she hallucinated that her child was a police officer, then got into an accident and died. Her child was safe.

Customer 15: Sakaura Masumi, stabbed to death by resentment

Sakaura was a young man who inherited a set meal restaurant from his father and was about to have a child. However, one day, he was suddenly stabbed to death in front of his family and customers. The culprit was a former employee who had been seen killing his father and stealing the sales money, and Sakaura testified about it in court, which resulted in him being sentenced to prison. It is likely that resentment was the motive. However, since he had completed his sentence three years early, he may have been a model prisoner, and there was room for doubt about his motive for killing Sakaura. From the perspective of motive, it is possible that the father's murderer was someone else.

Customer 16: Yoshiaki Ikuno, Died of Illness

Ikuno is a live streamer who streams on video sites under the handle name "Hep Hep." He did a project where he would ride his bike anywhere he wanted, and although he didn't have many viewers at first, he gradually gained popularity. He was somewhat addicted, and even after he became ill, he continued to stream his battle with the disease. He continued to stream until the end of his life, and people from all over the country who saw him came to visit him. However, he eventually went by his real name, Yoshiaki, and after his death, another streamer showed up at his funeral, and there were various problems unique to modern times.

Customer 17: Tsugawa Yuki, drowning

Yuki was a boy who admired heroes. He died at the age of 7. He is a big fan of the special effects movie Kamen Yander, and was told by the actor who played the hero that to become a hero, he must not overlook people in trouble, so even as a child, he was busy helping people. One day, while trying to save a kitten stranded in a river, he slipped and drowned. The kitten was saved.

Customer 18 Sculpture Drowning

A homeless man who is close to turning 60 and makes a living by working as a day laborer cleaning. His real name has not been revealed, and he is called Sculpture because he carves Jizo statues as a hobby. Homeless people face harsh criticism from society, and there is no way they can find decent employment. He used to work for a company, where he was in charge of human resources and made the decision to lay off many employees. However, he also lost his job in the restructuring, and his family left him, leaving him homeless. Feeling atonement for the employees he had laid off, he continued to carve Jizo statues, but was swept away by a typhoon that caused the river to flood and he drowned. However, the Jizo he created was preserved as art, and became a new tourist attraction that many people could see.

Customer 29 Sayo Yamanaka Murdered by Beheading

Sayo Yamanaka

Sayo, a beautiful and friendly office lady, is sexually harassed by a superior at a client company, but she can't say anything back, and the people around her tolerate it to a certain extent, so she is dissatisfied with the current situation. However, Sayo also has a reliable friend named Seii, who is not the type to change her expression much, but is honest and can speak her mind to anyone. However, Sayo suspects that Seii is a homosexual based on her behavior towards her. Then, Sayo is called to Seii's room and is murdered by her. Her motive was "I wanted to see how bones bend." She was not homosexual at all, she was a psychopath who even killed her friends out of curiosity.

Customer 20: Hanahira Taeko, Died of Heart Disease

Taeko was a full-time housewife. She lived happily with her husband and son, but one day her husband disappeared. Later, his body was found brutally murdered, and her life changed completely. Her husband had been having an affair and was murdered by the woman he had been having an affair with. Despite being the victim, she is pursued by the media every day, written about in weekly magazines, and lives a life where her privacy is not protected. The woman she had an affair with was Nishikawa, who works at the Death Office. After Nishikawa's execution, she finally has the weight on her shoulders and her son gets married. She is surrounded by her family and is looked after, but she is shaken when she sees Nishikawa at the Death Office.
