Lelouch began his rebellion to take revenge on Britannia and his father who abandoned him. But how did it all end? The story gets so complicated that some people may be wondering what it all means. In this article, I'd like to summarise what Zero Requiem, the ending of Code Geass, is all about.
What is the purpose of Zero Requiem?
Lelouch buries Charles in the C-verse and becomes the emperor who unites the entire world. As emperor, Lelouch wields power both at home and abroad, ruling as a dictator. This ultimately earned him hatred from all over the world. However, that was precisely Lelouch's goal. Lelouch's goal was to become absolute evil so that all of the people's hatred would be directed towards him, and then have Zero, a champion of justice, assassinate this evil Emperor in public, thereby breaking the cycle of hatred among the people.
Zero Requiem Execution
Now that Lelouch has become emperor, Zero appears during a parade marking the public execution of his sister and members of the Black Knights. You might wonder why Zero would appear, considering that his true identity is supposed to be Lelouch. But in fact, this Zero's true identity is Suzaku. Then, disguised as Zero, Suzaku stabs Lelouch to death with his sword. With this, the evil Emperor Lelouch disappears, the wars that had existed up until now come to an end, and the world is reset. With his death, he put an end to the conflicts in the world.
Who knows the truth about Zero Requiem?
It is believed that Lelouch, Suzaku, C.C., Jeremiah, Lloyd, Cecil, Nina, and Sakuya knew about this plan. By the time the operation was carried out, Kallen, Nunnally, Todo, and Seishun also appear to have understood the full scope of the plan.
What happened to Lelouch and Suzaku after Zero Requiem?
Although childhood friends, the two have fought as Zero and honorary Britannians. Suzaku had a tendency to rush to his death as atonement for his past sins, but he chose to kill Lelouch and reset the world rather than die himself. And Lelouch decided to atone for what he had done with his death. In the end, they forgave each other, and it seems like they acted for each other's sake as truly important friends.
Zero Requiem Summary
Up until now, these two characters have been friends and enemies. In the end, they cooperated and resolved their differences. The story of Code Geass has gotten a little more complicated since R2, but this final ending was truly shocking. Lelouch is a man who has changed the world in many ways. I think this ending shows Lelouch's atonement for everything, including the world, the people he used Geass on, Euphie, who sadly died because of him, and the misunderstandings he had with his mother and sister, as well as his regret that he could only put an end to his regrets, and his resolve. It was a sad ending for viewers who had followed Lelouch so hard, but I also think it was a worthy ending. Geass is an anime that will warm your heart until the very end!
