The currently airing anime series "BANANA FISH" is based on the manga of the same name by Akimi Yoshida, which was serialized in Bessatsu Shojo Comic from 1985 to 1994. This work features a town called Chinatown, which is filled with Chinese restaurants and Chinese-style products. It is believed that the majority of the residents there are overseas Chinese. Among these gang members, I would like to introduce some overseas Chinese who are related to the main character, Ash Lynx, and Ash's enemy, Dino Francis Golzine.
Shorter Wong

He is the best friend of Ash Lynx, the main character of this work, and the boss of New York's Chinatown. He has a friendly and cheerful personality, and is caring towards his friends and likes a big brother. His hair is a strange purple color, and half of his head is shaved. His family runs a Chinese restaurant. He is very caring towards his friends, and will rush to Ash's aid when he's in trouble. In the anime version, he is voiced by Furukawa Makoto.
Li Yuelun

The youngest brother of the Li family, which controls the Chinese mafia. He now wields real power after defeating his half-brothers who killed his mother. He has studied medicinal herbs and potent drugs since the age of six, and is highly knowledgeable in these fields. Using this knowledge, he investigates Banana Fish from a different angle than Ash Lynx. Although he lives in a similar environment to Ash, Ash has a unique presence in Eiji Okumura, whom he is both envious of and jealous of, and sometimes even tries to kill. In the anime version, he is voiced by Fukuyama Jun.
Sin Suurin

He is the boss of the Chinese, second only to Shorter Wong, the best friend of Ash Lynx, the protagonist of this work. While he retains a childlike appearance, he possesses the temperament of a leader, excels in leadership skills, and has a caring side. Even when she is forced into a dangerous situation, she never loses her cheerfulness and confidence, which is one of her strengths. She also appears as an important character in "YASHA" and "Eve's Sleep," works published by original author Yoshida Akimi after "BANANA FISH." In the anime version, she is voiced by Chiba Shoya.
Rao Yen Tai

A street kid from Chinatown. He is also the half-brother of Sing Su-Ling. He has been suspicious of Ash since a certain incident. He is voiced by Soma Saito in the anime.
