He rushes around trying to protect him from Dino Francis Golzine, who relentlessly targets Ash. In the anime version, he is voiced by Ueda Yoji.

Ibe is a guardian figure to Eiji Okumura. A photographer by trade, Ibe invites Eiji to New York for a reporting trip after he is injured while pole vaulting, which leads to him becoming embroiled in a Banana Fish-related incident. He calls Eiji "Ei-chan" and can be a little overprotective. However, his kindness is also one of his charms. He often wears modest clothing and his beard is a trademark. In the anime version, he is voiced by Shinji Kawada.

6th Place: Max Robo

A former military officer, Max is now a freelance journalist. When Ash Lynx, the protagonist of this work, is taken to prison, Max is also there, and he takes care of him. He fought alongside Ash's older brother, Griffin Carlenreese, in the Vietnam War, and they were like comrades in arms. However, after Carlenreese could no longer bear the war and turned to drugs, an incident that resulted from that led to them no longer being able to face each other, and they have not seen each other since. He is usually calm and gentle, and is also very approachable, which is one of his charms. In the anime version, he is voiced by Hiroaki Hirata.

5th Place: Shorter Wong

His family runs a Chinese restaurant. He cares deeply for his friends, even risking his own safety to help Ash when he's in trouble. When Ash, Skip, and Eiji Okumura were captured by Frederick Orser and Marvin Crosby, he was the first to jump into action and come to their rescue. This kindness is one of his charms. In the anime version, he is voiced by Furukawa Makoto.

She is the second most powerful Chinese character after Shorter Wong, the best friend of Ash Lynx, the protagonist of this work. Although she still looks childish, she has the qualities of a leader, excels at teaching, and also has a caring side. Even when she is forced into a dangerous situation, she never loses her cheerfulness and confidence, which is also one of her strengths. She also appears as an important character in "YASHA" and "Eve's Sleep," works published by original author Yoshida Akimi after "BANANA FISH." Chiba Shoya is the voice actor for the anime version.

3rd Place: Eusis (Li Yuelun)

The youngest brother of the Li family, who control the Chinese mafia. He now wields real power after defeating his half-brothers, who killed his mother. He has studied medicinal herbs and powerful drugs since he was six years old, and is highly knowledgeable about them. He uses this knowledge to investigate Banana Fish from a different angle than the main character, Ash Lynx. Although he lives in a similar environment to Ash, Ash has a unique presence in Eiji Okumura, whom he is both envious of and jealous of, and even attempts to kill Eiji. In the anime version, he is voiced by Jun Fukuyama.

Second Place: Eiji Okumura

One of the boys who fights alongside the protagonist, Ash Lynx. He is a Japanese native of Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture. He was a pole vaulter during his school days, but was forced to quit due to an injury. As a result, he ends up going to New York with Ibe Shunichi, who is like an older brother to Eiji, and gets caught up in a case. He has an innocent and gentle personality, which is why Ash trusts Eiji and is saved by his kindness. He often behaves in ways you wouldn't expect from his gentle personality. When he is being chased by the mafia, he runs towards a tall wall that stands in his way. Just when it seems he has nowhere to run, he uses a nearby pole substitute and jumps over the wall in pole vaulting fashion. Of course, unlike in a competition, there is no mat or anything at the end of the road, but the way he jumps so fearlessly is something you would never imagine given Eiji's personality. This contrast with his strength at the last moment makes him a fascinating character.

1st Place: Ash Lynx
