Wataten!, originally written by Mukugi Nanatsu, is a four-panel comic that has been serialized in Ichijinsha's Comic Yuri Hime since 2017. It's a slightly yuri, slapstick comedy about the everyday lives of a reclusive female college student and elementary school girls. In January 2018, the long-awaited anime adaptation began production by Doga Kobo, the studio behind Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun and Himouto! Umaru-chan, and has become a hot topic! In this article, we'll introduce you to Hoshino Hinata, one of the main characters from Wataten!.
Wataten! A Brief Synopsis
One day in May, almost two months into her college career, the protagonist, Miyako Hoshino, a reclusive and gloomy college student, was lazing around as usual when her fifth-grade sister, Hinata Hoshino, came home. Hinata had brought a friend with her, a beautiful young girl with straight black hair named Hana Shirasaki. The moment she saw the girl, Miyako was overcome with a feeling she had never experienced before. It was at that very moment that she realized, "An angel had descended upon me." After meeting this girl, Miyako tries every trick in the book to become friends with Hana, but Hana is wary of her, and a hectic daily life begins, involving her younger sister Hinata and her friends.
Hinata Hoshino CV: Rika Nagae
Hinata is the younger sister of the main character, Miyako Hoshino, and is a fifth-grader in elementary school. She has a very energetic personality and is, for better or worse, a very honest person. The story begins when Hinata brings Shirasaki Hana home one day, so in a sense, she could be considered the greatest contributor to this work. She's a lively, modern-day child character who loves her older sister, Mya-nee.
Rika Nagae
Hinata is played by the highly anticipated young voice actress, Rika Nagae! Although she made her voice acting debut in 2016, she's steadily improving her skills by playing main and supporting roles. Her most famous role is probably Olivia from the still-remembered Asobi Asobase! Her ability to perfectly portray this lively little girl, a character with a stark contrast in many ways, shows her true talent, making her a voice actress with exciting future prospects.
Hoshino Hinata is full of energy!
This is probably the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Hinata! The name Hinata is a perfect fit for her, as she's a bright, energetic girl, always running around or yelling, just like the sun. What's amazing about her is that even when she has a cold, she remains full of energy. Her energy is so overwhelming that even Mya-nee seems like she can't handle it, and she's often left feeling overwhelmed. In many ways, she's the most childlike and lifelike character in the series. Even so, she's still way too energetic (lol).
Hoshino Hinata Loves Mya-nee
Considering that Mya-nee is a freshman in college and Hinata is a fifth-grader in elementary school, the age difference between them is probably around 7-8 years. Normally, with such an age difference, the older sister would dote on the younger sister, but in the Hoshino family, it's the other way around. Hinata has an extraordinary affection for Mya-nee! Of course, Mya-nee also dotes on Hinata, but Hinata dotes on Mya-nee even more. Let's take a look at some episodes to see just how much she loves Mya-nee.
Mya-nee Evangelism
Hinata loves Mya-nee so much that she's always bragging about her to her classmates at school. As a result, Hinata's biased opinions of Mya-nee's many wonderful qualities spread and were exaggerated. Her classmates began to spread the word that she was an amazing older sister, describing her as a great cook, tailor, beautiful, model, etc. (lol)
Mya-nee Crafts
Even when she has to make something like clay for homework or something, Hinata remains unwavering! She even manages to make Mya-nee's face out of clay! Unfortunately, it was rejected by Mya-nee (lol).
Protecting Mya-nee with her own body
Whenever Mya-nee is threatened by evil forces (store clerks or other adults), Hinata will protect her with her own body! She's fully aware of Mya-nee's weaknesses, so she'll quickly step in to help her out when she's in trouble! Hinata is cool, but more importantly, Mya-nee is being protected by an elementary school student... (lol)
If it makes Mya-nee happy
Mya-nee's hobby is making Hinata cosplay, and while Hinata herself isn't interested in cosplay at all, she'll happily wear anything that makes Mya-nee happy! She disregards her personal likes and dislikes and prioritizes making Mya-nee happy above all else. She may be a little over the top, but she's a really good girl who loves her big sister... When it comes to hair, she doesn't go to the salon because she gets it cut by Mya-nee, and apparently she doesn't mind shaving her head if it makes Mya-nee happy (lol).
Hinata will support Mya-nee!
Hinata understands that Mya-nee is a social misfit (lol), and when her mother scolds her about what she's going to do in the future, she tells her, "I'll support her!" So cool! So reliable! That's how it feels, if Mya-nee said it (lol). It's even crazier that an elementary school student said it, and that Mya-nee didn't seem completely opposed (lol).
She hit it off with Matsumoto
Although their paths are somewhat different, the two of them hit it off as Mya-nee admirers. Matsumoto is a pretty crazy guy, but it seems they both share the same feelings for Mya-nee (lol). It feels like two pieces that should never have come together have come together...
Withdrawal Symptoms in Two Days
Feeling a bit overwhelmed by Hinata's constant clinging, Mya-nee issues a ban on her! Naturally, Hinata is quite emotionally exhausted, but by the second day, she starts talking to the clay figurine she made of Mya-nee, and by the third day, she begins experiencing withdrawal symptoms, feeling as if her soul has been drained from her! The moment the ban is lifted, she begins courting her abnormally, as if to make up for the days she missed (lol).
Hinata-chan is so handsome!
Hinata's siscon and activeness may stand out, but in the story, aside from her siscon traits, she actually has a fairly normal way of thinking. Plus, she's a great athlete and has a manly, straightforward personality, so she can act coolly even when she says or does things that might seem a little embarrassing. Her cool demeanor is the polar opposite of Mya-nee, so much so that Noah develops a liking for her. It's true, when she protects Mya-nee from villains, she's incredibly cool! Since there are no male characters, Hinata is the handsome guy (lol).
Hinata is a natural beast
He's not at fault for this, and he's not doing it consciously, so you can't blame him. However, perhaps because of his straightforward, masculine personality, he's the type who can't lie and casually says things that he probably shouldn't. Well, it's probably better than trying to flatter someone, but Mya-nee and Hana-chan still get a little hurt by Hinata's words (lol). So, here are some of her most cruel comments.
Mya-nee has no friends!
This was said to Matsumoto, who showed up claiming to be Mya-nee's friend. While she was defending Mya-nee, even if it wasn't true, it was a pretty big blow to her (lol).
Wow! That outfit is ugly!
That's what she said when she saw Hana's favorite Higerou print on her clothes. Mya-nee was being considerate and didn't say anything, but Hinata couldn't lie, so she cut it off straight away. It really is ugly, after all (lol).
Hoshino Hinata Summary!
No matter what, Mya-nee is her top priority, and she's a devoted little sister who will do anything to make her happy. It's fine because she has no plans, but I can't help but worry about what will happen if Mya-nee decides to leave home, or what she'll do if she gets married, even though she has no plans at all. Anyway, Hinata's love for her big sister is also a big part of the appeal of this work, so let's continue to show off her sister complex side!
