Wataten!, originally written by Nanatsu Mukugi, is a four-panel comic serialized in Ichijinsha's Comic Yuri Hime magazine since 2017. It's a slightly yuri-esque comedy about the everyday lives of a reclusive female college student and elementary school girls. The long-awaited anime adaptation, produced by Doga Kobo, the studio behind Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun and Himouto! Umaru-chan, began airing in January 2018, and has been generating a lot of buzz! This time, we'll be introducing you to Hana-chan, also known as Shirosaki Hana, the main heroine of Wataten!.
Wataten! A brief synopsis of the series
One day in May, almost two months into her college career, the protagonist, Miyako Hoshino, a reclusive and gloomy college student, was lazing around as usual when her fifth-grade sister, Hinata Hoshino, came home. Hinata had brought a friend with her, a beautiful young girl with straight black hair named Hana Shirasaki. The moment she saw the girl, Miyako was overcome with a feeling she had never experienced before. It was at that very moment that she realized, "An angel had descended upon me." After meeting this girl, Miyako tries every trick in the book to become friends with Hana, but Hana is wary of her. This leads to a hectic daily life that involves her younger sister, Hinata, and her friends.
Shirasaki Hana CV: Sashide Maria
The main heroine of this work is a fifth-grade elementary school student. She is a charming and adorable girl with distinctive straight black hair. When Hinata brings her to visit the Hoshino family home, she catches the eye of her older sister, Mya, who takes a liking to her. At first, she's wary and repulsed by Mya-nee's criminal-like behavior, but as she's fed the high-quality sweets she makes, she gradually opens up and their relationship develops, regardless of the sweets. While she has a mature air about her, she still retains many of her elementary school-like qualities, which is very Hana-chan-like.
Sashide Maria
The heroine, Hana-chan, is played by Sashide Maria. Hana, a young voice actress who only debuted in 2016, plays the heroine for the first time. She's still a rising star, so she hasn't had many appearances, but she's appeared in films like Sora to Umi no Aida. Hana's acting in this film is also excellent, so we can expect even more from her in the future.

At first glance, she may seem like a grown-up, modern-day child, but inside, she's still a child with a sweet tooth and a sweet tooth. She's such a master of sweets that she'll accept anything she's offered, even if she absolutely hates it. Even Mya-nee, who is usually on the brink of committing crimes herself, worries that Hana might be lured into kidnapping by the lure of sweets. She's a cute girl with a voracious appetite who will overcome any obstacle for sweets!
Shirasaki Hana's clothes are ugly
Hana-chan is cute and has a somewhat flawless image, but her fashion sense is catastrophically lame (lol). She's obsessed with a strange character I don't really understand, and she wears clothes and buys merchandise featuring that character. Her sense of style is often described as uncool by adults and even children, and even Miya-nee can't quite shake it off (lol).
Shirasaki Hana is Clumsy
Another unfortunate aspect that's far removed from her image is that Hana-chan is frighteningly clumsy. When she makes crafts, she creates mysterious objects, and when she bakes sweets, she makes charcoal! When she's asked to help with baking or sewing, she's easily dismissed as a helpless character (lol). Despite her cool appearance, her clumsy nature makes her rather adorable.
Shirasaki Hana is easily scared
If she's clumsy and wears ugly clothes, this is bound to come with it (lol). Hana is extremely scared, and she's easily frightened of not only ghosts but also animals like dogs. Well, it's appropriate for her age, but other than Hana-chan being cute, she's basically a total mess (lol).

Hana-chan has sold her soul to cosplay in exchange for sweets! She's forced to dress up in Mya-nee's cosplays almost every day! Her cosplays are incredibly cute, and they're the biggest draw of this series (lol). So, let's take a look at a few of Hana-chan's cosplays!

This is the very first cosplay Mya-nee was made to wear, a Western-style gothic outfit. It's the memorable first costume she was made to wear, and it was the first costume she continued to wear.

It's a very cute cosplay, reminiscent of the Pretty Cure of the WataTen world. Mya-nee also wore it, and while it still felt a little awkward on her, Hana-chan looked incredibly cute!
Shirasaki Hana, for one reason or another...
Finally, I want to say that Hana, for one reason or another, likes Mya-nee. She'll never admit it (lol), but even though she acts like their relationship is just about sweets, she still tries to do things to make Mya-nee happy and cares about her. At first, she probably wasn't very good at it, but watching her gradually open up and develop feelings for her is so soothing and wonderful.

Shirasaki Hana is the main heroine of WataTen! She's incredibly cute and adorable on the outside, but she's a pretty unfortunate girl on the inside, making for a cute, contrastingly adorable girl. She has a fairly calm personality, but it's quite dangerous to do whatever she's told when sweets are offered to her (lol).
