Flatolte often argues with Laika, who appears in this work, "I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level," but they are also good rivals. At first, she was a troublesome young lady who loved to harass people, but after becoming part of Azusa's family, she becomes a lively mood maker who adores her. Flatolte is full of highlights, with her bold side and unexpected talents. So, today we'll introduce the charms of Flatolte, the blue dragon!
When she first appeared, Flattorute was a blue dragon nicknamed the "Queen of Harassment."
Flattorute's first appearance occurred after Laika, Falfa, and Sharshaharkara joined the team and the incident with Beelzebub was over. Upon hearing that Laika's sister, Layla, was getting married, Azusa and her family attended the wedding, only to be greeted by Flattorute and the other blue dragons, who arrived to harass them. However, Blue Dragon's threat to harm his family angered Azusa, knocking Flatorte out with Azusa's "Witch's Heel Drop." Later, Beelzebub, who happened to be present, joins in. Immobilized by a debilitating spell, Flatorte is forced to pay compensation and sign a non-aggression pact.
They eventually make up, but Flatorte still can't remember his name.
Flatorte is repeatedly called by her name during the battle, but she never gets it right, likely intentionally making mistakes. Each time, she has to correct him, saying, "It's Flatorte!" Before the battle, he's "Furafuratte." After capturing him, he's "Furafura Tart." After surrendering, he's "Fruit Tart." When he arrives at the wedding to apologize, he's "Cocoa Latte." Even Flatorte eventually chimes in, saying, "You were doing that on purpose!" Despite Flatorte's apparent interference, he ultimately goes to Layla's wedding venue to celebrate. Judging by their interactions, it's not that they're on bad terms, but rather that they're long-time friends who've known each other well.
Flattorute's next appearance is in the middle of Volume 4 of the manga.
Unlike the other family members, Flattorute didn't immediately become family with Azusa upon meeting her. He first appeared in Volume 2 of the manga, and his next appearance is in the middle of Volume 4. He appears in the Peace Division of the Demon Medal Award Ceremony. Flattorute was also selected for this award, which Azusa and her friends also received. He was selected because he upheld the non-aggression pact and united the Blue Dragons to prevent conflict. Flatorte appeared uneasy after their long-awaited reunion, but it seems he couldn't refuse when the Demon King urged him to accept the award.
The Slightly Complicated Relationship Between Azusa and Flatorte
After receiving the award from the Demon King and driving a wedge into Flatorte so as not to break the treaty, Flatorte quickly tried to leave, but Pecola threatened to drive another wedge into him and ordered Azusa to stroke his horn. Flatorte strongly opposed this. Blue dragons have a unique custom: having their horns stroked signifies "complete submission." Even so, when forced to choose between letting the red dragon Laika or the witch Azusa touch his horn, he ultimately swore his submission to Azusa, uttering a desperate "Whatever!" and letting Azusa touch his horn.
Azusa and Flatterte after pledging submission
From then on, Flatterte never left Azusa's side. Blue dragon customs are extremely strict, and Flatterte cannot do anything unless ordered by his master. He never answers with anything other than "yes." He stands next to Azusa while she's eating, refusing to eat unless she says "it's okay to eat." He also stands awake while she's sleeping. Flatterte tries to follow her home, but Laika begs Azusa to order him to return home. However, Flatterte refuses, stating, "It's Blue Dragon custom to commit suicide when separating from your master." He declares that he will die if ordered to do so by Azusa.
Flatterte regains his energy after being welcomed into the family
Flatterte never acts independently unless ordered to do so by his master. Despite his military mindset, after forming a master-servant relationship with Azusa, he is clearly listless and his eyes seem dead. Unable to bear seeing Flatterte like that, Azusa commands him, "When you arrive at the house on the plateau, think and act for yourself without waiting for orders." Although he initially cried after this, Flatterte has made a complete recovery! He still calls Azusa "master," but he has regained his energy and returned to his free-spirited personality.
Flattorute vs. Laika Duel
A few days after Flattorute joined the family, Flattorute and Laika, who had been at odds for some time, began a duel. However, having sworn not to fight in front of the Demon King, the two were unable to fight. Instead, they decided to compete to see who could make the best cookies Azusa could taste. Azusa told them, "Both of us will win," but this didn't resonate with them. So, they decided to hold a cookie sales competition in the village, which would also serve as a way to introduce Flattorute. However, the village battle ended in a draw... After that, rumors spread, and the cookies the two made became a huge hit. Flatorute and Laika's artisan spirit is ignited, and for a while, they continue to bake cookies regardless of the outcome. Incidentally, the two had bet that the winner would get the chance to sleep with Azusa, but since the contest ended in a draw, the three of them decided to sleep together in a row.
Wildness explodes!? Hunting wild boars for meat!
One day at breakfast, Harukara, on cooking duty, was serving salad when Flatorute suddenly screamed, "I want meat!!" Dragons are carnivores, so she's essentially a carnivorous girl. Even the usually argumentative Laika agrees, and Flatorte declares that she wants to devour not chicken but more "animal"-like meat, and devour it wildly. Just then, a request to hunt down a longhammer boar arrives. Azusa and her friends head to the forest where the boars live to enjoy some wild meat.
Flatorte Running Around Naked
Flatorte arrives in the forest, unable to contain himself and running, singing the "Song of Meat." However, the forest is overgrown with trees, and his clothes get tangled, leaving him unable to move. The ghost Rosalie then makes a ridiculous suggestion: "If you don't want to get caught, you'll either get naked or die!" Flatorte shamelessly stands naked, ignoring Azusa and the others' attempts to stop her, and sprints into the forest. She's discovered by Beelzebub and his men, who have come to investigate, and returns crying, but she runs off again, wearing only her underwear. He was once again stripped naked during a battle with a wild boar, but after that, his sense of shame seemed to disappear, and he returned to his wild nature and continued fighting naked.
Flattorute, the Bard Maniac
Flattorute basically just eats meat and rampages, but in volume 6 of the manga, a surprising hobby of his is revealed: his "bard maniac" side. He knows over 1,000 bards, even going so far as to recognize Schifanoia, an unknown band with an audience of around 30 people (15 of them fellow musicians). He's also heard some crazy death metal, and gives incomprehensible descriptions of them, such as "Among the itinerant bards, they're more emotional, crime-based, and even more death-based," and "A more solitary, engaging type."
He himself plays the lute and is a talented singer.
When Azusa sees that Kuku, a member of Schifanoia, is having trouble with his music career, she asks Flatorte for advice. Again, a confusing exchange ensues, leaving the average person behind... Kuku is left in a daze after Flatorte's final words: "You're just bad at technique, after all." Flatorte then begins singing while playing the lute to demonstrate. Flatorute said, "I only played a little with my friends, and I'm still a good amateur," but Azusa praised him highly, saying, "He was so good I thought I was going to cry!" Kuku's outlook on life changed, and he gave up on death-type games.
Flatorute celebrates his final victory over the Red Dragon
Azusa and his family visit the hot springs of Rocco Volcano, Laika's hometown, and discover a ping-pong table. Apparently, its official name is Takki-Yu, but the rules are exactly like table tennis. Although Azusa is not an advanced player, she loves table tennis and was even a member of a table tennis club in her previous life, so she immediately holds a table tennis match. However, she is easily defeated by the advanced player Laika with just one twist. Standing in Laika's way is Flatterte. The two engage in a fierce battle, but in the end, Laika's serve error ends the game. After that, we see a glimpse of Azusa's stingy side as she never plays another match in order to keep her victory on her record forever.
The energetic Blue Dragon. Flatterute Summary
So far, we've introduced Flatterute, the 400-year-old blue dragon girl. What did you think? She initially appears as a mean character, but after joining the family, she becomes a beloved, cheerful, and energetic mood-maker. There was a gap between her first and second appearances, so it's unclear how much of an impact she'll have in the anime, but we're looking forward to seeing Flatterute in action!
