The story begins when Shimamura appears in front of Adachi, who is skipping class on the second floor of the school gymnasium. Both Adachi and Shimamura are so-called delinquents who skip classes, but they are not violent delinquents.
The two of them, who do not get deeply involved with each other and maintain a moderate distance, feel comfortable with their relationship and start to do more activities together. As they play table tennis, eat lunch together, and talk about trivial things, the two gradually become attracted to each other.
A secret relationship?
On his way home from school with his friends Hino and Nagato, Shimamura encounters Adachi standing alone. Shimamura, who has not told anyone about their relationship, looks away and leaves the scene.
Regretting that they parted ways in an awkward atmosphere, Shimamura decides to wait for Adachi on the second floor of the gym the next day. Just when he thought Adachi would get angry after all, Adachi suddenly appears.
The two decide to go home together and ride their bicycles together in the rain. Shimamura asks Adachi if he has any friends, to which Adachi replies, "Hmm, maybe Shimamura." Shimamura feels that Adachi needs him, and becomes more and more interested in him.
Even though it's just the two of us
As usual, Adachi and Shimamura are slacking off on the second floor of the gym. Hino and Nagato appear there. After introducing themselves to each other, the four of them start chatting over lunch.
At first glance, it's a heartwarming scene, but Hino and Nagato don't talk to Adachi, and Adachi keeps his distance and doesn't look at them at all. Seeing Hino and Nagato playing table tennis, Shimamura senses something is different.
There is no sense of lethargy when Adachi is alone with him. The next day, Adachi does not come to the gym. Shimamura is worried that he will never see Adachi again.
Because he wants a reason to see Shimamura
Suddenly, Adachi appears on his bicycle in front of Shimamura, who thought he might never see him again. "I was thinking of giving them to you during my lunch break," Adachi said, handing Shimamura a cream bun, a sandwich bun, and mineral water. Shimamura realized that all of these could be bought at the store, and remembered that Adachi had previously said, "I'll go next time." Adachi is a very honest person, but he probably wanted an excuse to see Shimamura. Understanding this, Shimamura asked him to go home with her, and the two of them returned home together.
Self-proclaimed alien "Chigamasha"
Shimamura, who went fishing with Hino, meets the mysterious self-proclaimed alien "Chigamasha" at a fishing pond. He is said to have come to Earth to look for "Doho", but he has a very troublesome atmosphere...
Hino had invited Shimamura to go fishing in order to force Chigamasha onto him. Shimamura responds well to the troublesome opponent. After talking for a while, Shimamura says, "It's hard to catch anything," and Chigamasha says, "The important thing is to think that way first." He continues, "Thinking like that means you're starting something." After hearing this, Shimamura thinks that nothing will happen unless he says it, so he decides to invite Adachi to class.
Actually, you like me...?!
Adachi accepts Shimamura's invitation and decides to attend his class. After school, the two head to the station to eat donuts. After eating the donuts, Adachi gently holds Shimamura's hand as they head home.
Shimamura is confused by the suddenness of the situation, but Adachi thinks that he may have always walked with someone like this, and squeezes his hand back tightly. Surely... Adachi likes girls? I was worried about what to do if he confessed to me... and I was getting nervous when the self-proclaimed alien "Chigamasha" appeared again. Adachi, who is shy, saw the two of them talking and made an excuse that he was going to get his bike and left the place.
I was seen in an embarrassing place
Adachi stubbornly refuses to tell Shimamura where he works part-time. Adachi, who works part-time at a creative new Chinese restaurant, is forced to wear a Chinese dress as his part-time work uniform because he is young. Adachi didn't want Shimamura to see him like this, but then Shimamura came to the store with his family. Adachi was all about what Shimamura thought when he saw him working part-time in a Chinese dress. The next day, Adachi was relieved when Shimamura said, "You were cute," but at the same time, he was embarrassed and gave a mysterious reply, "Shimamura is cute too."
That's not normal, I'm sure
Adachi decided to go to Shimamura's house to play. He remembered a dream where he was in love with Shimamura and asked if he could sit between Shimamura's legs. Adachi is nervous that he said something strange, but Shimamura immediately replies, "It's okay."
Adachi sits down nervously, but Shimamura calmly accepts. It seems that his sister sits like this, so he thinks it's normal. Adachi is so nervous that they could kiss, and he almost says "I love you," but he can't make a sound and he can't even breathe. Not knowing what to do, Adachi just runs out of the house.
What is the identity of the beautiful girl who suddenly appeared...? !
Shimamura is worried about Adachi, who suddenly left. When he goes to the gym, Adachi isn't there, and when he sends him an email, there is no reply. When school is over and there is no communication from him, Shimamura is about to go to Adachi's house when suddenly a beautiful girl appears in front of him.
Shimamura is confused and doesn't know who she is, and the beautiful girl puts on a helmet and introduces herself. It is the self-proclaimed alien, Chigamasha. She says she has a face and has come to show it to Shimamura. Yashiro is an alien and a person from the future, and if his true identity is revealed he will be dissected, so he has stopped wearing his space suit to avoid attracting attention. Yashiro leaves, saying, "I think you were probably born to meet me," and goes back to get dinner.
They were supposed to be alone...
When Shimamura visits his house, Adachi opens the front door as he has just woken up. Adachi feels embarrassed when Shimamura sees him in his sloppy pajamas and hurriedly changes. The reason he didn't reply to the email was because he left his bag in Shimamura's room.
Adachi has a part-time job and can't spend much time with Shimamura, so he says "Saturday or a date..." and invites him out to play. Shimamura arrives at the meeting place. It's not Adachi who shows up, but Yashiro.
Yashiro is excited because they can meet without a meeting, but then Adachi arrives in casual clothes. Adachi is confused, but Yashiro half-forcefully takes the two of them out to eat.
A rival appears?!
When Yashiro sits next to Shimamura at a family restaurant, Adachi doesn't sit opposite him, but pushes Shimamura to the back and sits next to him. When Yashiro teases Shimamura, Adachi teases him too.
Even though they are young children, their rivalry is obvious. In the end, they face off against Yashiro in a bowling match, and Shimamura is forced to choose which side to support.
Adachi is usually a quiet guy, but when it comes to Shimamura, he can't stay calm.
Be honest with yourself
Shimamura, Adachi, Hino, and Nagato all go to karaoke together. Adachi, who isn't good at playing with others, keeps looking at Shimamura during the karaoke. Shimamura, who is worried about Adachi, talks to him at the park on the way home.
Unable to contain his feelings due to Shimamura's kindness, Adachi asks Shimamura to stroke his head. Shimamura gently strokes his head, saying, "Adachi is a spoiled brat." At that moment, despite his intense heartbeat, Adachi's heart calms down so much that he feels like he could quietly shed tears. He wants to be special to Shimamura. He doesn't mind being weird as long as he's special. Adachi realizes that he loves Shimamura, and decides to live true to himself.
Adachi's mother appears
Shimamura, who came to the gym with his mother, meets Adachi's mother in the sauna. Neither of them reveals their true identities, but Shimamura seems convinced that she is Adachi's mother.
Shimamura challenges the mother, who doesn't speak well of her daughter, to a sauna battle. He promises that if he loses, he will behave like a mother to his daughter. Adachi's mother, who lost the battle, tries to say something as she leaves, but leaves without saying a word.
Perhaps she realized that she was an acquaintance of her daughter. The next day, while talking to Adachi, he learns that she had dinner with her mother yesterday. Shimamura is impressed by Adachi's mother's honest personality, who keeps her promises even to children she doesn't know.
Choosing a gift for Shimamura
Adachi was worried about what to buy for Shimamura as a Christmas gift, so he decided to consult with Hino. Hino readily agreed, and the two of them decided to go buy tea after school.
Adachi bought a black tea called "Legend of Africa" and bought him tea as a thank you on the way out. Hino smiles and says, "Oh, I've found something good about Adachi."
This scene shows that Adachi is gradually opening up to people other than Shimamura.
Meanwhile, the present for Adachi is...
Shimamura also prepared a present for Adachi. Shimamura, who knew he had no sense of style when it came to choosing presents, consulted Nagato and went shopping together.
The two of them bought a boomerang and goggles... They were wrapped cutely, but they were presents with no idea what to use them for. It shows that both Shimamura and Nagato have incredible sense of style...
However, Adachi seemed very happy that Shimamura had prepared it for him.
Message for Adachi
Adachi and Shimamura spend Valentine's Day together. After exchanging chocolates, Shimamura takes Adachi to the station's promotional electronic billboard. There was a message on it that read, "Let's continue to be friends! Shimamura Hogetsu."
Shimamura says that he posted it and it happened to be the winner, and that Adachi suddenly came to mind when he was sending it. When Adachi heard this, he couldn't sit still and hugged Shimamura without caring about what other people thought.
Shimamura gets a little angry at the suddenness of it all, but says that he can hug her if he gets permission, and the two of them embrace each other in a friendly embrace.
We'll always be together
Now in his second year, Adachi reflects on his life so far. He seems to be aware that his character is too different now than it was before he met Shimamura. He is quite positive, saying that his past and present selves are connected from the past, and that he likes both.
But for such a positive Adachi, a terrible challenge awaits him: changing classes. Will he be able to be in the same class as Shimamura? If he is in a different class, Shimamura will not come to see him so actively. Their relationship may become even more one-sided than it is now. Adachi goes to look at the class chart with many worries. Hino and Nagato are in the same class, and they have been together for about 10 years.
