<![CDATA[The original is a light novel by Iruma Hitoma that was serialized in Vol. 28 of Dengeki Bunko Magazine in 2013, and was made into a manga in 2016, with an anime set to air in October 2020. It is a slice-of-life story centered around two girls, Adachi and Shimamura, who gradually become attracted to each other and develop a relationship that is more than just friends... a so-called yuri story. Each part of the story progresses from either Adachi's or Shimamura's point of view.
Shimamura is the other main character of this work, and is liked by Adachi and Yashiro. Why are they attracted to her? In this article, we would like to introduce Shimamura's charm along with some scenes.
Her real name is Shimamura Hougetsu
Another main character of this work alongside Adachi, she is a high school girl who brought about a dramatic change in the depressed Adachi. She is more of a masculine character and likes Adachi, but she doesn't necessarily need him. Unlike Adachi, she has friends and a good relationship with her family.
Her name comes from the real-life artist Shimamura Hougetsu. Shimamura himself thinks that his last name is the same as "Fashion Center Shimamura" and feels that people around him call him in hiragana, so in the story, his name is often written in hiragana as "Shimamura". In the self-introduction scene and the scene where a message is displayed on the electronic bulletin board, his full name is written in kanji as "Shimamura Hogetsu". Incidentally, Adachi first learned Shimamura's first name on this electronic bulletin board.
Shimamura is interested in Adachi
Shimamura skipped class and went to the second floor of the gymnasium, where he met Adachi by chance. Shimamura is comfortable with the two of them, who maintain a good distance from each other, and before long they are together. Shimamura wonders why Adachi is at school, as he has never seen him talking to anyone else and has never attended class. However, Shimamura thinks that if he says something like that, Adachi might stop coming to school, so he keeps his thoughts to himself.
Shimamura's Friends
Shimamura, who is with Hino and Nagato, happens to meet Adachi. Perhaps because he doesn't want others to know about his relationship with Adachi, Shimamura looks away and leaves without a conversation. Shimamura regrets that he may never see Adachi again because of this, but Adachi appears on the second floor of the gymnasium. In the slightly awkward atmosphere, Shimamura gathers up his courage and invites him to go home with him. On the way home from school, Adachi says, "So you have a friend named Shimamura," to which Shimamura says he does have others, mentioning a fast fashion brand.
Shimamura is considerate of Adachi, who doesn't have that many friends, and is trying to lighten the mood with a joke using his own name, Shimamura, in his own way.
You can't start until you say it
Shimamura met Chikama Yashiro through Hino's introduction. While fishing, he said, "It's hard to catch anything," and Yashiro told him that it's important to think that way. Yashiro said that thinking that way means you're starting something.
Those words touched Shimamura's heart, and he mustered up the courage to invite Adachi to class. Although the relationship was fine the way it was, Shimamura took a new step because he wanted to continue to be with Adachi, wanting to advance to the next grade and graduate together.
From this point on, Shimamura starts to participate in classes little by little, encourages Adachi to work hard together, and takes action to move forward.
Still, it's surprising to see such a philosophical statement coming from a girl like that... (At this point, Shimamura doesn't realize Yashiro's true identity.)
I'm interested in Adachi, but...
Shimamura can't hide his shock when Adachi suddenly holds his hand on the way home from school. Shimamura likes Adachi as a friend, but more than that... but he's imagining all sorts of things and getting nervous.
Even so, Shimamura doesn't shake him off and holds his hand tightly. I thought he was really kind. He can't leave Adachi alone.
I don't think it's normal at all...
When Adachi goes to Shimamura's house, he asks if he can sit between Shimamura's legs, just like in his dream. Adachi is nervous that friends would sit like this, but Shimamura accepts it without hesitation.
He seems to think that this is normal because his sister sits like this. Shimamura is usually a normal person, but surprisingly, his sense of this is a little off. Thanks to that, Adachi had a good time.
Apparently, this is his normal behavior
After Adachi leaves, Shimamura plays a game with his sister. His sister sits between his legs and they play together.
After all, Shimamura seems to be more like himself when he's with his family than when he's with his friends, so this is a scene where you can see the real Shimamura.
His sister who is attached to Shimamura is cute, but does Shimamura feel that Adachi is like a little sister to him?
Shimamura, who gets along with everyone
Shimamura and Adachi go on a date just the two of them, but suddenly a beautiful girl appears. Her true identity is that strange self-proclaimed man from the future, Yashiro.
Yashiro likes Shimamura and follows him, almost forcibly, or rather, taking the initiative. Adachi is confused, but Shimamura gently holds his hand and asks him to go with her. Shimamura, who doesn't reject anyone and connects those around him, probably makes more friends like this.
In the end, Adachi and Yashiro are fighting over Shimamura, and it's a complete harem situation.
I can't leave Adachi alone
Shimamura, Adachi, Hino, and Nagato decided to go to karaoke together. Shimamura was curious about Adachi, who had been looking at him many times during the karaoke, so on the way back, he and Adachi talked at the park. Various thoughts about Shimamura ran through his head, and before he knew it, Adachi was asking, "Can you pat my head?" Although it is an unexpected statement, Shimamura gently strokes his head and says, "Adachi is a spoiled brat." In the classroom, Shimamura jokes that Adachi should not be called "big sister" and tries to take out the trash with him. To Shimamura, Adachi is not only a precious friend, but also a sister that Shimamura cannot leave alone.
Meeting Adachi's Mama
Shimamura, who was taken to the sports gym by his mother, happens to encounter Adachi's Mama at the sauna. Adachi's Mama does not say much good about Adachi, but Shimamura gives his opinion even though they have never met. It's not a good feeling to have someone say bad things about your precious friend, even if it's your parent. After this, they have a sauna battle to decide who is right, and Shimamura wins. Adachi's mother lost the battle, but as a parental behavior, she ate dinner with Adachi as promised. Adachi's mother keeps her promises even to strangers, so she is definitely not a bad person.
However, whether eating dinner together was good for Adachi is another story... Shimamura is a busybody (lol)
Overwhelming lack of taste...
Shimamura received a Christmas present from Adachi. In fact, Adachi said that he had prepared something as well, and Adachi was excited to see what he had prepared for him.
He finds a boomerang and goggles?! They are wrapped cutely, but when and where will he use them...?
He seems to have been aware that he has no sense when it comes to choosing presents, and he consulted Nagato and bought them together... I doubt Nagato's sense either.
However, Shimamura seems to think that it's not so bad after all (lol)
Old Memories
Shimamura reunites with Tarumi, his best friend from elementary school, at Nagato's family butcher shop. They go out together later, but while Tarumi still calls him "Shima-chan," Shimamura has forgotten what he used to call him. The two part ways in an awkward atmosphere. As they part ways, Shimamura remembers what Adachi used to call him and musters up his courage to shout out.
It was the moment when the distance between the two of them, who had been separated, was brought back a little.
A prince to Adachi?! What is the charm of Shimamura, the other main character? Summary
What did you think?
It's no wonder that everyone likes Shimamura, who is kind to everyone and kindly accepts the spoiled Adachi. It will be interesting to see how Shimamura, who thinks of Adachi as a younger sister he can't leave alone, develops his feelings in the future!
