"Yakannara Mug Cup Mo" is a story about a high school girl who moves to Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture, and becomes fascinated with pottery and becomes absorbed in it with her friends. The second season will be broadcast in October this year, which is attracting attention. This time, I would like to introduce the main characters related to the pottery club, which is the main focus of this work!

Toyokawa Himeno

Toyokawa Himeno about to go to school

The main character of this work. Himeno was not originally a resident of Tajimi City. After her father was laid off, Tokishiro moves to Tajimi, where his late wife's family lives, to open a cafe, relying on the family home. Himeno moves with him. In addition to her father being laid off, her mother also passes away, making this protagonist a very eventful life, rare for an Slice of Life anime. Her late mother was named Toyokawa Himena (maiden name Tokigawa), and was actually a famous potter. Himeno herself did not know this at first, but she learns the truth when she joins the pottery club. This leads to her becoming engrossed in the world of pottery.

Kukuri Mika

Himeno's classmate. She is a bright and very energetic mood maker. She actively talks to Himeno from the first day of class announcement, and then invites Himeno to join the pottery club. Mika's works are original and not limited to the shapes of typical pottery such as plates and cups, and she creates small items in the shape of animals. During her self-introduction, she said that she was in the art club in junior high school, so her originality may come from that experience. She is childhood friends with Aoki Touko, who is in the same club. Although she sometimes gets angry at Touko for being too loud and messy in the club room, they still care about each other very much.

Aoki Touko

She is the captain of the pottery club to which Himeno and Mika belong. She is a second-year high school student, one year older than Himeno and her friends. Her grandfather is a potter, and as a result, her skills are far superior to those of the members of the pottery club. Her junior, Kukuri Mika, is also her childhood friend. She is one of the few people who calls Mika by her first name, "Mika-chan." In contrast to Mika, she has a calm personality, and is often depicted turning the potter's wheel and seriously devoting herself to the art. Although she sometimes gets angry when she sees Mika making noise and having fun in the club room, she cares deeply for Mika. She also kindly and carefully teaches Himeno, who has just joined the club, how to use the potter's wheel. She is trying and testing things every day, aiming to become a potter like her grandfather.

Naoko Naruse

She is a first-year student at the same high school as Himeno and Mika, but is in a different class from Himeno and the others. She likes manga and games, lives across from Himeno's house, and Naoko's parents run a barber shop at home. She likes the coffee at the cafe run by Himeno's father, and is a frequent customer. Although she often hangs out in the pottery club room, she doesn't seem to be very interested in pottery itself, and is not a member of the club. She often comes up with unique ideas, which surprises those around her.

Mami Koizumi

She is the advisor of the pottery club to which Himeno and her friends belong. She is also the homeroom teacher for Himeno and Mika's class. As the advisor of the pottery club, she seems to have some ability to teach, but there is no depiction of her being able to do so so far. In the upcoming second season, we may see a scene where she shows off her pottery skills.

Summary of Characters

What did you think? Here is a summary of the main characters of "Yakkuna Mug Mo". Although the anime has a strong image of a heartwarming, everyday life story, there is also a certain kind of sports-spirited, very passionate element in the way Himeno and her friends try and fail to create their works. I'm looking forward to the second season, which will air soon, to see what kind of works Himeno and her friends will create as members of the pottery club and how they will grow! That's all for now. Thank you for reading!
