The World of Uma Musume Pretty Derby
In a world where humans and Uma Musume coexist, Uma Musume are the object of people's admiration. Races attract large crowds, and fast Uma Musume enjoy popularity on a par with idols. A distinctive feature of this work is that most of the Uma Musume characters are named after real racehorses, and the backgrounds and characteristics of the racehorses are nearly identical to those of the historical racehorses.
What is Team Spica?
The Uma Musume Training Center Academy, commonly known as Toresen Academy, where the main characters attend, is home to various teams, each with its own educational philosophy and trainers. Among them, Team Spica doesn't have a particularly good reputation, and at the beginning of the story they are a bit eccentric and are somewhat mocked by those around them, making them a bit of an oddball team, but as the story progresses each member begins to blossom and they grow into a strong team that other teams can't let their guard down against.
Special Week Voiced by: Azumi Waki
The protagonist of this work, Special Week is a lively and cheerful Uma Musume. Her teammates affectionately call her Supé-chan and Supé-senpai. She moved to Tokyo from the countryside of Hokkaido, and at first, she didn't even know what an automatic ticket gate was. She saw her first live race in the city for the first time and was inspired by Silence Suzuka, and has since set her sights on becoming like her. Her biological parents died shortly after giving birth, and she has since lived with her current foster parents. In order to fulfill a promise she made to both her foster parents and biological parents, she works hard every day to become the best Uma Musume in Japan.
Silence Suzuka (CV: Marika Takanashi)
A key character in the series and the Uma Musume that Special Week admires. He was originally a member of Team Rigil, known as the strongest team, but left after disagreements with his trainer and not knowing what he wanted to achieve. He was then scouted by a Spica trainer and joined Spica. At first he kept his distance from the others, but Spe-chan's cheerfulness and the kindness of those around him gradually led him to open up, and before we knew it he had become a full member of the team. His specialty is long breakaways, and the way he makes a mad dash right after the start of the race and holds on to the end is a speed that captivates those who see it.
Tokai Teio CV: Machico
A cheerful and always smiling Uma Musume. Originally, she wasn't on any team, but after seeing Special Week's running and the bond between the Spica members, she was convinced that this team would bring her closer to her goals, so she decided to join Spica. She would normally be skilled enough to be included in Rigil, and her talent is recognized by her trainers. She is extremely skilled at dancing, and early on she was invited to be a dance instructor for the Spica members. She is the student council president of the school, and has a strong admiration for Triple Crown Uma Musume Symboli Rudolf, and is working hard with the goal of becoming an undefeated Triple Crown Uma Musume herself.
Vodka Voiced by: Ayaka Ohashi
One of the veteran members of Spica. Despite her boyish appearance, she is a pure-hearted girl. When she first appears, she kidnaps Special Week along with Daiwa Scarlet and Gold Ship (lol). She calls Special Week "Spe-senpai" and adores her. Although she's always arguing with her teammate, Daiwa Scarlet, they seem to be very close and rivals.
Daiwa Scarlet Voiced by: Chisaki Kimura
Another veteran member of Team Spica. She's a cute girl with a great figure and distinctive double teeth. She's an idol-like Uma Musume at school. Although she's always arguing with her teammate Vodka, they're actually friendly rivals.
Gold Ship (CV: Hitomi Ueda)
She's also one of the veteran members. To put it positively, she is free-spirited, but to put it negatively, she is a Uma Musume with a wayward way of thinking who is too playful. She feels some kind of connection with Mejiro McQueen, and is always playing pranks and pranks on him, but basically always ends up getting beaten back. She seems to make money by selling bento lunches at school events and the like. In real life, Gold Ship and Mejiro were grandfather and grandson, so it's like she's the grandson who wants to play with his grandpa.
Mejiro McQueen (CV: Saori Onishi)
Currently, she is the last member to join Spica. As the daughter of the prestigious Mejiro family, she is usually polite, but can raise her voice when Gold Ship picks on her. At first, she had no intention of joining Spica, but after seeing Gold Ship's enthusiastic invitation and the hard work of the Spica members, her feelings began to waver, and in the end, due to her inability to say no, she was forced to join the club. Despite everything, she is good friends with Gold Ship.
Trainer Voiced by: Koji Okino
The trainer who instructs the members of Team Spica. He has a knack for discerning talent, and he recognized Special Week's talent at first sight and scouted her. Whenever she sees that Suzuka is not able to fully utilize her talents, she scouts her and demonstrates her abilities, but sometimes she makes her lose in a race, and when that happens, she cries with her and vows to get revenge, which has earned her the deep trust of the Uma Musume. However, she also has a pathetic side, as she sometimes says something inappropriate and gets beaten up by the other members, but that's also one of Spica's good points.
【Uma Musume】Team Spica Summary
Team Spica, led by protagonist Special Week, initially had a poor reputation and was often looked down upon by those around them. However, after Special Week and Suzuka joined, the team's members made a tremendous advance, becoming a team approaching the strongest team, Rigil. The members of Spica are friendly but can also be strict at times, and at first they all didn't want to join (lol), but they're all cute and nice, so if you haven't seen them yet, be sure to check them out.
