The anime "There's No Medicine for My Brother!" is incredibly popular. It's a laid-back, hilarious comedy anime that'll make you chuckle. The original work is a hugely popular webcomic in China, and is also serialized in Japan in "Shonen Jump+." It's a school comedy centered around student brother and sister Shifen and Shimyo, and the dialogue between the two is entertaining and popular. With the third season of the anime scheduled to air in October 2019, it's been gaining more and more attention recently. In this article, we'll introduce Shifen, the older brother from the anime "There's No Medicine for My Brother!".
What kind of character is Shifen?
Sihun is the older brother of the main characters. He's a first-year high school student (or a junior high school student) and attends a regular junior high school. (Regular junior high schools are equivalent to high schools in Japan.) As the anime title suggests, he's so stupid there's no cure for him. According to Tokibyou, he has no special skills, no girlfriend, no academic ability, and no guts. He's shallow-minded, and often shows signs of being a wimp, such as trying to act cool but failing, or doing something sneaky that gets his younger sister Tokibyou to challenge him in a martial arts match. Looking at him like this, he seems like a bit of a disappointment, but for some reason, his charm lies in his lovable nature. By the way, he's on the basketball team, but he's a substitute.
He looks like this next to his younger sister, Tokisho!
Tokisho is also cute, isn't he? Looking at him like this, they might seem like a good couple...? Or so it seems, but they're actually siblings with polar opposite personalities. However, they often spend time together, and they're actually good friends.
A disappointingly handsome guy...? What does Tokisho look like?
Tokibun's appearance is like this. He has distinctive black hair with a stray hair. He tends to look down and generally has a cool expression. At first glance, he looks pretty cool, but due to his disappointing personality, he's not often portrayed as a handsome guy. He's also disliked by girls (!), and is often harassed by delinquents because of his own actions. He's blessed with good looks and is tall, but he lacks muscle strength and doesn't seem to make the most of his abilities.
What is the relationship between his younger sister, Tokibun, and Tokibun?
Though Tokibun seems to be a bit of a disappointment, he seems to care deeply for his younger sister, Tokibun. He does some nasty things and shows his wicked side (he always subdues her with martial arts), but he takes care of the household chores and seems to love his sister. Incidentally, his parents divorced when he was young, his father rarely comes home, and he's separated from his mother, creating a complicated family situation. Despite this, Tokibun seems to feel a deep need to act like a good older brother. He often ends up overdoing it, but deep down, he's a kind older brother.
Full of things to point out! Tokibun's funny episodes
From here, we'll introduce some of Tokibun's funny episodes featured in the series. Tokibun gets into all sorts of trouble and gets beaten up by his sister, but what exactly are his misdeeds (?)?
He messes up at a sausage shop!
This is the opening scene of Episode 1. Tokibyou and Tokibyou want sausages, but Tokibyou can't buy them because he doesn't have any money. Tokibyou has some pocket money, so he's able to get one, but seeing Tokibyou looking so greedy, Tokibyou offers to give him a bite. However, Tokibyou eats the whole sausage in one bite... Of course, Tokibyou quickly beats him up with a martial arts technique. That takes a lot of courage, doesn't it? Still, it's unusual to see sausages at a food stall like a yakitori restaurant, and it makes me wonder if it's part of Chinese culture.
Mischief at an All-You-Can-Eat Restaurant!
Attracted by an advertisement that read, "Couples Only! Eat the entire all-you-can-eat full course for free," Tokimi decides to go with his younger sister, Tokimi, pretending to be a couple, but is quickly turned down... So he invites his friend, Kaishin, to the restaurant. At first, she refuses, but they force their way in as a couple. When asked to "make a heart shape together" for a photo, they think about it and end up making a heart shape with separate parts. At first, they're both thrilled about the all-you-can-eat option, but they soon get bored. But then they resort to a sneaky trick! He piled up plates and hid his leftovers underneath them, making it seem like he'd finished his meal before leaving the restaurant. As a result, he was posted up as a malicious customer... However, this incident allowed Tokishou to learn that Kaishin and Tokishou are friends, so it all worked out in the end.
A charming, cool voice! Tokishou is played by popular voice actor Yuichi Nakamura
Tokishou is played by popular voice actor Yuichi Nakamura. Yuichi Nakamura is known for his quirky voice, especially among women. He's played a wide variety of roles, from classic handsome guys to unfortunate handsome characters like Tokito, as well as losers, villains, heroes, and even cross-dressers! Yuichi Nakamura's most notable roles include Karamatsu in "Osomatsu-san." He's also played Grizzly-san in "Shirokuma Cafe" and Koga Kimitaka in "Yowamushi Pedal."
A Summary of the Lovable Big Brother, Tokito!
That concludes our introduction to Tokito from "There's No Medicine for My Brother!" He's a pretty good-looking guy if he keeps quiet, but it's amusing to see how he doesn't make the most of his looks. He also does something stupid and gets scolded by his sister... a familiar pattern, but the exchanges between them always make you chuckle. It's a three-minute anime, so you can watch it in no time, and we highly recommend "There's No Medicine for My Brother!" to busy working adults and students alike. If you're interested, why not give it a watch?
