"The Capable Cat is Depressed Today Too," which will be adapted into an anime series starting in July 2023, is a comedy about the daily life of Yukichi, the incredibly capable cat who supports his owner, Yukichi, who is beautiful, good at her job, and respected by everyone, but in reality is a dried-up owner with no ability to live independently. However, Yukichi also had a time when he was just an ordinary kitten. This time, we've compiled a summary of how Yukichi and Yukichi met, from when they first met to how Yukichi became the capable cat he is!

The meeting of Yukichi and Yukichi! Yukichi moves into the Fukuzawa household.

Korai and Yukichi first met on an unseasonably snowy day. At the time, Yukichi was just a black stray kitten. Just when he thought he would soon starve to death, Korai picked him up and named him Yukichi. Yukichi realized he would soon become a pet cat, but that was a big mistake. He was brought to a room so dirty he could have mistaken it for a garbage dump.

This guy's a weirdo!

This is a garbage dump

Koki's room was so small it felt unsafe, with barely any room to move. But worse than anything, Yuki, who had rescued Yukichi, was exhausted and on the verge of death. Yukichi, who had picked up Yukichi, was sloppy and had no time for anything. Still, the loyal Yukichi pondered how to repay the kindness of his host for the food and lodging. Apparently, the owner hated the shiny black insects that often appeared in the room, so he decided to first try to exterminate them.

Yukichi's affection quickly wore thin, and he left the Fukuzawa household.

Yukichi about to leave home

Koki's room is always littered! Yet, he doesn't seem to mind it at all, sleeping soundly in the entryway as usual. He instinctively knows that a person like that, who remembers to feed his roommate but doesn't care about his own affairs, won't live long. Realizing that staying here would only bring them both ruin, Yukichi decides to leave early. And just as he's about to leave, the front door is wide open, presenting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Yukichi Learns to Take Out the Trash

Yukichi Taking Out the Trash

When Yukichi decides to leave Kouki's apartment and steps outside, he happens to see his neighbor taking out the trash. As a token of gratitude for all the help he's received, he takes out the trash and heads back to his apartment. Yukichi's apartment has become his own home. Realizing that creatures who can't take care of themselves won't live long, and that he doesn't want to see both of them go down together, he decides to take care of this useless person himself.

Yukichi is harassed by an old man named Ooya

Ooya and Yukichi

Even after Yukichi started taking out the trash, he still had the habit of sleeping in the entranceway (he always keeps a pillow and blanket on hand so he can fall asleep the moment he gets home), and he didn't even notice that Yukichi's room had gotten bigger. Since Yukichi started taking out the trash, he's been getting into frequent fights with an old man named Ooya, who claims the area around the garbage dump as his territory, and he's been getting harassed.

Is Ooya actually a nice guy?

Washed Yukichi

Ooya seems to hate cats, and is a nasty old man who makes a big deal out of them whenever he sees them. Not only is he incredibly strict about trash sorting, he also forces the dirty Yukichi to shampoo (for cats) to make him look nice, and even forces him to wear a homemade apron to keep him from getting dirty. He's a nasty old man.

Kako's Owner, Not Feeling Well

I could do it myself

Even though the owner had cleared out the trash, made the room more spacious, gotten rid of the bugs, and ventilated the room, the environment was supposedly improving, but the owner still showed no signs of improving. Then, one day, accidentally touching a button on the remote control, he came across a children's cooking education program, where he learned that eating delicious food can help him feel better. The program was playing rice balls.

A Pet Owner Sees Death in the Near Future

Shinisousaku-chan

Yukichi, who learned to gain knowledge from television, discovered that Kouki was severely undernourished and sleep-deprived. He became convinced that if he continued living like this, he would surely die. If that happened, he wouldn't be able to eat delicious snacks or canned cat food. Yukichi decided to cook rice using the rice cooker he found in his room.

On a Cold, Snowy Day

A Certain Snowy Day

The rice cooker is ready, but there's no rice. Yukichi tries to get through to his older brother, asking him how to get some rice, but he can't get through to her. More snow falls, and Oya suffers a back injury and collapses. Oya is taken away in an ambulance, and Yuki worries about whether Yuki will be able to return home safely in this snowy weather. Knowing that the cold of snow can be deadly, Yukichi anxiously waits for Yuki's return.

Yukichi Escapes to Get a Rice Ball

In Search of Rice Ball

When Yuki finally returns, her face is pale and she looks like she's about to die. Even in this situation, Yuki is careless about herself, so Yuki escapes from her room in search of something to cheer her up: a rice ball. She breaks into a convenience store but is caught by the store clerk. Yuki chases after her and is rescued by Yuki, but Yuki manages to feed her an onigiri.

The Capable Cat Cooks Rice for the First Time

Yukichi Cooks Rice

Yukichi cooked rice for Korai for the first time. He looked smug, but Korai himself mistakenly thought he had gone crazy because of the heavy workload and quit his job. Having learned to some extent from watching TV what it meant to quit, Yukichi was left to wonder if his actions had been wrong.

The Determination of a Capable Cat

Yukichi to Buy Medicine

Soon after Kouki quit his job, he started frantically preparing for his new job, and his tidy room became a mess. Hearing from his father that making something called bento would make things better, he once again sets out to dig out his rice cooker. That night, as he was worried about Kouki's late return, he arrives home after drinking heavily and with a man. The man was his boss, so it wasn't a case of being tricked by a bad guy, but Kouki himself falls ill with a fever and is bedridden. The Capable Cat bursts into the supermarket with a 10,000 yen bill, leaves the money, and steals some cold medicine.

A Capable Cat and His Lunchbox

Yukichi Handing Over His Lunchbox

The next day, Yukichi, who had completely recovered thanks to the cold medicine, hands him the rice ball he made before leaving the house. It was his first lunchbox. From that moment on, Yukichi realized that Yukichi was a capable cat and began to care for him with all his heart.

【The Capable Cat is Depressed Again Today】A Summary of the Capable Cat's Past

Here's the story of how Yukichi, a simple kitten, became a capable cat! The past arc is included at the end of the comic, and covers the time when Kouki was working at a black company and was worn out, as well as the time when the talented cat was just a kitten. It's a great story, so I hope it's included in the anime too!!
