Koki's room was so small it felt unsafe, with barely any room to move. But worse than anything, Yuki, who had rescued Yukichi, was exhausted and on the verge of death. Yukichi, who had picked up Yukichi, was sloppy and had no time for anything. Still, the loyal Yukichi pondered how to repay the kindness of his host for the food and lodging. Apparently, the owner hated the shiny black insects that often appeared in the room, so he decided to first try to exterminate them.

When Yukichi decides to leave Kouki's apartment and steps outside, he happens to see his neighbor taking out the trash. As a token of gratitude for all the help he's received, he takes out the trash and heads back to his apartment. Yukichi's apartment has become his own home. Realizing that creatures who can't take care of themselves won't live long, and that he doesn't want to see both of them go down together, he decides to take care of this useless person himself.
Yukichi is harassed by an old man named Ooya
Even after Yukichi started taking out the trash, he still had the habit of sleeping in the entranceway (he always keeps a pillow and blanket on hand so he can fall asleep the moment he gets home), and he didn't even notice that Yukichi's room had gotten bigger. Since Yukichi started taking out the trash, he's been getting into frequent fights with an old man named Ooya, who claims the area around the garbage dump as his territory, and he's been getting harassed.

Ooya seems to hate cats, and is a nasty old man who makes a big deal out of them whenever he sees them. Not only is he incredibly strict about trash sorting, he also forces the dirty Yukichi to shampoo (for cats) to make him look nice, and even forces him to wear a homemade apron to keep him from getting dirty. Even though the owner had cleared out the trash, made the room more spacious, gotten rid of the bugs, and ventilated the room, the environment was supposedly improving, but the owner still showed no signs of improving. Yukichi, who learned to gain knowledge from television, discovered that Kouki was severely undernourished and sleep-deprived. He became convinced that if he continued living like this, he would surely die. If that happened, he wouldn't be able to eat delicious snacks or canned cat food. Yukichi decided to cook rice using the rice cooker he found in his room.
On a Cold, Snowy Day
The rice cooker is ready, but there's no rice. Yukichi tries to get through to his older brother, asking him how to get some rice, but he can't get through to her. More snow falls, and Oya suffers a back injury and collapses. Oya is taken away in an ambulance, and Yuki worries about whether Yuki will be able to return home safely in this snowy weather. Knowing that the cold of snow can be deadly, Yukichi anxiously waits for Yuki's return.

When Yuki finally returns, her face is pale and she looks like she's about to die. She breaks into a convenience store but is caught by the store clerk. Yuki chases after her and is rescued by Yuki, but Yuki manages to feed her an onigiri.

Yukichi cooked rice for Korai for the first time. He looked smug, but Korai himself mistakenly thought he had gone crazy because of the heavy workload and quit his job. Having learned to some extent from watching TV what it meant to quit, Yukichi was left to wonder if his actions had been wrong.
The Determination of a Capable Cat
Soon after Kouki quit his job, he started frantically preparing for his new job, and his tidy room became a mess. Hearing from his father that making something called bento would make things better, he once again sets out to dig out his rice cooker. That night, as he was worried about Kouki's late return, he arrives home after drinking heavily and with a man. The man was his boss, so it wasn't a case of being tricked by a bad guy, but Kouki himself falls ill with a fever and is bedridden. The Capable Cat bursts into the supermarket with a 10,000 yen bill, leaves the money, and steals some cold medicine.

The next day, Yukichi, who had completely recovered thanks to the cold medicine, hands him the rice ball he made before leaving the house. It was his first lunchbox. From that moment on, Yukichi realized that Yukichi was a capable cat and began to care for him with all his heart.
