Where did Season 1 of The Rising of the Shield Hero end?

The Rising of the Shield Hero anime cover

Season 1 begins with the Shield Hero being disgraced and his honor restored. In the fourth wave, it is revealed that Glass is a hero from another world, that L'Arc and Therese are also heroes and their companions from another world, and that the heroes from the other world are fighting against the heroes from the other world in order to save their own world. Although the fourth wave did not result in a decisive victory, it was clear that our side was not strong enough. Meanwhile, Rishia, a subordinate of Itsuki, the Bow Hero, who had performed well in the fourth wave, was fired due to jealousy. Naofumi decided to protect Rishia and train her. Season 1 ended with Naofumi's interactions with Rishia and the restoration of Raphtalia's village as the Shield Hero's village.

Story Part 1: Rishia and Keel's Training

Ponkotsu Rishia

Shortly before Rishia began training, the Shield Hero and Raphtalia received a visit. It was Keel, Raphtalia's childhood friend who had been rescued from Idol's territory. Keel believed that the Shield Hero was forcing Raphtalia to fight, and he resolved to fight the waves himself. Naofumi understood Keel's feelings and decided to train Rishia. Currently, Keel's level is simply too low to be of any use, and Rishia's level is high but her stats are so disappointing that she's not even worth discussing.

Story Part 2: Eclair Seelet's Appearance

Eclair's Appearance

Naofumi meets Eclair Seelet, his swordsmanship instructor introduced to him by the Queen. Eclair was the daughter of the lord who once ruled Raphtalia's territory. She was imprisoned for trying to stop a mob of knights. Following the downfall of the Three Heroes and Scum, she was freed by the Queen. Eclair is one of the top five swordsmen in the country, and she was summoned to serve as a combat advisor for the heroes. Other heroes had also been summoned for this training, but none of them were present.

Story Part 3: The Unrivaled Old Woman

The Talented Rishia

In addition to Eclair, there was another person summoned. It was the old woman Naofumi had saved during his journey. In fact, this old woman is the successor to a style called Hengen Musou-ryu, and she has also been called in to help train the heroes in combat. The old woman says that Rishia, who always ends up half-hearted no matter what she does, is a once-in-a-century talent. The Hengen Musou-ryu style used by the old woman is a secret technique that harnesses the energy within the body, and Rishia is made her successor. The other three heroes also join the training, but because it is a style that requires steady effort, the three who dislike hard work don't think they will see results by the time of the next wave, so they give up.

Story Part 4: Strange Events Occur Within the Country

A Mysterious Woman Who Wants You to Defeat Her

The heroes have abandoned their training, and the queen tells them that if they cannot follow her instructions, she will end her support and allow them to travel abroad. However, she orders them to participate in the next wave and defeat a mysterious monster that has appeared within the country as a condition. The three heroes agree, but Naofumi doesn't think they will be able to do it well. Then, a mysterious person appears before Naofumi and asks him to defeat her.

Story Part 5: The Mysterious Pattern of the Mysterious Monster

Some kind of parasitic monster

To investigate the monster, Naofumi and his friends head to a village once infested by a plant-like monster. Naofumi had previously saved the village from a crisis and was welcomed. They begin investigating the monster's corpse. It has an unnaturally embedded shell part attached to it, as if it were parasitized. When they absorb it, it displays the symbol "Familiar of --," but they have no idea what it is. Meanwhile, a bat-like monster attacks the village. Keel, who remained in the village, intercepted the monster, but...

Story Part 6: A Parasitic Monster?

The Heroes Make It Again

Fortunately, the attacking monster was weak and was eradicated, but it had the ability to plant egg-like things on other monsters and humans, using them as seedbeds to increase its numbers. Keel became parasitized by the egg, and despite being treated, he became weak. At that moment, Rishia had a recurring memory. Naofumi and the others returned once to report to the Queen about Rishia's suspicions, where they heard from the Queen that the other three heroes had broken their promise and left the country. The three heroes had prior knowledge of the situation and had set out on their own to reclaim their lost territory. Their intentions were clear: to outwit the other heroes, the Queen, and Naofumi. Naofumi suspects this is a hunch and heads to Fitoria, but Fitoria has already given up on the other three heroes and is unable to get her cooperation.

Story Part 7: Towards Defeating the Spirit Turtle

Stone monument written in Japanese

Rishia's investigation reveals that the three heroes set out to defeat a spirit turtle that had appeared in the eastern country. When Naofumi and his friends arrive at the scene, the spirit turtle has already gone out of control, and the three heroes are nowhere to be seen. Just as they attempt to stop the spirit turtle, someone decapitates it. However, the familiars continue to operate, so Naofumi and his friends head to shrines and temples to gather information. There, they find the remains of people who had already been used as seedbeds scattered everywhere. There, Naofumi finds a message written in Japanese.

Story Part 8: The Spirit Turtle's Familiar Appears

The Woman Who Was Actually the Spirit Turtle's Familiar

Written there is a message from the hero who sealed the Spirit Turtle in the past, warning them not to break the seal. It also contains a cryptic message that the seal will be broken in the seventh place. Naofumi and his companions travel to the surrounding villages, engaging in battle with the Spirit Turtle's familiars. During this battle, the mysterious figure Naofumi saw firsthand appears. The person introduces himself as the Spirit Turtle's familiar and reveals that the Spirit Turtle's body has been taken over by someone, that the original seal has not been broken, and that the Spirit Turtle's role is to collect the world's soul and create a barrier to protect it from the waves. This is why he asked the Shield Hero to defeat it.

Story Part 9: Inside the Spirit Turtle's Body

L'Arc and the others reappear

The Spirit Turtle's goal is to cause chaos in the country, collect souls, and maintain the barrier. The Spirit Turtle's familiar calls himself Ost-Hourai, and in his role as the country's leader, he causes chaos and collects souls. Normally, the Spirit Turtle collecting souls itself would have been the last resort. In order to stop the out-of-control Spirit Turtle, Naofumi and his companions infiltrate the Spirit Turtle's body with the help of Melromarc's Mirellia and Fitoria, who has also joined the battle. There, they find a trio of strangers. Disguised by illusion magic, they are none other than L'Arc, Therese, and Glass. The situation is tense, but the trio disappear. Naofumi and his companions first reach the heart of the Spirit Turtle and crush it, but this does not result in defeating the Spirit Turtle. However, Ost's detection reveals the location of the mastermind.

Story Part 10: The Mastermind Kyo-Ethnina

The Mastermind Appears

By crushing the Spirit Turtle's heart and head, its core is exposed. There, they find the three captured heroes and the mastermind controlling the Spirit Turtle. This person is Kyo-Ethnina. In the worlds of L'Arc and Glass, she was the hero of the Book's Servant. Then, L'Arc and his friends appear. Their goal was to defeat Kyo, which was the reason they were there. Kyo overwhelms Naofumi and his companions with the energy of the Spirit Turtle and the Three Heroes, but thanks to Rishia's efforts, they find a way out. With Ost's help, Naofumi activates the Spirit Turtle's Heart Shield and destroys its core. However, Kyo steals the Spirit Turtle's energy and returns to his own world. L'Arc and the others follow, crossing over to another world.

Story Part 11: The Death of the Spirit Turtle, and the Journey to Another World

The Spirit Turtle's Testament

Although the Spirit Turtle was successfully defeated, its energy was stolen. Naofumi also tries to chase after him, but it violates the rules of the Four Holy Heroes. However, Ost, who is about to disappear, makes an exception and allows him to travel to the other world, and he ends up crossing over into the other world.
