The second act of "The Journey Lead by the Moon to Another World," the first of which aired in 2017, will begin airing in January 2024. While reports of a sequel have been circulating for some time, the information has finally been released. It has also been announced that the series will be broadcast over two consecutive seasons, and fans are likely excited. Before the second act airs, we'd like to recap the first six episodes of the first act.

Episode 1: "The Hero...Disqualified"

Makoto Abandoned in the Wilderness

The first episode begins with a heartfelt haiku from the protagonist: "In another world, I'm thoroughly unlucky. By Makoto Fukasumi." One of the highlights of Episode 1 is the opening scene, in which the protagonist, Makoto Fukasumi, is summoned to another world while branded a failed hero. The highlight is likely to be his battle with the invincible dragon, Mirage. First, let's take a look back at Makoto's summoning to another world.

The Divine Protection of Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto

Makoto and Tsukiyo-sama

Makoto was living his life as usual when he was suddenly summoned to the world of the gods by Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto, the god of Earth. There, Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto explains to Makoto why he was summoned to another world. According to the explanation, Makoto's parents were from another world, but for some reason they could no longer remain there. They made a pact with the goddess of that world, promising to offer up something precious to her someday, and came to Japan. When Makoto heard that if he didn't go, his older or younger sister would, he agreed to go to the other world. Tsukuyomi then bestowed upon Makoto all his blessings.

The Goddess Is Actually a Shitty Goddess

Shitty Goddess

When Makoto was called for her convenience, the goddess' first words to her were, "You're ugly." Makoto was originally called a hero, but simply because he was ugly, she treated him as trash, forbade him from interacting with humans (what they call people in his original world), and threw him to the edge of the world. When the Goddess called Makoto, she had arbitrarily summoned two humans as heroes and given them her protection. She only reluctantly gave Makoto the ability to speak languages other than human. Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto, who saw this, gave Makoto permission to live freely in the other world. In fact, the world Makoto lived in was a place where the protection of the gods did not reach, a harsh world where you were trained just by living. On top of that, with his human blood and Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto's protection, Makoto gained abilities that could be described as superhuman.

The Invincible High-Level Dragon, "Min"

Min Fights Makoto

Min and Miin first met when the Goddess dropped him to the edge of the world. There, Makoto rescued Emma from a monster and learned that she would be sacrificed to Miin. It was the work of a demon who had assumed Miin's name, but Makoto went to Miin for Emma's kindness. Makoto defeated the demon with a test shot of fire magic, but Miin appeared and attacked Makoto. Although Mirage had initially underestimated Makoto, he overwhelmed him with what Makoto described as conveniently high-quality cheat abilities. Panicked, Mirage trapped Makoto in a foggy barrier and began to explore his memories.

My first companion!?

Miracle expresses no hostility

It was then that Mirage realized Makoto was from another world. He became deeply intrigued by the memories he had glimpsed. Sensing Makoto's extraordinary power, Mirage no longer had any desire to fight. He asked Makoto to put down his spear and proposed a contract to become his ally. After Mirage sees his memories, Makoto reluctantly accepts the proposal and makes a contract. Makoto's power greatly surpasses his own, resulting in a contract of domination. As a result, Mirage, now in human form, declares, "Well then, I'll be counting on you once again, my master, Makoto!" and becomes Makoto's servant.

Episode 2: "The Black Spider of Calamity"

Magi Becomes a Servant

In Episode 1, Mirage, known as an invincible high-ranking dragon, makes a contract with Makoto and becomes his servant. Episode 2 focuses on Makoto's conversation with Emma and the other Highland Orcs he rescues, as well as his battle with the Black Spider of Calamity, a monster that devours anything. The Black Spider of Calamity has also fought Mirage before, but the battle was unsuccessful. The highlights of Episode 2 are how Makoto will fight this opponent and what happens after the battle.

Makoto's Ability: "Subspace"

Makoto and Mirage in the Subspace

Makoto, now Makoto's servant, uses his ability to take Makoto to a different dimension known as "Subspace." This is because the dimension has changed dramatically since they made a contract. The new world is filled with animals and plants similar to Makoto's original world, and the scenery is familiar to Makoto. Upon seeing the space, Makoto muttered, "I wish I could build something like a mirage city here." Shin didn't miss a word.

Makoto's Unknowing New Companions

Emma and the Highland Orcs

Emma comes looking for Makoto, who has returned to the wilderness. She's worried about him, who has gone to Misaki. However, she faints upon realizing that Misaki, who has become Makoto's servant, is standing next to him. The Highland Orcs welcome Makoto, who has saved Emma and the village. During this welcome, Shin and the leader of the Highland Orcs are heard talking. The next day, Makoto finds the Highland Orcs kneeling before him, their belongings packed. Mirage had decided to take the entire village to the Subspace. The Subspace welcomes its first residents, and Makoto also gains new allies.

The Black Spider of Calamity Attacks the Subspace

The Black Spider Comes to the Subspace

One day, after Makoto began living with the Highland Orcs in the Subspace, Mirage returns with an injured dwarf. He had rescued the dwarf from a Black Spider of Calamity. The Black Spider then follows him into the Subspace. Mirage leaves the Black Spider to Makoto and shows no desire to fight. Makoto is suddenly thrust into battle with the Black Spider.

After a deadly battle with the Black Spider...

Makoto's Enthusiasm for the Black Spider

Makoto fights the Black Spider, but the Black Spider has high regenerative abilities and recovers from the damage he inflicted. Makoto is sucked dry by the Black Spider and nearly eaten. At that moment, Makoto unconsciously awakens, unleashing his powers and striking the Black Spider hard enough to destroy it, causing him to lose consciousness. Just when he thought it had vanished, the Black Spider revives and captures Makoto. However, there, Kurogumo was embracing Makoto, captivated by his magical powers and blood. Mirage unintentionally suggested to Kurogumo that they could be together forever if she became Makoto's servant. Kurogumo agreed, and while Makoto was unconscious, they made a contract. When Makoto woke up, the former Kurogumo woman, now in human form, was sitting next to him.

Episode 3 "Human Shock"

Kurogumo Becomes a Servant

Episode 2 ended with Makoto waking up to a strange woman sitting next to him. The highlights of Episode 3 begin with the naming of the former Black Spider servant and Mirage, and the decision on what to call Makoto in the subspace. The highlight then finally comes as Makoto heads to human town. It'll be interesting to see if he'll be accepted by the humans.

New Companion: Elder Dwarf

Pein

Makoto complains to Mirage for making a pact with Black Spider while he was unconscious, but Mirage responds, "That's better than being haunted by Black Spider." Instead, Mirage wanted to introduce the dwarf he saved to Makoto. He was an ancient Elder Dwarf named Beren, and he came to ask for his clan to be accepted into the Ascended. Makoto immediately agreed, and Beren agreed to help with the construction of the city, provide weapons, and make Makoto his master, before returning to his companions.

New Companions, New Names, and Titles

Makoto, the Young Master

Then, Mirage and Black Spider urge Makoto to give him a name. When Makoto tries to come up with a name, Mirage and Black Spider become deeply angry. With no other choice but to think it over seriously, they named Mirage "Tomoe" and Kurogumo "Mio." Delighted, the two went out to tell everyone. The next day, Makoto was greeted by a sudden increase in the number of residents of the subspace. The Elder Dwarf, who had brought his companions, Tomoe's servant Misty Lizard, and Mio's servant Arke were the new residents of the subspace. Tomoe and Mio took a vote among all the residents on what to call Makoto - "Lord," "Young Master," or "Retired Lord." Makoto protested, but was completely ignored and "Young Master" was decided upon.

How many Demon Lords is Makoto worth!?

How many demon lords does Makoto have?

Unable to bear his loneliness, Makoto heads to the human town of Zetsuya, only to be driven back by a combined attack. Because Makoto's vast magical power was still leaking, to the humans it appeared as if several demon lords had appeared at once. Unable to give up, Makoto donned a mask, had the dwarves create a magical tool to suppress his magical power, and, accompanied by Tomoe and Mio, headed to the town once again as a merchant.

A Shadow Stalks Makoto and the others

A Girl Appears Before Makoto

After arriving in Zetsuya, Makoto and the others headed to the Adventurer's Guild to register. They measured their levels there, and Tomoe was at level 1, surprising everyone. Makoto remained at level 1, just as when Emma measured him. Despite the commotion, they successfully completed their registration and headed to the inn. However, Makoto and the others noticed someone following them after they entered town. Makoto went to eat with Mio, leaving Tomoe to watch the carriage. Suddenly, a suspicious assassin attacks the carriage, and a young girl appears before Makoto.

Episode 4: "The Festival After"

Rinon

Episode 3 ended with Makoto and his friends heading to Zetsuya, where they were confronted by assassins and a young girl. Episode 4 begins in Zetsuya. The girl who appears before Makoto introduces herself as Rinon and says she's looking for her sister. While Tomoe easily fends off the assassins in the carriage, Makoto scolds her for going too far. What will Makoto and his friends do in this town that's even more fishy than they thought?

The assassin's true identity is...

Captured Toa

As soon as Makoto saw the portrait of his sister drawn by Linon, his expression changed. It was because it looked exactly like the girl named Hasegawa who had confessed her love to him in the world before he was summoned. After peeking into the memories of the assassin Tomoe had captured, he realized that the attackers were members of the Adventurer's Guild. He also discovered that Linon's sister had been captured by these same people. Makoto ordered Tomoe and Mio to rescue Linon's sister. He felt that he would not be able to stay calm if he went.

A secret boss appears

The evil boss Mirus

Tomoe and Mio rescued and rehabilitated Linon's sister Toa, who had become a wreck. Just as they were about to leave, they were confronted by Mirus Ace, the number one adventurer in the wilderness. Mirus had been pulling the strings behind the scenes, manipulating the adventurers. Mirus and his subordinates, believing Tomoe and Mio to be lying about their levels, laugh and slander Makoto. Tomoe and Mio are unstoppable. A mere Millus was no match for the two, and Tomoe and Mio, even a slight disturbance, resulted in the burial of the entire mansion.

Toa is Safely Rescued

Tomoe and Mio Destroying the Wilderness

Meanwhile, Linon was being threatened and told to steal money, but she couldn't bring herself to do that to Makoto, who had been so kind to her, so she confessed the truth. Makoto silently patted Linon's head. Tomoe and Mio successfully rescued Toa, but then started fighting over who had done the most. Tomoe and Mio destroyed the town, vying for power, and the collapse of the wilderness was swift.

So, case closed?

Tomoe and Mio sent flying by Makoto

Linon was able to safely reunite with Toa. However, that wasn't the end of the story. Makoto praised Tomoe and Mio for saving Toa, but upon seeing the devastation in the city, he said, "Who told you to go this far?" and tied them up with Mio's thread. He then wrote a poem: "If you wish to reform the world, the city will disappear. By Makoto." He then hurled the two of them into the wilderness with a bow and arrow, telling them to "go and repent."

Episode 5 "A Greedy Carriage Journey"

Hazaru Explaining

In Episode 4, Tomoe and Mio destroyed Zetsuya. In Episode 5, Makoto and his friends, along with Toa's party and Linon, head for the town of Zige. Along the way, they stop by the base and report that Zetsuya's destruction was the work of monsters, and pretend that Tomoe and Mio never happened. Then, Tomoe, who is concerned about the level difference between her and Mio, is encouraged to go on a training trip and head to Zige.

Next Town: Zige

Makoto Defeats Monsters

On the way to Zige, Makoto and his friends defeat monsters and collect materials, heading toward the town. Upon arriving in Zige, Makoto registers as an adventurer again and checks the quests. He finds a special quest to find materials from the monster he just defeated. Makoto accepts the quest without hesitation. Toa warns Makoto to be careful. There's a rumor that bad things will happen if you accept a quest from the Rembrandt Company. Makoto is careful, though.

The first quest is full of challenges!?

Rembrandt and Makoto

After enjoying a meal with Toa and the others in Zige, Makoto returned to Subspace the next day. After checking on Subspace for the first time in a while, Makoto returned to Zige to complete a quest and headed to Rembrandt Trading Company. The words Makoto heard were unexpected: "I'm sorry, but you've got everything wrong. I'm sorry, but there's nothing more to discuss."

Episode 6: "The Melancholy of a Nice Middle-Aged Man"

Rembrandt

Episode 5 ended with Makoto being bombarded with unexpected words at Rembrandt Trading Company. Episode 6 begins with a discussion of Rembrandt Trading Company and the details of the request, followed by a commotion that occurs in the subspace. It could be considered a preparation period for Makoto to launch his own trading company.

Rembrandt's Request

Makoto who gives out Ruby Eye

Rembrandt, who spoke harshly to Makoto, misunderstood. He had heard that Makoto was a level 1 adventurer and was about to start a trading company, and mistakenly assumed that Makoto had approached him because he wanted a relationship with him. Rembrandt apologized for his rudeness and explained why he needed Ruby Eye. His wife and two daughters were suffering from a level 8 cursed disease, and he needed a medicine made with the high-difficulty demon Ruby Eye's eye. Makoto completed the quest, promising to trade three eyes and a companion to Toa, an alchemy master (alchemist).

The Merchant's Guild Exam

Makoto Takes the Exam

Makoto then headed to register with the Merchant's Guild. To register, he had to pass a written exam and a materials procurement exam. After being warned by guild staff that the exam was extremely difficult, the content was actually at the upper elementary school level. The materials he obtained were sufficient using the monsters he defeated on the way to Zige. Makoto passed the guild's first test on the first try.

Tomoe returns from her training...

Tomoe Eating a Gain Crab

Tomoe, who had been training, had returned to Subspace. Without Makoto's knowledge, she had been eating a large crab monster called a Gain Crab that she had defeated during her training with the residents of Subspace. Then, Tomoe received a call from Mio informing her that something terrible had happened in the Memory Storage. Tomoe rushed to the Memory Storage. Meanwhile, Makoto had returned to Subspace. He was checking on Tomoe's clone and the Subspace. Then, a telepathic message from Tomoe arrives, saying that Mio is in trouble. Makoto rushes to the memory storage.

Tomoe and Mio's pointless quarrel!?

Mio and Tomoe's quarrel

The scene Makoto sees in the memory storage is Tomoe and Mio arguing over Makoto's memories. Mio has become obsessed with the anime and special effects of Makoto's memories, and is demanding that Tomoe let her see them. When Tomoe refused Mio's endless demands, Mio threatened to eat her memories of period dramas. Makoto was annoyed by his servant's obsession with period dramas and his love of anime and special effects, but he gave Tomoe and Mio permission to watch them, even after giving them a lecture.
