Before the second season airs, we'd like to review the main characters that appear in the story!

Introduction: What is "The Case Study of Vanitas" about?

Fighting Vanitas

The story is set in 19th-century France, where humans and vampires coexist. Noé, a young vampire, heads to Paris in search of the Book of Vanitas, a grimoire said to curse vampires, but becomes embroiled in an incident. Amid the chaos, a human named Vanitas, a self-proclaimed "vampire specialist," appears before Noé. Vanitas possesses the grimoire Noé is searching for. This is a story of a human and a vampire, woven together by their strange encounter. By the way, the word "notes" in the title is pronounced "karute," not "shuuki."

Character 1: Vanitas

Vanitas's Profile

One of the main characters. A young human with black hair and blue eyes, he calls himself a vampire specialist. He inherited the "Book of Vanitas," including its name, from the Blue Moon vampire. He has a free-spirited and easygoing personality, but he also has a willingness to use any means necessary to achieve his goals. While traveling around curing vampires using the Book of Vanitas, he encounters the vampire Noe. He appreciates Noe's strength and asks him to become his shield, but he is quickly turned down. However, Vanitas's free-spirited nature doesn't seem to mind his rejection. Although Noe sometimes sees him as a "nuisance," they continue to work together.

Character 2: Noe

Noe's Profile

He's the other main character. A dark-skinned young vampire, he travels from the countryside to Paris in search of the Book of Vanitas. While generally gentlemanly, he often acts on impulse. During her journey, she meets Vanitas and begins traveling with him. Though they share different values and ways of thinking, she is a patient companion. She possesses superior combat abilities compared to other vampires, easily lifting and hurling heavy objects and destroying opponents' weapons, demonstrating overwhelming strength primarily in physical attacks.

Character 3: Jeanne

Jeanne's Profile

The heroine of the story. Like Noé, she is a vampire. She is a beautiful female warrior who fights alongside Luca and wields a red gauntlet. However, she once served as an executioner, earning her the feared nickname "The Inferno Witch." He has extremely high combat skills and can be ruthless in protecting Luca. He initially held animosity toward Vanitas and Noe, especially finding Vanitas's words and actions particularly bothersome, but they now cooperate with each other.

Character 4: Luca

Luka's Profile

A young vampire, Luca is Jeanne's guardian and travels with her. He holds a position and power second only to the Queen of Vampires. His real name is "Grand Duke Lucius of Oriflamme." She is a very polite woman searching for the Book of Vanitas to save her brother Loki. Like Jeanne, she initially viewed Vanitas and Noé with hostility, but now treats them with amicable affection.

Character 5: Dominique

Dominique's Profile

Dominique is the daughter of the Marquis de Sade, a prestigious vampire aristocrat. With her distinctive black hair and men's clothing, she exudes an air reminiscent of a Takarazuka star. She is a childhood friend of Noé, and is always concerned about her. While she treats Noé as a "beloved friend," she is not particularly fond of Vanitas, who is close to Noé, and is wary of him.

Summary of "The Case Study of Vanitas" Characters

What did you think? We've introduced the characters that appear in "The Case Study of Vanitas." While the worldview and battle scenes are interesting, each character has their own unique personality, and the interactions and relationships between them are also key points in the story. The reactions of the characters at the mercy of Vanitas's words and actions are particularly noteworthy, with many comedic elements. They contrast well with the grotesque and serious battle scenes.
