The anime "Paranghyou no Yohane - SUNSHINE in the MIRROR -", an official spin-off of "Love Live! Sunshine!!", will be broadcast in July. It is a fantasy story starring a protagonist modeled after Tsushima Yoshiko. Just like in the original work, all the members of Aquors appear in the story, but there is no concept of school idols and it is depicted as a story set in a different timeline. What kind of person is the main character, Yoshiko...or rather Yohane? We would like to explain Yohane while considering the similarities and differences with the original work!

Modeled on Yoshiko Tsushima

It goes without saying, but Yohane is inspired by the character Yoshiko Tsushima from "Love Live! Sunshine!!." She calls herself a fallen angel and is a so-called "chuunibyou" character. She hates being called by her first name, and when someone calls her "Yoshiko-chan," she immediately corrects them and calls them "Yohane." At school, she suddenly gives a full-blown chuunibyou self-introduction, which naturally leaves her classmates stunned, leading to her running away and skipping school. You might think she shouldn't have done it in the first place if she was so embarrassed, but these are the parts that make Yoshiko Tsushima so appealing. Although she is one of the most beautiful members of the group, her strong personality as a self-proclaimed fallen angel makes her a "disappointing beauty."

Protagonist: Yohane

This is the protagonist of the story. She works as a fortune teller. Unable to fit in with her surroundings, she keeps her distance from those around her. However, she is kind-hearted at heart and never turns down a request. She has a dog-like animal named Laelaps, who is Yohane's best friend. Compared to the original work, her appearance appears softer overall. In the original work, her eyes were slightly slanted, but that impression is no longer present in this work. The bun on the side of her head is still there, in the same position as in the original. Her outfit is reminiscent of a wizard, befitting a fortune teller.

Is Yohane Yoshiko Tsushima's ideal form?

Throughout the work, Yoshiko Tsushima behaves as if she were a fallen angel. Of course, she knows that in reality, she's just an ordinary high school girl, but her words and actions convey an air of "I really want to be that if I could." Yoshiko's character is not forced, but rather stems from her own ideals and aspirations. This is perhaps why she was able to create such a thorough character. While John isn't portrayed as a fallen angel in this work, I think it manages to recreate Yoshiko's favorite worldview to some extent. The costume has a fantasy feel, so it's easy to imagine Yoshiko would have wanted to wear something like that. John also works as a fortune teller, and in the original work, there's a scene where Yoshiko uses tarot cards to tell fortunes. Fortune telling, which could be considered Yoshiko's hobby, appears as John's job in this work. This, too, can be said to recreate Yoshiko's ideals. Also, Yoshiko would get annoyed and correct people whenever they called her by her first name, but in this work, her real name is John, so she doesn't have to correct them every time. This is probably the happiest thing for Yoshiko, who always wanted to be called John.

Summary of John's Explanation

This article explores the main character, John, with some of my own thoughts. I can't wait to see what role John will play in the story. I've included introductions to the other main characters in other articles, so please read those too! That's all for now. Thank you for reading.
