"Seven Demonic Swords Rule" is a Japanese light novel, abbreviated as "Nanatsuma." It won first place in the "Light Novel Lover Bookstore Clerk Awards 2019" and also in "This Light Novel is Amazing! 2020." It has sold over 700,000 copies and is garnering attention with an anime adaptation scheduled to air in July 2023. This time, we'd like to introduce the main characters!

Synopsis

The story is set at the prestigious Kimberly Magic Academy. It's said that 20% of the students here are consumed by demons. Oliver Horn, who enrolled at this school, has a gentle personality but harbors a dark side. Various wizards gather around him and compete with each other. However, an entity known as the Demon Realm threatens to turn its fangs on Kimberly. What will Oliver and his friends' fate be?

Oliver Horn

He is the protagonist of this work. A boy with a mature air, he is very caring and loyal. He also has a compassionate nature. He grew up in a maternal relative's household and is nicknamed "Noru" by his cousins. He practices magic comedy, but worries about not being able to get laughs. Some people who are strict about humor say it's "too difficult." Despite his cheerful personality, his true identity is one of revenge against the teachers who murdered his mother. All of his knowledge and skills were acquired through painstaking effort. This effort was tantamount to torture or suicide, and the intense training transformed his personality, which had always loved to make people laugh. As a result, his tolerance for pain and suffering is abnormally high. However, when he's feeling unwell, he can easily lose everything and break down in tears, suggesting a fragile mental state.

Abilities as a Wizard

He's a jack-of-all-trades wizard, but at the same time, he's a jack-of-all-trades master. No matter how hard he tries, he's never quite reached the level of a genius, clearly distinguishing him from those who are naturally gifted. However, thanks to his lifelong training, he is one of the top students in his grade, and even as a second-year student, he is highly regarded for his talent and future potential. This led to him being recruited to the student council. He is also a wielder of the Fourth Demon Sword, "Angustavia."

Nanao Hibiya

A samurai from the east, he has endured brutal experiences, including near-death in battle, and bears scars all over his body. He is currently studying English and speaks in a samurai-like tone, using expressions such as "gozaru." He has a unique condition known as "Pure White," in which his hair turns white when his magical energy circulation increases during combat. When he first enrolled, he was looked down upon for his unusual background and lack of magical ability, but after defeating a monster named Garuda in the arena, his skills were recognized and he became well-known. He is also the wielder of the Seventh Demonic Sword. From the moment he crossed swords with Oliver for the first time, he began to recognize him as a special being. This is not simply affection; deep down, he desires to fight him to the death. This twisted affection causes him to become increasingly close to a deadly battle, which he finds painful.

About his strength within the school

His experience has given him exceptional swordsmanship, and he possesses a unique technique known as "Morotegirinagashi," which allows him to entangle and deflect magic with his sword. As a result, despite only recently enrolling, she is such a talented student that it is said that only the most exceptionally strong students, regardless of year, can compete on equal terms. She began learning magic after enrolling at Kimberley and improved under Oliver's guidance, and by the second half of her second year, she was able to demonstrate power that was unmatched by her peers. She also has a talent for riding a broom, and was able to master a broom that no one else would let her ride. In her first broomstick lesson, despite being an amateur, she displayed overwhelming piloting skills, and despite being a second-year, she was promoted to the senior league and rose to the top of the younger students.

Kati Aalto

A girl with distinctive curly hair, she is an international student from the northern part of the Union. Born into a family of human rights activists, she is a kind-hearted girl who loves all living things. In Kimberley, the lives of magical beasts and demi-humans are disregarded, which pains her deeply. Despite this, she chooses to attend Kimberley and not transfer to another school because she wants to deepen understanding by confronting those with different opinions head-on. Her strength is evident in her determination to uncover the true essence of problems rather than shying away from them. In her second year, she decided to study interspecies communication, and took on a senior as a co-researcher. Despite some twists and turns, she continued her research, and in her third year, she finally succeeded in communicating with all the magical beasts in the school, fully demonstrating the results of her research. She also hopes to be able to treat non-human creatures with healing magic. She is studying anatomy in a hands-on setting under her instructor, and has a wealth of knowledge about the physiology and ecosystems of living things. By analyzing the ecology of living things, she is able to identify the predators at the top of the pyramid in that environment, giving her strengths that other students do not have. Incidentally, she has had feelings for Oliver since her first year.

Michela MacFarlane

She's a girl with distinctive vertically curly hair, nicknamed She-Ra. She's the eldest daughter of the prestigious MacFarlane family in the South, and as a child of an old family, she grew up surrounded by magic. She's also a good friend of Oliver, who shares her background. However, this sense of relief comes from finding someone who shares her situation, but in a negative way, which leaves her with complex emotions. As the daughter of an elf, she has dark brown skin and blonde hair, characteristics not normally found in humans. By releasing the magical energy stored in her womb, her ears also take on the pointed shape characteristic of elves. Due to her high aptitude for magic, inherited from her elven origins, she is able to use powerful spells, even as an inexperienced first-year. Her specialty is lightning, and in the final league of underclassmen, she brilliantly perfected a secret technique that was previously said to be "armchair theory." She has now surpassed the level of an underclassman and is already beyond the level expected of a student, to a level that is described as not just excellent, but abnormal, a kind of genius. In fact, there is no other precedent in the history of the wizarding world for someone to have achieved this technique in their teens. She is truly a person who has achieved such a great feat.

Beat Reston

Although his parents are non-magical, Beat Reston is a hard worker who passed the entrance exam for regular students. Exposed to the unusual environment of Kimberly, he developed a condition known as Reversi. Due to his rare condition, he has been relentlessly harassed since his second year by some students who seek to incorporate his bloodline into their own families. While his magical and magical sword skills are below average, he has studied a wide range of subjects, including engineering and biology, and has attained a level of academic knowledge comparable to that of students from prestigious families. His exceptional knowledge has earned him the respect of even those who normally show no interest in the weak, who personally request his help in magical swordplay. However, because he comes from a normal family, he is unfamiliar with the rules and customs of the magical world. Among the characters, he especially values his friends and team.

Guy Greenwood

He is a tall, short-haired boy from a magical farming family. Because of his farming background, he is skilled in plant-related magic, cultivating magical plants, and dealing with wild magical creatures. He's so good at it that he's the first person in five years to successfully cultivate an endangered plant from seed to fruition in Kimberley, and has been asked to write a paper based on the experience. He's also a skilled cook, and his pound cakes are known throughout the school for their exquisiteness and acclaim. After a certain incident, he felt powerless, and since then, he has been working hard to improve his skills by becoming Kevin's apprentice. Growing up in a housewife-dominated household, he has developed a unique stereotype about farm wives, and believes that younger, quieter women are unsuitable for romance.

Character Summary

Each character has a different background, with different strengths and weaknesses. This is why they seem to build good relationships by cooperating and helping each other. I can't wait to see how they'll perform in the anime! That's all for today. Thank you for reading.
