"Rohan Kishibe Doesn't Move" is a spin-off story narrated by Rohan Kishibe, a character from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 4, "Diamond is Unbreakable." While the series has also been the subject of much discussion as an OVA and live-action drama, this time I'd like to introduce an episode from Volume 2 of the manga, complete with spoilers.
Episode #04: The Mochizuki Family's Moon Viewing Experience
Let's call the Mochizuki family the family of an acquaintance of Kishibe Rohan. The Mochizuki family had a certain superstition: every year, the entire family would spend the "Mid-Autumn Festival" enjoying the moon. This is because every year, a member of the Mochizuki family dies on the day of the harvest moon. However, those who celebrated the harvest moon by viewing it lived longer.
Mochizuki Family Moon Viewing ②
Some of the Mochizuki family members had other commitments, but their father's fierce persuasion led them to enjoy the moon viewing in the garden. Various troubles arose during the viewing, and Grandma nearly died without anyone noticing. However, the moon viewing party ended, and the whole family slept outside. Then, Aki, the eldest daughter, received a phone call. It was from her fiancé.
Mochizuki Family Moon Viewing ③
Aki received a call from her fiancé proposing marriage and sneaked out of the house. However, a rabbit-like being witnessed this and incited hornets to kill Aki. The rabbit-man's role was to inflict death on anyone who broke the rules of the Mochizuki family. However, something unexpected happens that is not good for the Rabbit Man.
Mochizuki Family Moon Viewing ④
Aki's fiancé proposes to her, and after accepting the proposal, Aki is no longer a member of the Mochizuki family in body and mind. He can no longer kill Aki. He has no choice but to kill a nearby rider instead. Having completed his mission, the Rabbit Man decides to return next year for the harvest moon. He returns to the sky, anticipating the arrival of a Mochizuki family member who has forgotten his role.
Episode #07 Monday - Weather - Rain
One rainy Monday, as Kishibe Rohan was about to board a train at the station, he was suddenly bumped into by a series of people walking and using their smartphones. Thinking something was strange, Kishibe questioned the man who nearly bumped into him. However, before he could hear his answer, another person bumped into him, throwing Kishibe onto the tracks. The man who nearly bumped into Kishibe reached out to help, but Kishibe, believing he was being attacked, could not trust the man. However, the man was also pushed onto the tracks by someone else.
Monday - Weather - Rain ②
Rohan Kishibe uses his Heaven's Door ability to help the man and read his information. He realizes that the man is not an enemy, but he also doesn't know his true enemy's abilities or motives. The man then tells him that people carrying cell phones have been bumping into him since the afternoon. A station employee arrives and offers to help the two, but the employee and many other people are pushed onto the tracks one after another.
Monday - Weather - Rain ③
One after another, passengers are thrown onto the tracks. When they realize that the man they were trying to reach is the one they are heading for, Rohan Kishibe concludes that he is the one causing this phenomenon. The root of all this is a small insect called "Lorenzinha" that nests in the integrated circuit of cell phones. Lorenzinha is a creature that targets organisms with chronic heart conditions and feeds on their bioelectric currents. Lorenzinha detects and gathers targets within smartphones, and its effects extend to those who own smartphones.
Monday - Weather - Rain ④
Rohan Kishibe uses his Heaven's Door ability to instruct station staff to crash a truck into the crossing and stop the train, saving the people at the scene. However, he is unable to save the man surrounded by Lorenzinha. He is unable to attend the meeting and has to return home.
Episode #08 D・N・A
One day, Rohan Kishibe is called by Yukako Yamagishi, who introduces him to a woman named Mai Katahira, an acquaintance of Yukako's mother. Mai lost her newlywed husband in an accident 15 years ago. Due to her parents and age, Mai received sperm from a sperm bank and gave birth to a girl named Mao. However, Mao was a very unusual girl.
D・N・A②
Mao was a strange girl who only spoke upside down, never made any noise with her footsteps, had a tail on her butt, and her feet would get damp when she stood. Furthermore, when someone touched her tail, her skin would turn camouflaged. Yukako wanted to make Mao normal, so she asked Rohan Kishibe for help. When Rohan Kishibe looked at Mao with the power of Heaven's Door, he discovered that the tail wasn't genetic, but a kind of Stand ability. However, he wasn't interested in it to begin with, and Heaven's Door isn't a Stand that can heal. It wasn't causing any trouble to anyone. Rohan Kishibe refused. Mao might be bullied. But he refused.
D・N・A③
Mai thinks Kishibe Rohan has a point and backs down, but Yukako reveals that the information written by Heaven's Door's power contained information about her father. At the time of the sperm bank, her father was living in Yamagata and was 30 years old. Among his physical characteristics was a scar on one side of his forehead.
D・N・A④
Later, Mai notices that a man getting off the Syama Line, which connects Yamagata and S City, matches the physical characteristics Yukako had described. Furthermore, his lower eyelashes and wet foot gait match those of her daughter. She instinctively tails the man, but his destination is a place Mai knows well: the park where Mao always plays. The man then grabs Mao while she's playing on the playground equipment and attempts to drive off in a taxi.
D・N・A⑤
Mai frantically tries to get Mao back, but the man takes her, not her own son. Mai doesn't notice because Mao's camouflage is a prank. The man calls himself Hana Ozawa. He's divorced from his wife and comes to visit his son, who attends the same nursery school as Mao, once or twice a week. Furthermore, Hana Ozawa has died 15 years ago and returned. Her mannerisms and speech patterns are strikingly similar to those of Mai's husband, who died 15 years ago. Furthermore, his occupation is that of a lawyer who recently passed the bar exam, the same as Mai's husband.
D・N・A⑥
Later, Rohan Kishibe learns from Yukako that Mai and Hana Ozawa, the sperm bank donor, have married. Yukako deduces that this was "Mao's plot." Upon hearing this, Kishibe Rohan exclaimed in shock, "I'm certainly surprised. So that's how it is..."
Episode #09 The Run
After suffering a serious injury to his right hand, Kishibe Rohan, unusually, reflected on his actions. This was the same Kishibe Rohan who had never shown any remorse or remorse for anything he'd done. In one episode, he deeply regretted having overlooked the red line he should not have crossed and gotten himself into trouble.
The Run 2
After being scouted in Harajuku, young man Yoma Hashimoto was given small roles in magazines and movies, and his agent told him to get in shape. From there, Yoma poured all his energy into his fitness, escalating his behavior to the point where he not only touched his girlfriend's money, but even built a cement bouldering facility in her rental apartment.
The Run 3
One day, Rohan Kishibe and Yoma were competing in a challenge. The first person to hit the stop button after reaching a maximum speed of 25 km/h on a treadmill won. This was actually their second challenge. In the first, Rohan Kishibe won by hitting the table, causing the remote to tip in a favorable position. In the second challenge, to ensure fairness, they threw dumbbells through the gym's window, creating a hole. The winner fell to their death from an eight-story building. Hashimoto Youma's body was covered in muscles incomparable to his previous ones.
The Run ④
Faced by the machine's abnormality, Kishibe Rohan tried to shut it off with a switch, but Youma stopped him and broke all but two of his fingers, which were still able to press the buttons. Using Heaven's Door, Kishibe Rohan read Youma's inner workings and discovered that he was a ruthless killer of anyone who got in the way of his training, having murdered five people in the past. Realizing that Youma was serious and not afraid to even kill, Kishibe Rohan became anxious. Then, as they reached a speed of 25 km/h, a fight broke out over the remote control.
The Run ⑤
It was Youma who took the remote control. However, using Heaven's Door's power to force the button on Kishibe Rohan's machine, Youma was thrown out of the building. Kishibe Rohan admitted defeat, but Youma may not have thought the same. And Yoma, who was thrown out of the building, probably wasn't dead. If he looked down and looked outside, he'd be killed this time. With that in mind, Kishibe Rohan only considered running away (the Run). His true identity was a man who had become the incarnation of Hermes, the god of muscles. Approaching him was a mistake.
"Rohan Kishibe Doesn't Move" Episode Spoilers Part 2 Summary
Here are spoilers for the episodes that appear in Volume 2 of "Rohan Kishibe Doesn't Move." Personally, I found the Run episode particularly memorable. It was refreshing to see the selfish and egotistical Kishibe Rohan unusually depressed and remorseful.
