"Asobi Asobase" is an anime that began airing in July 2018, and is based on the original work by Suzukawa Rin. It is currently being serialized in Young Animal, published by Hakusensha, and is receiving rave reviews. On the surface, it is a yuri-esque slice-of-life story featuring cute girls, but once you open it up, it's full of surreal gags, dirty jokes, awful facial expressions, and dark humor, making it a very controversial work in a good way. In this article, we'll be introducing some of the games that appear in Asobi Asobase that look fun or that caught our eye!

A brief introduction to the contents of Asobi Asobase

The Three OP Swindlers

The story centers around the "Playboy Research Club," a group of three beautiful middle school girls, each with their own unique characteristics. Although they look like beautiful girls, they are all different kinds of "idiots" on the inside, and contrary to their cute appearances, they engage in hardcore gags, facial expressions, dirty jokes, and black humor. Since it is supposedly a club that studies games, a few games do appear in the story, but basically the story revolves around the three of them messing around with things that don't really make sense. Anyway, don't be fooled by the pictures, because the content is a very high-level gag comedy (lol)

Game 1: Look This Way, Look That Way

I'm sure everyone has played this when they were little, right? This is a game that you probably won't get to play as an adult, but why not go back to your childhood and give it a try? I've been seriously playing with the manager of Sunohara-sou lately (in a commercial)

Game 2: Tapping the gap between your fingers

I don't know the official name, but I'm sure many of you have played this before. Thinking about it now, I don't know what I was trying to achieve by taking such a risky approach, but I guess it gave me a sense of superiority to do it quickly. If you do try it, be careful not to injure yourself so that your fingers don't breathe.

Game 3 Boys' School☆Battle Third Edition

A card game that is popular in the Asobi Aso world, probably with Yu-Gi-Oh-like rules. It must be really fun since it's been released up to the third edition. The images are completely silly, and there's also a Blue-Eyes Yankee, which is clearly a knock-off of Blue-Eyes White Dragon, so it looks surprisingly fun, and I'm curious about it (lol)

Game 4: Hagoita Tennis

In the story, the game didn't last even a single rally, but it looked like a lot of fun thanks to the Hanebado effect. Regular tennis would have been fine, but the fact that they chose to use a shuttlecock piqued my interest.

Game 5: One, two, three ... I think the way of doing it varies depending on the region, but issenode, issenose, yubisuma~ are the most common? It's a game that makes you want to try it once in a while.

Game 6: Skipping shoes

It's a game where you take a running start and throw your shoes as far as possible. I'm sure you've all done this before, too. Like Olivia, you probably tried using a swing and were desperate to increase your jump distance. Don't even make the mistake of jumping off your bike and knocking your shoes off. Absolutely not. You'll break a compound fracture.

Game 7: Hide and seek alone

I've never played this, but I'm really interested. But anyway, the preparation is a pain, and it's really scary (lol). But it would be really fun to play this in an abandoned building or something. I'd like to try it once before I die.

Game 8: Leading Question Game

Olivia challenges Aozora-san

This looks fun, doesn't it? It's a game where you're given a topic, you answer it with a yes or no, and you have to guess what the question is about. In the story, the topic was why the other person spoke to you, and you were completely seen through.

Game 9: Pulling out the radish

It was pretty common in my area, so I thought it was a national game, but it's actually a local game. The rules are simple: you sit in a line against the wall with your arms folded, and if the demon pulls your legs and you get pulled out, you lose, but for some reason it gets really exciting. When I was a kid, there was no one who betrayed people like Olivia (lol)

Game #10 Bacteria GO!

I'm really curious about this, or rather, I want to try it! It's a thing that says you can see germs through the app, and it's not virtual, but you can detect and see the germs that are really there! If something like this existed, wouldn't even people who aren't good at cleaning become obsessive-compulsive? I'd love to see it developed to help keep things clean, but you might end up seeing things you don't want to see (lol)

Game 11: Super Danger Sugoroku

A terrifying sugoroku game with a penalty written on every square (Hanako's own creation) The content is really intense, so I want to collect them to make handsome guys and girls feel pain (Hanako's way of thinking) I'm just kidding, but I think it's thrilling and very fun (lol)

Game 12: Passing letters

We used to pass around letters about silly things in the classroom a lot. Looking back, it was all stuff we could have talked about during breaks. But it must have been fun because it was such a painful time during class. Sadly, nowadays we don't pass around letters, we just talk about it in a group chat... It's great that it's becoming more convenient, but it's also a little sad these days (lol)

Game 13: Forbidden Word Game

This is a game where you hold up a piece of paper with no written content over your head, and if you can get the other person to say the word you hold up, you win. I've played something similar before, but it's a pretty difficult game because people suddenly stop talking. If you have someone with some solid pressure, it goes smoothly and becomes a really fun game, so I'd like to try it.

Summary of gameplay introduction!

Play, play, play, the three main characters

As I was introducing it like this, I realized that the Asobase Research Club is also doing proper research on play, after all (lol). Because other things are so prominent, the original main topic, play, tends to be overshadowed, but when I dug deeper, I found that there were quite a lot of fun games. These are all games that you won't have many opportunities to play as you become an adult, but if you have children, it might be worth trying them out with your kids, or if you're a boy or girl at heart, it might be worth trying out seriously with your friends (lol). So, that was an introduction to the games we played today!
