Megaton-Class Musashi is a game and anime based on a completely new IP from LEVEL5, released and aired in 2021. It was a disappointingly underwhelming new release from LEVEL5, but the game, while receiving mixed reviews, is still considered a good work. The anime, while initially lackluster, undoubtedly delivered a thrilling second half, making it an undeniably entertaining robot anime! With the second season starting soon, I'd like to introduce the rogue robots piloted by the main characters!
Megaton-Class Rogue Musashi
The Megaton-Class Rogue, dubbed humanity's ultimate weapon, is the face of this series. It's also the protagonist's robot. The pilots are Yamato Ichidaiji, Ryugo Hijikata, and Hikaru Asami, piloting Units 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Initially, the unit utilized a combination system that harnessed the energy of free fall from the air, but this system was later deemed unnecessary, and a new piloting system was developed that allowed for single-seat operation. This all-purpose unit, capable of everything from shooting to melee combat, displays its heroic exploits thanks to its numerous special moves and pilot Yamato's extraordinary ingenuity.
About Musashi
While the name likely derives from Miyamoto Musashi, its meaning takes on a slightly different meaning in robot anime. The fact that Units 1, 2, and 3 must combine at first is undoubtedly a nod to Getter Robo, but that nod makes Musashi quite ominous. I worry that it might one day become a megaton-class Benkei. However, its performance in the series, including its piloting abilities, makes it a powerful, righteous ace from start to finish.
Megaton-Class Rogue Arthur
The Rogue features a knight-like appearance and a horse-like quadrupedal gait. It is piloted by Amemiya Reiji. Reiji's telekinetic powers were awakened by the Draktor invasion, allowing him to pilot the Rogue alone using a system only available to him. However, later, almost all Megaton-class Rogues became solo pilots. Its ground mobility and relatively longer firing range compared to the Musashi make it an excellent match for the Musashi.
About Arthur
The design is reminiscent of the mecha from Danball Senki and the Gundam Kimaris Trooper. Pilot Reiji Amemiya looks somewhat like something out of a Reiji Matsumoto work. He initially refuses to fight, but is forced to pilot it by his abusive parents, a fact that could be said to be reminiscent of Evangelion. Since it's a horse-shaped mecha, it's possible that he'll eventually have someone ride on its back and use it for combined attacks.
Megaton-Class Rogue Maximus
The Rogue exhibits incredible mobility when two pilots alternate their movements in perfect time, but it's also quite a sensitive rogue that requires coordinated effort to operate. Development and pilot selection initially proved difficult, and Maximus only piloted it midway through the game. When it first appeared, the pilots were Jun Kirishima and Ginta Ibushi, but later Momoka Saotome took over from Ibushi. Despite their bitter rivalry, Jun and Momoka showed excellent teamwork in battle.
About Maximus
Jun Kirishima, the pilot, has a cheeky personality. At first, he shows signs of being interested in an adult man (his teacher, Hakamada). Later in the story, he becomes interested in Reiji Amemiya, who was forced to pilot the Rogue by his abusive parents. This suggests that the character is modeled after the red guy from Eva. In the first season, the enemy's overwhelming numbers overwhelmed the defense line, and Momoka remained on the battlefield to maintain the front line so she could make an emergency escape. This led to an unexpected outcome...
Megaton-Class Rogue Sparkman
This aircraft was hastily created after Kindaichi, who had been scouted by a mechanic, discovered its design data. It's a rogue capable of controlling electrical energy and aerial combat using a flight unit. Since Musashi was able to pilot it alone, Teru took over as pilot. Also, when Teru was unable to deploy, Reiji piloted it instead.
About Sparkman
Commander Minami's message left a stronger impression than the image of Teru's new electricity-controlling aircraft. Commander Minami was an alien who couldn't keep up with the Dracter's methods and sided with Earth alone. When the Commander was killed, her blood was blue, and the cockpit crew realized she was an alien. Speaking of blue-blooded aliens, they were RahXephon. RahXephon is also known as Blue Friend. Teru and Commander Minami weren't friends, but it was still a shocking scene.
Megaton-Class Rogue Gaudia
Like Sparkman, this Rogue was built based on design data discovered by Kindaichi, and is piloted by Ryugo Hijikata. This rogue machine excels in power and durability, utilizing its tough body for attacking and crushing powerful foes.
About Gaudia
This machine is piloted by Ryugo in the latter half of the story. Ryugo is a tough-looking, burly delinquent, but his true personality is that of a timid, obedient man who can easily handle situations. He's an honor student who cooperates with his teammates, carries out his duties, and contributes to defeating powerful enemies, giving him his moments to shine. However, since it only appears in the latter half of the story, it doesn't see many active roles. Looking forward to the second season.
Megaton-Class Rogue Musashi-Oh
A rogue similar to the Musashi, created by Victor, who was operating outside of Ixia at the end of the century, using stolen design data. It appears in the final episode, concluding the first season with a deal with Ashem.
About Musashi-Oh
It is likely a prototype of the Musashi. The "Oh" in Musashi-Oh is thought to be the "Oh" in the O Gundam. Originally, the Musashi could only be operated by utilizing a high-altitude combination mechanism and could only be piloted by three people, but it is unknown how the Musashi-Oh performs in this regard. Ashem proposes a deal with a band of thieves living like orphans in a harsh environment. Ashem herself, initially a clumsy princess, becomes mentally stronger after losing her important guardian. This storyline, reminiscent of Iron-Blooded Orphans, is reminiscent of Iron-Blooded Orphans.
[Megaton-Class Musashi] Summary of Rogues
I've put together a summary of the Rogues who appear in Megaton-Class Musashi. Perhaps because the story and battle scenes don't quite capture the feel of a robot anime, the show doesn't build up much excitement. However, watching it to the end is incredibly entertaining. I highly recommend watching the first season until the very end, and I'm excited for what's to come in the second season. The mecha battle scenes are also impressive and packed with highlights, so this is a show I really hope gets even more exciting. You can watch all episodes now on YouTube! Be sure to check it out and get excited!
