After six years, Masamune-kun's Revenge, which aired in 2017, will return as a new series in spring 2023. I'm sure there are many people who never thought a sequel would be broadcast. The previous series ended without a conclusion, so this is very good news for those who were hoping to watch the rest of the anime. Do you remember that in this work, in addition to Adagaki Aki, there was also a heroine named Koiwai Yoshino? She is a character who plays a very important role in the story, but I'm sure many people have forgotten about her. In this article, I would like to introduce Koiwai Yoshino! Please be aware that this may contain spoilers for those who are not familiar with the original work!

First: What is the story?

Eight years ago, Masamune Hayase, who was a fat and bullied child, planned to take revenge on Aki Adagaki, a young lady who had dumped him and nicknamed him "pig's foot". He lost a lot of weight through dieting and strength training and became a handsome man, even changing his surname to his grandfather's and returning to his hometown under the name of Masamune Makabe. Now a completely different person from before, Masamune often uses the "dead or love strategy" to make Aki fall in love with him and then dump her in the best way possible. However, Aki's attendant, Yoshino Koiwai, finds out about his past. It seemed like his plan would fail, but she agreed to help him get revenge on Aki. What will be the outcome of the revenge!?

Another heroine: Yoshino Koiwai

It is true that Aki Adagaki is the main heroine, but another person named Yoshino Koiwai is also indispensable to the story. Perhaps it is better to position her as a sub-heroine. She is petite at 148cm tall, has a cute behavior like a small animal, and likes sweet and soft foods. She is a high school girl who attends the same high school as the main character Masamune Makabe, and is the person closest to Aki Adagaki in the class. Even though they are close, they are not friends, but rather seem to have a hierarchical relationship, like that of a senior and junior in sports. She is always with Aki, and Aki always uses her as a errand boy, making her go out to buy large amounts of lunch and snacks. Moreover, every time she goes out to buy them, Aki complains, and she is treated very unfairly. Masamune describes her as "like Cinderella being bullied by her wicked stepmother."

Why is there a hierarchical relationship?

The Koiwai family was born into a family that has served the Adagaki family as a steward for generations. Therefore, Yoshino herself has served Aki since she was a child, and this relationship continues even now that she is a high school student. In other words, Yoshino is a servant to Aki. It's not a relationship that was created after entering high school, but rather it was decided by the family she was born into. Although it can't be helped since you can't choose which family you're born into, it must be difficult to have to serve someone from an early age.

About Koiwai Yoshino's personality

You might think that she has a hard time being pushed around by Aki's selfishness and has no time to relax, but in fact, she can be calculating and show a dark side behind the scenes. Behind the scenes, she is cooperative with Masamune's revenge, and thinks that there is an advantage in it if it improves Aki's personality, so she actively tries to cooperate. Since she served Aki from a young age, she is also a person who knows Masamune when he was fat as a child.

The true identity of hardworking Koiwai Yoshino is... (Spoiler Alert!)

Yoshino, who cooperates with Masamune in his quest for revenge against Akihime, appears to be a good person from the outside, but in fact it was Yoshino, not Akihime, who cursed and dumped Masamune. In other words, the real culprit was Yoshino. When Akihime was sick in bed and Masamune came to visit her, Yoshino disguised herself as Akihime, approached him, and cursed him out. The reason she did such a thing was, frankly, jealousy. She was jealous of Akihime and Masamune's closeness, and thought that by separating them from Masamune, Yoshino would turn her attention to her. However, as a result, Aihime's personality changed drastically, and Yoshino found herself at her mercy, leading Yoshino to deeply regret what she had done.

Summary of introduction to Koiwai Yoshino

Since Yoshino is a character who is involved in important parts of the story, many people feel that she is more of a heroine than Aihime. Also, despite being the mastermind behind the protagonist's downfall, she is a very popular character. There is something about her cute appearance and behavior that makes her hard to hate. I'm looking forward to seeing what she'll do in the new series!
