"A Lonely Life in XX" is a four-panel manga currently being serialized in Dengeki Comics NEXT. It was written by Katsuwo, who is also known for "Mitsuboshi Colors." It's been decided that an anime adaptation of the same title will be released in 2019, and the work is currently garnering a lot of attention. The protagonist, Ichiri Bocchi (Hitori Bocchi), is extremely shy and only made one friend in elementary school, Yahara Kai (Yawaraka Kai). The two become separated when they graduate from elementary school. So, he makes a promise with Kai that if he doesn't make friends with everyone in his class by the time they graduate from middle school, they'll break up. Will Bocchi be able to make friends when he enters middle school? This time, we'll be focusing on the attractiveness of the characters in "A Lonely Life in XX" and introducing our own rankings.
10th Place: Yamada Hanako
Source: A Lonely Life ©KADOKAWA CORPORATION
A female student who is a friend of Honjo Al and a member of the tennis club. She has flowing bangs and semi-long hair tied in two ponytails. She has a gentle demeanor. When Ichiri Bocchi was worried about making new friends, Hanako's friend Al said, "You should just go with Hana-chan. She'll be a piece of cake." Hanako seems to be a bit slow at times, and when Al mistook her for his school uniform and came to school dressed entirely in elementary school clothes, she saw Al and mistook him for his sister.
9th Place: Teruyo Oshie (I'm Teachin' You)
Source: A Lonely Life ©KADOKAWA CORPORATION
Teruyo Oshie is the homeroom teacher of Ichiri Bocchi, the protagonist of "A Lonely Life." Students usually call her "Teru-chan" and seem to be fond of her, and while she seems happy about it, she often replies, "Call me Sensei, please." However, she seems to be afraid of Sunao Nako, who looks like the epitome of a delinquent, and when she is in front of Sunao, she bows deeply and says, "Good morning, Sunao-san!" Furthermore, when Nako calls her Sensei, she hides her face with her bag, saying, "S-Sensei sounds arrogant, so it's okay to just use my last name!" According to Teruyo, "I don't like scary people." When Bocchi was absent from school and had to rely on Nako to deliver some handouts, she became so scared of Nako that she even considered resigning. Her weak-willed side is also what makes her a charming character.
8th Place: Ojousamayo
Source: A Lonely Life ©KADOKAWA CORPORATION
A classmate from a faraway place. She's such a rich lady that she even gets a ride to school. This young lady, Saki Mayo, is the daughter of a company president, and her parents are always overseas for work. One day, Ichiri Bocchi drops a piece of paper, and Mayo picks it up and hands it back to him. When Bocchi says, "Oh, thank you, thank you...thanks!", she responds with great interest, "What does 'thanks' mean!?" Furthermore, when Bocchi wants to be with his friends after being reassigned to a different class, she responds, "Oh, then why don't you just buy it? School," showing how out of touch she is with the world.
7th Place: Yawara Kai (Yawaraka Kai)
Source: A lonely life ©KADOKAWA CORPORATION
Ichiri Bocchi's childhood friend. She attends a different private junior high school than Bocchi. Her hair is slightly longer than a bob, and she has a large, swollen hair growing from the top of her head. As Bocchi is extremely shy, Kai thinks of Bocchi and tearfully promises him that if he doesn't make friends with everyone in his class by the time they graduate from middle school, they will be cut off. At the time, he also gives him a small stuffed toy called the Ganbaru Fairy. Thanks to this promise, Bocchi seems to be able to actively work hard to make friends in order to make up with Kai. He seems to be the type of person who sticks to his promises, and even when they bump into each other at a karaoke bar after entering middle school, he tries not to talk to Bocchi. Just like Bocchi, Kai sometimes vomits when he is happy.
6th Place: Minagawa Rau
Source: A Lonely Life ©KADOKAWA CORPORATION
A classmate of Ichiri Bocchi. She is the most popular girl in the class, a cheerful girl who laughs a lot. She wears her bangs slicked back, and her long hair is tied in two ponytails and swept back. Her trademark is the eye mask she always wears on her forehead. When Bocchi was trying to make Sunao Nako laugh, she casually said something like a proverb, "Funny things are born in fun places." She didn't make fun of Bocchi's strange behavior, and there were times when she would say, "What are you pretending to be? That's funny," and do the same thing along with him. As the choir competition approached, it was revealed that she has a loud voice but is tone-deaf. Even when it was pointed out to her that she was tone-deaf, she replied, "I know. But music is about enjoying the sound, right? I may be tone-deaf, but I'm having fun, so I get 100 points." She seems like a proverb maker. Also, after Nuto Kaori, who had been her good friend since elementary school, started skipping school, she tried to be the laughsiest person in the class so that Kaori wouldn't feel anxious whenever she came to school, and to make the class more enjoyable.
5th Place: Kurai Kako
Source: A Lonely Life ©KADOKAWA CORPORATION
She is the discipline committee member for Ichiri Bocchi's class. She has bob-length hair and wears a headband. She seems to enjoy reading, and can often be seen quietly reading a book by herself. She also seems to enjoy watching movies. Although she appears to be a warm and gentle person, she is surprisingly strict. When Bocchi wasn't wearing a ribbon tie, she got angry and said, "Hey Ichiri! What's with that sloppy outfit!" Kako seems to keep a close eye on her classmates, and once confided that she was disappointed and angry when Bocchi, who usually doesn't wear his uniform casually, wasn't wearing a ribbon tie. She doesn't make friends as a rule, and despite Bocchi's repeated attempts to get close to her, it seems they haven't become friends. Instead, it seems they have become rivals. Kako sometimes shows a absent-minded side, and this contrast is what makes her such a charming character.
4th Place: Sotoka Rakita
Source: A lonely life ©KADOKAWA CORPORATION
A classmate from Ichiri Bocchi. Apparently, he came all alone from overseas. Apparently, Sotoka Rakita mistook Bocchi for a ninja and became his apprentice. He calls Bocchi "master." He has blonde hair, blue eyes, and an incredible figure, attracting attention from students outside his class. He's friendly and affectionate, and is often seen hugging Bocchi as soon as he spots him, then picking him up. He's a hard-working student, and he'll practice his interjections before going to karaoke, and he even worked behind the scenes to be able to fold the origami shuriken Bocchi gave him.
3rd Place: Honjo Aru
Source: A Lonely Life ©KADOKAWA CORPORATION
Honjo Aru is the vice-president of Ichiri Bocchi's class. He is the second friend Bocchi has made since entering junior high school. Al has long hair that he wears in a ponytail and holds it back with a scrunchie. He's a member of the tennis club, but doesn't seem to particularly like tennis. He sometimes skips. It seems that Al has his own theme song, which he sometimes sings: "Don't give up, Al, shine Al, Al on top of the aluminum can." The title is "Don't give up, Al, shine Al." He calls himself "the world's vice-chairman." He's a reliable and kind vice-chairman, but he can also be a bit clumsy and absent-minded. His classmate, Sunao Naoya, often calls him "a disappointment." Al seems to have been a disappointment since he was a child, and having overcome many failures, he seems to have acquired the composure to not be shaken by small failures. However, he also shows a classic tsundere side.
2nd Place: Ichiri Bocchi (Hitori Bocchi)
Source: Hitori Bocchi no XX Seikatsu ©KADOKAWA CORPORATION
The protagonist of "Hitori Bocchi no XX Seikatsu," a junior high school student, has long black hair. He tried to apply to the same private junior high school as Kai Yahara, his only friend from elementary school, but failed the interview. His favorite food is natto rice, but he prefers it crushed, and he's the type who saves mustard because he doesn't want to waste it. He seems to get cramps in his legs if he exerts too much force, and when he tried to talk to someone for the first time after entering school, his leg cramped up just before he could speak.
1st Place: Sunao Nako
Source: A lonely life ©KADOKAWA CORPORATION
Ichiri Bocchi's classmate. Bocchi's first friend since entering junior high school. She has a slightly sullen look in her eyes, and her charming feature is her teardrop mole. She has blonde hair, is often seen sucking on candy, and apparently refuses to wear the designated ribbon ties, giving her a delinquent-like impression. She prefers long sleeves, often creating cute sleeves. She seems to be bad at studying and sports, but is good at cooking. She's actually ambidextrous. She dislikes getting up early. Sunao Nako's weakness is water. She's afraid of it and can't swim. While she may appear cool and delinquent, she often intimidates her homeroom teacher and classmates without even realizing it. Her classmate, Honjo Aru, says she "gives off an aura that tells people not to talk to her." However, she's a kind girl inside. She seems to change personality in her emails, often using emoticons like "Sweet things (>ω<) I hate spicy things (>ω<) =3."
