Shirogane are individuals who have overcome the Zonaha disease by drinking the elixir "Water of Life." In exchange for gaining powerful regenerative abilities, their minds are dominated by a desire for revenge against the "automatons." They only age once every five years and are essentially immortal, but they will die if a vital part of their body is destroyed all at once, such as by excessive bleeding. In order to fight against the automatons of the Midnight Circus, each Shirogane uses a combat doll called a "Suspension Puppet."
