"We will settle your unrequited grudges."
"Hell Communication" is an urban legend that permeates the world of Hell Girl. What exactly is this website that claims to send your hated enemies to Hell? Today, we'll explain the system behind Hell Communication.
What is Hell Girl?
Hell Girl is an anime series that first aired in 2005, with four seasons airing to date. While the themes of the series are fantasy, horror, and suspense, it also incorporates a lot of contemporary social satire, making it a popular series even more than 10 years after its first broadcast.
What's it about?
Using "Hell Communication," a technique that can send those who harbor grudges to Hell, people with various grudges and hatred are sent there. This work depicts the reasons why people hold grudges, the circumstances that lead to them, and the human condition. While the story is largely about good triumphing over evil, there are also episodes of resentment and misunderstandings, and these unsavory episodes are a major part of Hell Girl's appeal.
First, access Hell Communication
This site is only accessible to those with a grudge, and can only be accessed at midnight. Enter the name of the person you want to avenge and click, and Hell Girl Enma Ai will appear. This site is connected to the PC in Enma Ai's room in a place called Twilight Village.
Untie the straw doll's strings to complete the contract
When Enma Ai appears, you will be handed a straw doll. Untie the red string attached to the doll to complete the contract, and the person you are hating will be swiftly banished to Hell. This straw doll is a transformed version of Enma Ai's companion.
Send the target to Hell with Hell-Flowing
After the client pulls the strings, Enma Ai and the Three Straws first inflict pain similar to that suffered by the client, gradually increasing the intensity of the pain until the target's life is taken. This Hell Flow performance is very entertaining as it sometimes becomes comical and involves silly acts in a serious atmosphere, and is affectionately known as Hell Sketch by fans.
Request Completed
"I will sweep this grudge away to Hell."
At the end of the Hell Slaying ritual, the target is placed in a small boat, rowed by Enma Ai, and taken directly to Hell, passing through a large torii gate. No matter how much the target cries or screams, no matter how unreasonable their hatred, they cannot resist.
The Price of Using Hell Communication
"If you curse someone, you'll dig two holes." "But that's after you die."
Of course, there's a price to paying for sending someone to hell. The person who requested the service will end up in hell after they die. A permanent seal of the contract will then be engraved on their chest. By the way, Hell Communications can only be sent to one person at a time, so if there are multiple people they hate, they will have to choose one from among them.
The History of Hell Communication
Hell Communication has existed since the Edo period. In the Showa era, before the widespread use of the internet, letters were sent to addresses that appeared in blank spaces in newspapers. Even earlier, before the Edo period, a method was also used: writing the target's name on a votive tablet called a Hell Ema and offering it at a shrine.
Special Patterns for Refusing Requests
If the target is already deceased or an illusion, the request may be abandoned. Enma Ai also has some discretion, so she may refuse a request if she dislikes the request or try to stop pulling the strings. Basically, Hell Girl's duty is to accept any request, no matter how evil the opponent, but occasionally things like this happen.
An Evolving System
In the fourth season, "Hell Girl: Yoi no Kakera," if you make a contract with Michiru Sagae, who becomes Hell Girl at the end of the story, you exchange emails before deciding whether to accept the request.
Hell Communication Summary!
You can send your hated enemy to Hell, but you'll also go to Hell after you die. Are you willing to go to such lengths to get revenge? This psychological dimension is at the heart of the story. In some cases, the client's life doesn't improve even after their grudge is resolved, or even worse. These aspects are also one of the highlights of this work, so if you're interested, be sure to check it out.
