Having dismissed the incident as minor, Kawai is deeply shocked and is instructed by Igazaki (played by Tsuyoshi Muro) to take a rest. Fuji quickly teams up with Igazaki to tackle the case, but realizes how important Kawai is to Fuji as well. However, words from Miyahara and Fuji help Kawai recover. Kawai then returns to his duties and saves some children by throwing himself in the way of an approaching car. The car stopped just in time, and Kawai only suffered a scratch, but Fuji and Igazaki appeared terrified. In fact, Fuji and Igazaki had a past together. That past involved a female police officer who was Fuji's classmate and Igazaki's former partner.

Drama Episode 7 Part 2

While heading to the hospital with Igazaki, Kawai hears from Igazaki's wife that he resembles a police officer named Sakura Shiori. When Kawai asks Igazaki about it, he learns that Sakura Shiori, a colleague of Fuji's who Igazaki was once paired with, was involved in a hit-and-run accident and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. However, the evidence was washed away by rain, and the case remains unsolved. Later, as part of his portrait training, Kawai is asked by Gen to draw a portrait of a certain person based on the testimony of a senior colleague who is currently on parental leave. The suspect was a suspect in a case known as the "Guardian Angel," and he had been staring intently at a rookie female police officer. The sketch ultimately didn't work, but Kawai later accidentally overheard a conversation between Minamoto and Yamada. They revealed that Fuji had been transferred to the police station to use Kawai, who resembled Shiori Sakura, as a decoy.

Hakodume Drama Synopsis Episode 8 Spoilers

Drama Episode 8

Kawai learns from Miyahara about a hit-and-run incident three years ago. Because the evidence in that case was washed away by rain, the only clue was the white truck Igazaki witnessed. Igazaki suspects that the culprit is the "guardian angel," but Fuji is the only one who believes it to the end. It is almost certain that Fuji's purpose in being transferred was to use Kawai as a decoy to lure out the guardian angel. Later, Fuji and Igazaki, along with members of the Criminal Investigation Division, stake out a restaurant where the owner of an illegal brothel is scheduled to appear. However, Gen and Yamada, who have come on a crucial date, show up, and the restaurant turns into a public execution, with their coworkers watching their embarrassing date. And by some coincidence, Kawai also falls for an insurance solicitation and ends up in the restaurant.

Episode 8 Part 2

Drama Episode 8 Part 2

Although the owner of the illegal sex shop sacrificed the dignity of Gen and Yamada to arrest him, Kawai and Fuji remain somewhat awkward and lackluster. However, the situation suddenly becomes tense when a suspect carrying a gun points it at the suspect at a crime scene. Even so, Fuji refuses to back down and subdues the suspect, pointing his gun at him to protect his colleague and his precious partner. That day, Fuji confesses that he used Kawai as bait to capture the guardian angel. Upon learning Fuji's true feelings, Kawai encourages him, saying he will strive to become a police officer who is glad to have been paired with him. Later, Kawai again draws a portrait of the guardian angel, which looks exactly like the one Igazaki had seen before. Then, a man resembling the sketch appears at the neighboring Murakawa Police Station.

Hakodume Drama Episode 9 Spoilers

Episode 9

One week after the sketches were distributed within the police department, there was no progress on the case. While working and assisting Gen and Fuji with the forensics, an eyewitness finally gives testimony that the sketch matches. The man's name is Kimura Yoshinori, and he is the "guardian angel" himself, who matches Igazaki's memories. Kimura had abandoned his wife and child due to debt, and his daughter had previously worked for the police. When she first started working there, she resembled both Sakura and Kawai. It is also discovered that the white pickup truck belonging to the farm where Kimura works had evaded the investigation, and investigators separately pursue the president and Kimura.

Episode 9 Part 2

Drama Episode 9 Part 2

According to the president, Kimura testified that he crashed his light truck into a fence and scrapped it. Not wanting the police's daughter to find out, he didn't report it to the police and scrapped the truck himself, making Kimura the likely culprit. Meanwhile, Kawai bumps into his guardian angel, Kimura. While both parties are flustered, they regain their composure through communication with Fuji and manage to get Kimura to reveal the location of the crashed vehicle. Evidence of a hit-and-run is found in the crashed vehicle, but Kimura disappears, leaving behind a note hinting at suicide.

Episode 9, Part 3

Drama Episode 9, Part 3

However, Igazaki guessed the suicide location and, relying on his intuition, found Kimura, successfully apprehending him just before his suicide attempt. Although the case was solved, Sakura Shiori had already decided to retire from the police force. As Sakura was about to submit her retirement application, Kawai began to verbally abuse Fuji through the door, angering Sakura. Hearing this, she withdrew her retirement plan and resolved to return to work after undergoing rehabilitation. Kawai continued to work at the police box as a police officer and Fuji's partner.
