With a young girl named Pearl joining the team, the battle of wits with the gods begins.

Author: Kei Sazane

The author is Kei Sazane. He is a male author who has been writing professionally since around 2007. A native of Kanagawa Prefecture, I've loved games, manga, and novels since I was a child. Mystery novels were particularly popular, and the worldview of mystery novels had a major influence on the style of "God Hungers for Games." I started writing novels by hand in my freshman year of college, and began writing on the computer in my sophomore year. I once won an honorable mention in the Fantasia Novel Award, and as a result, I also serve as a judge for the Fantasia Grand Prize.

I'm also focusing on illustrations

While working as a light novel author, I've also begun working on illustrations. At first, she had no knowledge or skills in illustration, but she gradually learned through practice. Her desire to convey her ideas to editors and illustrators in an easy-to-understand way from an artist's perspective led her to want to draw illustrations herself. It's true that communicating verbally and actually drawing an illustration can make a big difference in how easily your message is conveyed.

Thoughts on her Work

Sasane has previously written fantasy-themed works. "God Hungers for Games." What "Nigate" has in common with his previous works is that the protagonist is strongly aware of mission and destiny. However, he says that this work is not focused on a sense of mission, but is instead based on the pure enjoyment of gaming. He wanted to show the protagonists having fun through playing games. He also says that the work is conscious of the recent boom in "esports." His editor suggested he try writing a story focused on intellectual battles, which inspired him to write this work.

Things you're not good at but like?

Sasane enjoys games, manga, and novels, but says that when it comes to horror movies, "I'm not good at them, but I like them." While he does research horror movies and games online to get a sense of what they're about, he never actually watches or plays them. There's certainly a big difference between doing your research and actually doing it, so I think I can relate to how he feels. Incidentally, Saone also mentioned that if he were to invite friends, he'd like to go to a haunted house, so perhaps one day he'll finally overcome his fear of horror.

Author Summary

Saone Kei is a writer who specializes in fantasy, and this work is a fascinating piece that incorporates elements of intellectual battles into fantasy. He's also actively working on illustrations, expanding his range of activities. I'm sure many of you could relate to his horror-related comments. Be sure to check out Saone's other works! That's all for today. Thank you for reading.
