One of the most memorable scenes in the series is when Claire and her friends venture into the mountains with their new companions. In the mountains, they are confronted by monsters far more powerful than they are. They are clearly superior opponents, and escape is difficult. Madoka, the leader of the group, forces them to "leave one of your companions to die and join the group."
