One of the great joys of an anime adaptation is the addition of voice acting to what was previously just pictures and text. Many people await the anime with a mixture of excitement and anxiety, wondering who will play certain characters and whether the voices will suit them. So, this time, we'll be introducing the voice actors behind "The Story of a Boy from a Village Before the Last Dungeon Living in an Early Town," or "Last Dungeon" for short, before the anime adaptation begins! We'll also be introducing their most notable works!
Miyuri Hanamori, voice of Lloyd Belladonna
Miyuri Hanamori will be playing the main character, Lloyd. As expected, Lloyd's voice actor is a woman. His appearance doesn't suit a male voice, so perhaps this was to be expected (lol). He's still a young voice actor at 22 years old, but he's been active as a voice actor since 2013. The first main character he played was Yuyuyu, also known as Minowa Gin in "Yuuki Yuuna is a Hero". More recently, he played Hayasaka Ai in "Kaguya-sama: Love is War". He's also a voice actor who has played many other main characters in recent years.
Ai Kayano as Marie/Maria Azami
Marie, who also plays Lloyd's guardian, is played by Ai Kayano. Even those unfamiliar with voice acting have likely heard of her. Listing all the major characters she's played would be endless, so I'll start with characters from some of my favorite series... Darkness in "KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World!" and Kokomi Teruhashi in "The Disastrous Life of Saiki K." And finally, she played Menmako, also known as Meiko Honma, in her first heroine role in "Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day"! She has also voiced many other famous characters, including Kirika from the Symphogear series. Incidentally, she also co-starred with Miyuri Hanamori, who plays Lloyd, as a main character in the 2020 drama "Laughing on the Runway."
Natsumi Hioka as Alluka
Natsumi Hioka plays Alluka, the mayor of Konron Village and a loli-baba. My personal favorite character was Shinobu Sarutobi in "Superhuman High Schoolers: The Irresistible Seems to Easily Survive in Another World!", which aired in 2019. Her frequent use of the "nin-nin" (grin) expression in her lines left a lasting impression. Although she hasn't appeared in the anime recently, she also voices Hamakaze and Tanikaze in the popular game Azur Lane.
Marika Asahina as Selene Hem-Aen
Marika Asahina plays Selene, a perverted girl who stalks Lloyd every time except for her first appearance. A recent major character she's played is Asumi Kominami, also known as Ashumi-senpai, in "We Never Learn." However, the role that left the biggest impression on her is Nene-chan, also known as Sakura Nene, in "NEW GAME!" She had a very distinctive voice, but watching the "Last Dungeon" trailer, I can't wait to hear her voice in a completely different style.
Minami Tsuda as Riho Flavin
Riho, who has a straightforward personality and is reserved when it comes to romance, is a good match for Lloyd, making her a potential main heroine. She was also voiced by Minami Tsuda. She also played Yui Funami in "Yuru Yuri." She also played Onihime in "Momo Kyun Sword," a slightly less well-known but personally favorite character. While he didn't play a major character last year or this year, he has already been cast in several key roles in the 2021 anime, including Riho, so we're looking forward to his future success.
Seiichiro Yamashita as Alan Toyin Lidocaine
Alan, a handsome and well-built man, initially seemed like he might become Lloyd's rival, but before we knew it, he was the butt of everyone's teasing and a source of comedy. The role of Alan is played by Seiichiro Yamashita. In 2020, he played the roles of "Shota" in "Gal and Dinosaur" and "Isshiki Kosame" in "Tenka Ranman." He also made an impression with his refreshingly handsome voice as Yamada Chris, Elf Yamada's older brother, in "Eromanga Sensei," though he wasn't a main character.
"Ito Mirai" as Philo Quinones
"Ito Mirai" plays the battle-crazed, expressionless character Philo. One of the most memorable main characters played by Ito was the role of Nakano Miku, the third sister in "The Quintessential Quintuplets," which aired in 2019. The same sisters were played by Hanazawa Kana, Taketatsu Ayana, Sakura Ayane, and Minase Inori, and she played Miku, the most popular of all the main heroines in all the anime. Although Filo is a battle-freak, she is basically a laid-back and mysterious character, so she may actually have some similarities with Miku.
Satoshi Hino as Meltfan Dextro
Satoshi Hino plays Meltfan, a talented yet somewhat disappointing colonel of the Azami Kingdom. He has been active as a voice actor since 1997, and is now a veteran voice actor. His first regular role was as Shu Yu in "Ikki Tousen." Because he has been active for a long time and has played many major characters, I will be introducing characters from his favorite series. His memorable roles include the protagonist "Ainz Ooal Gown" in "Overlord," "Sai" in "NARUTO," and, though not a main character, "Chogokin Kurobikari" in "One-Punch Man."
"M.A.O" as Colin Strase
"M.A.O" plays Colin, one of the few sensible people in the series who speaks Kansai dialect. Originally from Osaka, she has even held a Kansai dialect class and acted as a teacher, making her the perfect voice actor for Colin, who speaks in Kansai dialect (lol). M.A.O has appeared in a ton of works, appearing in 14 titles in 2020 alone and 29 in 2019! She's such a popular voice actress that anime fans who watch a variety of titles often say, "I can hear M.A.O's voice again," but she also plays many minor supporting characters and unnamed characters in addition to main characters. Recent roles include Maydry in Isekai Reviewers and Onijima Homare, the main character in Lost or Found?.
Souma Saito, voice of Shoma
Finally, we'll introduce the voice actor for Shoma, a resident of Konron Village and Lloyd's older brother. He's played by Souma Saito. Shoma has had very few screentimes in the comics, and if the anime adaptation follows the original story, he likely won't have many screentimes. However, as of July 2020, he is one of only 10 characters announced on the official website. Speaking of Soma Saito, he played major characters in 10 works in 2020 alone, including the role of "Okamoto Tama" in "Uchitama!?" and the handsome Marutaka captain "Tokiwa Tokitaka" in "Ahiru no Sora."
"Last Dungeon" Voice Actors Summary
So far, we've introduced the voice actors appearing in "Last Dungeon." Currently, only these 10 are officially announced. After some research, we've found that many of them have previously appeared together in the same works, so we can expect perfect teamwork. The official trailer features some voice acting, giving you a feel for the characters, so if you haven't seen it yet, be sure to check it out!
