The wildly popular game "Bungo to Alchemist" tells the story of famous Japanese writers reincarnated and fighting, garnering a large following, especially among women. Featuring a variety of famous authors, this work is also scheduled for an anime adaptation in April 2020. Featuring a total of around 60 characters, many readers are curious about their stat strengths. In this article, we'll introduce a strength ranking of "Bungo to Alchemist" characters.
Before the Strength Ranking
Even though it's a strength ranking, there isn't a significant difference in the strength of each character. Comparing the total stat values only results in slight differences. A defining feature of the game is that it's not possible to categorize characters as strong because they're rare or weak because they're not. Therefore, there's nothing wrong with developing characters you like the way they look.
Combinations are important
In Bungo Stray Dogs, players form factions of four and enter battle together. This combination increases the chances of reaching the boss and determines the advantages and disadvantages of the battle. Combinations are determined by the type of weapon the writer wields (blade, bow, gun, whip) and their mental state (stable, unstable), so it's not as simple as just developing writers with high stats.
Status
The stats of literary figures are "Attack," "Defense," "Evasion," "Skill," "Genius," "Beauty," "Theme," and "Truth." "Genius," "Beauty," "Truth," and "Theme" are rare, aren't they? You can also increase these stats using items.
What is Mental State?
In addition to the standard stats like "Attack" and "Defense," Bungo Stray Dogs also has a stat called "Mental." This is a rare stat found in other games, but there are five mental states: "Stable," "Slightly Stable," "Normal," "Slightly Unstable," and "Unstable." Since it's merely a stat, a mentally unstable writer will not become stable, and a stable writer will not become unstable. There is no good or bad mental state, and the timing of special moves will differ. We recommend using different states depending on the stage.
Strength Ranking #1 ☆ Akutagawa Ryunosuke
The author with the highest total maximum stats is Akutagawa Ryunosuke. He is a member of the New Thoughts faction, and his weapon is "Blade," his rarity is "Rainbow," and his mentality is "Unstable." His highest maximum stats and "Unstable" mentality make it easier to fill the Advent Gauge. This makes him a highly recommended author for using the Dual Brush Essence (a special move performed by a pair of characters). His overall stats are also high, so if you're unsure about who to include in your Yaiba team, consider adding him.
An Iconic Author of the Game
Akutagawa Ryunosuke is an iconic character. He's featured prominently on app icons and in various illustrations, making him the "Bun-Al" character. A member of Shinshicho, he's a heavy smoker who loves cigarettes. His signature works, including "Kappa" and "Gears," feature him as a motif. His beautiful demeanor exudes a sense of well-mannered upbringing, but this can also make him seem unapproachable to those who meet him for the first time.
Strength Ranking #2 ☆ Osamu Dazai
Next up in the rankings is Osamu Dazai. He is a writer belonging to the Burai school, with an "Unstable" mentality, a "Rainbow" rarity, and a "Blade" weapon. He's also an unstable writer, making him a good choice for the Sohitsu Shinsui technique. His overall stats are almost as high as Akutagawa's.
He seems like a cheerful mood maker, but...?
Although he pretends to be a cheerful and lively person, he is actually a narcissist and attention-seeking person. He has a strong admiration for Ryunosuke Akutagawa and loves to talk with him. He is still obsessed with the fact that he was unable to win the Akutagawa Prize during his lifetime. He also has a stubborn refusal to accept defeat, and will never admit anything inconvenient, even when it is pointed out to him.
Strength Ranking #3 ☆ Hagiwara Sakutaro
Next up in third place is Hagiwara Sakutaro. He is a poet and a member of the Kitahara School. His weapon is a "gun," his rarity is "gold," and his mentality is "unstable." So far, all three writers have an "unstable" mentality. Also, because he's a gun, his attack power and evasion ability are exceptionally high. If you want to attack and escape without restraint, it's recommended to deploy a gun writer with high stats and levels.
The Lonely Poet
He hates crowds and people, but he has a troublesome (?) personality that doesn't want to be lonely. He belongs to the Kitahara school of poets, and has a strong admiration for Kitahara Hakushu, always waiting for a reply to his letters. He is also best friends with Muro Saisei, who is also from the Kitahara school.
Strength Ranking #4☆ Nakahara Chuya
Changing the rankings to #4 is Nakahara Chuya. He's also a poet, but doesn't belong to any particular faction. His weapon is a "gun," his rarity is "gold," and his mentality is "slightly unstable." Being a gun, his attack power is quite high, and his stats are almost identical to Hagiwara Sakutaro's.
He looks like a boyish delinquent, but
He's a small-bodied young man with a big attitude. He's a drunkard and prone to violence, but he usually loses fights. When he gets into a fight and speaks ill of others, he does so in a rather poetic way.
Strength Ranking #5 ☆ Izumi Kyoka
Next up is Izumi Kyoka. He is a writer belonging to the Ozaki school, with a "Slightly Stable" mentality, a "Blade" weapon, and a "Rainbow" rarity. Among writers with a stable mentality, he has the highest maximum stats. Writers with more stable stats tend to be more likely to use special moves in times of crisis. His "Pen-Slaying Secret Technique" is a special move that rarely activates when a writer's health gauge is "Weakened" or "Lost."
He's always fighting with Shusei...
Izumi Kyoka, a member of the Ozaki school, has a great deal of respect for Ozaki Koyo. He also seems to be constantly fighting with Tokuda Shusei, who is also a member of the Ozaki school. (Basically, Kyoka just rambles on about it.) He's also extremely obsessive-compulsive, unable to eat food that isn't cooked, and even throws away any parts of his favorite anpan (sweet bean buns) that he touches with his hands. He loves rabbit merchandise.
Strength Ranking #6 ☆ Natsume Soseki
Natsume Soseki's weapon is the "Blade," his faction is the "Comfortable," and his rarity is "Gold." His overall stats are relatively high for a Blade, making him relatively easy to obtain among "Gold" authors.
Akutagawa Ryunosuke's Teacher
He is a model teacher, beloved by many of his students, including Akutagawa Ryunosuke. He has a humorous and kind personality, but can also show a strict side at work. He loves sweets, especially yokan. Even when he's told he eats too much, he doesn't seem to be cutting back.
Strength Ranking #7 ☆ Kenji Miyazawa
Kenji Miyazawa's weapon is a gun, he's not affiliated with any faction, his mentality is somewhat stable, and his rarity is gold. He's a fairly rare author, and some people may have difficulty obtaining him. If you're having trouble reincarnating the author you're looking for, use a bookmark to increase his rare appearance rate.
Looks like a boy
Kenji Miyazawa (Miyazawa Kenji) looks like a boy. Even when he's going through hard times, he always says, "I'm fine!" and wishes happiness for everyone rather than himself. Despite his childlike appearance, he also has a surprising side to him, such as his large collection of shunga (erotic prints) that he calls "picture books for adults."
Bungo and Alchemist Strength Ranking Summary
That concludes the "Bungo and Alchemist" strength rankings! While there are many different characters, we've found that writers with high maximum stats are also relatively rare. Consider their mental state and attack power to create the best faction for you. I'm really looking forward to the anime adaptation starting in April. Thank you for reading this far.
