The anime series "Berserk of Gluttony," scheduled to air in the fall of 2023, is a dark fantasy based on the novel "Let's Become a Novelist." It tells the story of a protagonist who, after discovering that his only useless skill, "Gluttony," is actually a dangerous skill with extremely high risk and high reward, is at the mercy of this ability as he rises to the top. In this article, we'd like to introduce the series' protagonist, Fate Graphite!

Fate Graphite is a man who lives in a world where those who possess useless skills have no human rights!

Volume 1 Cover

In this world, special powers bestowed by God—known as "skills"—reign supreme. Those with the right skills are considered successful, while those without are unable to lead a decent life. It's a harsh world for the weak. Meanwhile, our protagonist, Fate Graphite, is a dropout with no decent skills. Fate works as a gatekeeper in the royal capital of Seyfart, a grueling job where he can't stand the power harassment from his superiors.

The Awakening of Fate Graphite's Skill "Gluttony"!

Skill Awakening

Fate's skill is "Gluttony." Gluttony's skill simply makes her hungry and is completely useless. However, after accidentally killing a wounded bandit, the "Gluttony" skill awakens. The "Gluttony" skill devours and steals the stats and skills of those it kills. However, it does not grant the usual experience points. Fate's abilities, which were previously at level 1 and all stats at 1, dramatically increase.

Fate's emotional support comes from the Holy Knight Roxy Heart!

A Story with Roxy

The only person who cared about Fate, whose life was a disaster due to his useless skills, was the Holy Knight Roxy Hart. Roxy, who is pure and kind-hearted, couldn't bear to see the earnest Fate in his situation and offered him a position under her care. Fate accepted, and he happily became a servant working for her in her territory. Roxy was a source of emotional support for Fate, and after learning of her situation, he began to secretly use his powers for her.

Fate's partner, the deadly sin weapon, black sword Greed!

Meeting Greed

The black sword "Greed," purchased by Fate from a weapon shop for next to nothing, is a mysterious sword with a sentient being that can only communicate with Fate. Greed is essentially Fate's combat weapon and becomes like a companion. Greed's rank can be unlocked by paying the stats gained through the Gluttony skill, and unlocking the rank allows it to take on various forms and abilities. However, the timing of unlocking the rank seems to be up to Greed, and refusing to unlock it will result in the user losing their authority. It is said that Greed's gender is male, and it is implied that he was originally human.

The terrifying side effect of the Gluttony skill: Fate cannot turn back!

Hungry Fate

Fate's Gluttony skill allows her to steal the abilities and skills of those she kills. However, as a side effect, if she doesn't continue to steal and devour, she becomes overcome with an overwhelming hunger. If she exceeds her limit, she will go into mental distress. Therefore, Fate's Gluttony skill compels her to continue killing and devouring. When she enters a state of hunger, her eyes turn red and she feels an urge to satisfy her hunger. This state will not end until the hunger state is lifted, but to satisfy this hunger, her basic abilities are boosted, including improved night vision and a heightened sense of smell.

Fate struggles with her inhuman self! Will he be able to stay by Roxy's side?

Worried Fate

As Fate's Gluttony skill grows, ordinary prey gradually becomes unsatisfying, and he begins to crave stronger, more worthy prey. However, when he devours a powerful monster known as a "Crown," he experiences a sudden surge of stats and is overcome by madness, becoming far removed from a normal human. Fate is torn between his desire to support Roxy, who has been burdened with a heavy role, and his inhuman nature, and he begins to wonder if he should be by Roxy's side.

Fate decides to protect Roxy from the shadows!

Fate Makes a Decision

He cannot reveal his true identity to Roxy. However, Roxy is ordered by the kingdom to go to a place where she will face her death. Fate therefore resolves to conceal his true identity and protect Roxy from the shadows. Having long needed to conceal his true identity, Fate conceals it by wearing a skull mask, and goes by the name Warrior Mukuro.

Revenge on the Holy Knights who looked down on Fate and treated her like a slave!

Fate's Revenge

Before his Gluttony skill awakened, Fate lived a life at the bottom of society, and was treated particularly cruelly by the Holy Knight Brerick family. Not only that, but they also committed illegal crimes, such as kidnapping orphaned children. Furthermore, they had also been plotting to indirectly drive his beloved Roxy Hart to her death. So, Fate killed the second son, Bud Brerick, to exact revenge.

Meeting Holy Knight Aaron Barbatos!

Meeting with Arlong

A turning point for Fate was meeting the battle-hardened Holy Knight Arlong Barbatos. Arlong was semi-retired for certain reasons, but he became intrigued by Fate's strength, which was inconsistent with her technical ability, and offered to train her himself. Arlong, one of the most skilled Holy Knights, is a fierce warrior whose stats and skills far surpass those of Fate. Under Arlong's tutelage, Fate acquired his skills and intuition. Later, Fate was adopted by Arlong and inherited the Barbatos family estate.

Fate encounters wielders of the Deadly Sins and a sworn enemy!

Meeting Elise

Equipped with the special skill of Gluttony and the deadly sin weapon Greed, Fate encounters fellow allies with a shared fate, including Myne, a Gallic girl who wields the same deadly sin weapon and skill, and Elise, a mysterious beauty who calls herself the kingdom's guardian. However, he also faces formidable foes on a different level of strength, including wielders of the deadly sin weapons who are his enemies, an enemy who once looked down on Fate and caused him great harm, and the mastermind behind the secret manipulation of those people.

Almost consumed by the Gluttony Skill...

Fate is consumed

Fate's Gluttony Skill deepened during his battles with the Heavenly Dragon and the Holy Knight Northern Alestal, who wields the Deadly Sin Weapon and is trying to kill Roxy. Having surpassed the human realm and reached the E realm, Fate is unable to withstand the strain and is nearly consumed by the Gluttony Skill. Fate begs Myne to kill him before he goes berserk, but Roxy, his emotional support, tells him, "No matter what power you have, you're still Faye," and he holds his ground and avoids being consumed by the skill.

Fate Graphite, now Fate Barbatos!

Fate Becomes a Holy Knight

After the battle against the monsters that invaded the kingdom, Fate was approached by Arlong and asked if he would like to become his adopted son and inherit the family estate. However, Fate disliked the methods of the kingdom's Holy Knights and was willing to become their enemy. However, after Arlong assured Fate that she could live freely, she decided to become Arlong's adopted son. Following her adoption, her name changed from Fate Graphite to Fate Barbatos.

Fate Gains New Power

Twilight Healing

Fate lost an arm in the battle with Northern and the Celestial Dragons and nearly went berserk. However, thanks to those who supported her, she was able to stay strong and further deepen her Gluttony skill, mastering the fourth-tier secret technique, Twilight Healing. Twilight Healing can heal injuries and illnesses other than resurrection, and she even used it to heal Roxy's ailing mother.
