The anime adaptation of "Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru" will soon begin airing. It's a popular series currently being serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine, but does the name of this author seem familiar? He's also the original author of a popular anime that aired a while ago, and other works have already been adapted into anime. This time, we'll introduce this popular author, Soichiro Yamamoto.

What is Soichiro Yamamoto's age and birthplace?

Volume 3 Cover

Soichiro Yamamoto, who began his career as a manga artist in 2012, just over 10 years ago, is now 35 years old! He won an Honorable Mention Award at the Shogakukan Newcomer Comic Awards in 2011, so it seems he was active as a manga artist in his early twenties. He was born in Kagawa Prefecture in Shikoku, and is originally from Izu Island, which has been the setting for many movies and other productions. He graduated from Kyoto Seika University, the same university as Sukeno Yoshiaki, the author of "Binbougami ga!", and Miura Tadahiro, the author of "Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san."

Of course, this is Soichiro Yamamoto's debut serialized work.

Takagi-san Title

Souichiro Yamamoto's debut works include the short story collections "Romantic" and "Love Letter," but his debut as a full-fledged serial was the wildly popular anime "Teasing Master Takagi-san." It first appeared as a booklet supplement in "Gessan mini," but began serialization in the magazine itself in 2016. It won the Shogakukan Manga Award in the boys' category in 2011 and has sold over 10 million copies. This series also has spin-offs, such as "Teasing Master (Former) Takagi-san," which depicts the life of the hero and heroine after their marriage, and "Yukari-chan in Love," which features girls who were minor characters in the main story as protagonists. The anime has aired its third season by 2022. A movie is scheduled for release in June 2022, so it looks like its popularity will continue.

A Two-Sword Style in the Manga World?

Ayumu Holding a Shogi Chef

Manga artists generally publish their manga through the same publisher. Occasionally, there are manga artists who move from Jump to Magazine or change publishers, but most manga artists use the same magazine when drawing new works. (When a series ends in Jump, the new work is serialized in Jump again, etc.) However, Yamamoto Souichirou has drawn a variety of works, including "Teasing Master Takagi-san," in Gessan (Monthly Sunday), but "Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru" is serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine. Moreover, the serialization of one magazine is not over, and he continues to serialize his manga in both Sunday and Magazine at the same time.

In fact, Soichiro Yamamoto is a master of three swords.

Shy Tsubaki

Currently serializing "Teasing Master Takagi-san" in Gessan, and "Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru" in Weekly Shonen Magazine, Soichiro Yamamoto is also simultaneously serializing another work, "Kunoichi Tsubaki no Mune no Uchi" in Gessan. While the page count isn't particularly high, he's tough enough to simultaneously work on two other titles in addition to his weekly magazine serialization...and all of his works are popular. "Kunoichi Tsubaki no Mune no Uchi" is also scheduled to be adapted into an anime starting in April 2022. In other words, in 2022, "Teasing Master Takagi-san" will air from January to March, "Tsubaki no Mune no Uchi" from April to June, and "Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru" from July to September. A nonstop stream of serialized works will be adapted into anime. (The movie version of "Teasing Master Takagi-san" will also air in June.)

The genre is primarily romantic comedy

Embarrassed Senpai

Souichiro Yamamoto's manga is primarily romantic comedy. Although it's a romantic comedy, it doesn't focus on the intricate relationship between the two lovers, but rather depicts the indescribable relationship that develops before they become lovers. In "Teasing Master Takagi-san," the relationship between the two characters is more than friends, but less than lovers, and many viewers likely found their hearts fluttering (lol). "Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru" has a slightly different feel, telling the story of two people who are in love with each other but hide their feelings for a certain reason as they participate in club activities. Unlike "Teasing Master Takagi-san," the heroine is a clumsy character. While it's a romantic comedy, the lack of a tense atmosphere is one of the charms of Soichiro Yamamoto's manga.

A disease that will kill you if you don't expose your forehead!?

Odekoni Koma

In the works of Soichiro Yamamoto, one thing that almost always catches your eye is the heroine's wide forehead! As far as I know, all of his heroines have exposed foreheads. Not only in his ongoing series, but also in the drawings he posts on Twitter and elsewhere, forehead heroines are overwhelmingly prevalent... Bare-forehead heroines have become synonymous with the author, and his fans are known for their forehead fetishes (lol). Incidentally, Takagi-san's forehead remained the same even in a post-marriage spinoff work by a different author. Occasionally, her hair gets messy and she has bangs, causing a buzz among fans.

This is the first time that a weekly magazine work has been written with a storyline in mind.

"Teasing Master Takagi-san" primarily consists of short stories, which are not continuous, making it a work that can be enjoyed no matter where you start. In contrast, "Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru" is a work with a connected storyline. The author, who has mainly written short stories up until now, commented that this is the first time he has written a weekly magazine work with a storyline in mind. In this respect, you can enjoy a slightly different work from Yamamoto Soichiro's previous works.

Summary of the Author of "Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru"

Title

So far, I've introduced you to Soichiro Yamamoto, the author of "Soredemo Ayumu wa Yosetekuru." I was surprised to learn that he is also serializing three works simultaneously with other publishers, and that all of them will be adapted into anime in 2022. As the author stated in his comments, this work was written with a conscious focus on the story, so I expect it to be a different anime from "Teasing Master Takagi-san." I can't wait for it to be adapted into anime.
