Aharen-san wa Hakarenai is a heartwarming, slice-of-life school romantic comedy currently being serialized in Shonen Jump+. The anime is scheduled to air in April 2022. This comedy manga depicts the somewhat surreal interactions between Aharen-san, who is quiet and expressionless, but who quickly closes the gap between them and the boy sitting next to her, Raidou. Aside from these two, there are many other characters who are quite interesting. Here's a summary of the characters from "Aharen-san wa Hakarenai"!

Character #1: Reina Awanagare

Reina Awanagare

The protagonist and heroine of the series. She's a small, quiet, and expressionless girl, but once you open up to her, she quickly closes the distance between you both psychologically and physically. This makes her seem creepy to outsiders, but in reality she's just extremely bad at gauging the distance between herself and others, and while she thinks she's changing her facial expression, she actually speaks in a low voice. Her clumsy personality often leads to her doing strange things and becoming obsessed with strange things, which is how the story unfolds. She's a big eater, and the lunches she brings with her are homemade and plentiful. However, when she gets hungry or tired she becomes unable to move or falls asleep on the spot, so Raido and her dog have to look after her. Although she's clumsy by nature, she's very dexterous and can actually do anything, including cooking, playing games, and using a fidget spinner.

Character #2: Raido

Raidou

One of the main characters of this work. A boy with a facial expression as unchanging as Aharen. Although he sits next to Aharen, they haven't spoken since they entered school. However, when he picks up an eraser for her, the sense of distance becomes strange and he becomes confused. With a very tolerant personality and a tendency to accept most things, he doesn't seem particularly bothered by Aharen's behavior, and the two begin to interact. With his vast knowledge of trivia and unconventional imagination, he misinterprets Aharen's eccentric behavior, but the misunderstanding is usually cleared up within a few pages. Although she always looks after Aharen, unlike her, she's clumsy and bad at many things. She's secretly a total loser. She's always called Raidou, but it's her last name, not her first name. In kanji, it's Raidou.

Character #3: Oshiro Mitsuki

Oshiro Mitsuki

Aharen's childhood friend. Although she cares deeply for Aharen, she's insecure about her height and has a very shy and reserved personality. She rarely comes out in public, instead watching over her from the attic or in the shadows like a ninja. He is a highly skilled boxer who regularly devotes himself to boxing, giving him exceptional physical abilities. His family owns a barbershop, making him a highly dependable presence, skilled in haircuts and massages. He's always brave enough to step out in times of need.

Character #4: Ishikawa

Ishikawa

Raidou's classmate and friend. He's handsome, has many friends, and is a good friend who readily speaks up to Raido and Aharen, who tend to behave eccentrically. He's a member of the sports club and has excellent physical abilities, so he's often seen hanging out with his childhood classmate, Sato.

Character #5: Sato Hanako

Sato Hanako

A girl in the same class as Raidou and Aharen. She is Ishikawa's childhood friend and often spends time with him. She has a very normal sensibility, and is confused by the strange behavior of Raidou and Aharen, as well as Ishikawa, who doesn't seem to mind their actions. However, because she believes in being normal, she pretends to be unfazed.

Character #6: Miyahara-sensei

Miyahara-sensei

Raidou and Aharen's homeroom teacher in their first year. A gentle teacher with glasses, she is a childhood friend of Momohara-sensei, and they are close friends, often taking care of her when she is sick.

Character #7: Mr. Momohara

Mr. Momohara

Raidou and Aharen's homeroom teacher in their second year. He's not a very talkative person, and his slanted eyes give off an intimidating impression, leading others to view him as cool. He's physically frail and always ill, vomiting blood and collapsing. However, his symptoms are a result of a common otaku illness: a digital version of Anness, in which emotions become heightened when seeing something precious. A history buff, she especially loves romance stories. Her illness is triggered when she encounters situations described as "pathetic" or "interesting." She sees Raidou and Aharen-san as particularly dangerous characters, due to their extreme "pathetic" and "interesting" nature.

Character #8: Tamanaha Riku

Tamanaha Riku

A tanned, flamboyant-looking gal who transferred to the school in her second year. She has a cheerful personality and has been dragging Aharen-san around with her ever since transferring. In fact, she was childhood friends with Aharen and Oshiro, and in elementary school, she thought that Reina had been pushing her around and that they had distanced themselves from her. Contrary to appearances, she is actually an extremely introverted person, always afraid of interpersonal relationships, constantly exploding with negativity, and believes she is an outcast in her class.

Character #9: Aharen Toujou

Aharen Toujou

Aharen's younger brother looks so similar to Aharen that Raido doesn't realize they are two different people upon first meeting. Not a sister, but a younger brother. She's talkative and a great communicator, getting along with everyone. She's expressive, has a small appetite, and hates games in general. Other than her appearance, she's the complete opposite of her sister. She's an elementary school student.

Character #10: Aharen Eru

Aharen Eru

Aharen's younger sister. Although she's in her second year of junior high school, she looks like a slightly larger version of Aharen. She's very caring and supports her sister and Raidou, but sometimes her feelings get the better of her and she can be cold and rude.

Character #11: Nui

Nui

Nui is a large dog kept at Aharen's house. She's incredibly intelligent and loyal, stopping spontaneously when Aharen tries to cross a red light, carrying her on her back when she falls asleep, and appearing whenever Aharen is in trouble, such as when she forgets her lunch or comes to deliver it, perfectly supporting her clumsy owner. She's a female, by the way.
