Aharen-san wa Hakare Nashi is being adapted into an anime series starting in April 2022, and is based on a heartwarming school comedy serialized in Shonen Jump+. The story depicts the interactions between Aharen Reina, a girl who has trouble gauging distance, and Raidou, a male student who sits next to her. Aharen has a clumsy personality and is always bewildering Raidou with her strange behavior, but Raidou's imagination explodes in unexpected directions, leading to strange conclusions that just don't seem to happen... This time, we've compiled some of Raidou's imaginations that just don't seem to happen...!
Imagination #1: Aharen-san in a tattered state
Featured in Episode 5. One day, Aharen-san comes to school in a tattered state for some reason, and Raido sees her and assumes that she's been fighting with students from another school. As usual, her sense of distance is strange, so when she suddenly confronts him, Raido mistakenly believes she's going to kill him, but in reality, she just got dust in her eye and started bumping into things. You might think that wouldn't happen, but Aharen-san's clumsy personality is just that bad.
Imagination #2: Did I kill Aharen-san?
Featured in Episode 6. Raido is paired with Aharen for calisthenics. Aharen says it's okay, so Raido keeps pushing her back. A strange sound is heard, and she stops moving. Raido imagines that this will be featured on the front page of tomorrow's newspaper. Aharen is just flexible, and she starts moving again immediately after this.
Imagination #3: Being featured in a weekly magazine?
Featured in Episode 7. Raido, worried that they've recently become too close and are starting to stand out in class, worries that if things continue as they are, they'll be written about openly in the weekly magazines. Raido tries to distance himself from Aharen-san, but Aharen-san also feels that he's causing her trouble.
Imagination #4: Is someone targeting him?
Featured in Episode 8. Raidou begins to hear a hateful voice coming from nowhere. He begins to suspect that he is being targeted by an assassin. Raidou recalls the crimes he has committed, repents, and tries to atone for them, but the voice continues to ring. The truth is that it belongs to Aharen's childhood friend, Oshiro Mitsuki. Although she cared about Aharen, she was extremely shy and didn't like to be seen in public, so she kept an eye on him from the attic or in the shadows. She thought Raidou was deceiving her, but her misunderstanding is cleared up.
Imagination #5: Aharen-san Transferring Schools?
Featured in Episode 11. Raido suspects that Aharen-san dislikes him because she turns away and refuses to face him, but she responds when he calls out to her and doesn't seem angry. Yet, seeing Aharen-san's gloomy expression, he wonders if she's transferring schools. That's why he thinks she's avoiding eye contact to avoid feeling any pain. In reality, she's just sleeping wrong and can't turn her head toward him.
Imagination #6: Aharen's Motivated Switch Flipped
Featured in Episode 14. Aharen is surprised to see Raido's zipper open. However, today, her throat is sore and she can't speak. Aharen uses all her strength to hide the open zipper, but Raido mistakes this for being full of motivation. Aharen protects Raido's crotch until she runs out of energy, but Raido doesn't notice until he gets home. It's only after he gets home that he realizes Aharen's actions.
Imagination #7: Aharen's Devotion to Death Metal Bands
Featured in Episode 16. Aharen is swinging her head wildly. Seeing this, Raido assumes she's obsessed with death metal bands and is practicing headbanging. Death metal bands are a symbol of dissatisfaction with society, and Raido believes Aharen is deeply dissatisfied with today's society. He asks Aharen if she has any worries. She simply can't take notes because the person in front of her is too tall.
Imagination #8: Surrounded by guard dogs!?
Featured in Episode 17. One hot summer day. Raidou senses Aharen's body rapidly losing moisture, so he enters a nearby cafe. However, it turns out to be an animal cafe for dogs and cats. Raidou has a terrible phobia of animals, and feels as if he's surrounded by wild beasts. Why would they treat a customer so cruelly? It's nothing more than a security measure by the guard dogs. Of course, that's not their intention.
Imagination #9: Fidget spinner addiction?
Featured in Episode 18. Aharen becomes obsessed with the hand spinner that Raido casually lends her. Eventually, Aharen begins spinning it anytime, anywhere. Raido, fearing that this could lead to her becoming addicted to the spinner and negatively impacting her future, considers taking the spinner away from her. However, he is conflicted, fearing that if he were to take the spinner away and Aharen loses her will to live, he could be charged with a criminal offense for taking the spinner away. However, he returns the spinner immediately afterward.
Imagination #10: YouTube debut?
Featured in Episode 19. When Aharen asks him to record a strange dance, he assumes she's aiming to become a YouTuber. This leads to the leap of imagination that she'll eventually set up a YouTube agency and become a nurturing force for YouTubers. In reality, she's just doing it for dance class.
Imagination #11: Death metal again?
Featured in Episode 20. When Aharen-san arrived at school in the morning, her hair was standing up like a tiger. Perhaps this was because she'd gotten into death metal again (which she hadn't done in the first place), but in reality, she just hadn't had time to straighten her hair. Even when Raido tried to straighten it, it ended up looking like a Saiyan, so he summoned Oshiro-san, who was hiding in his locker, to help.
Imagination #12: Possessed Aharen-san
Featured in Episode 23. Aharen-san suddenly begins acting strangely. He doesn't respond when called out to, and appears to be asking for water, leading to the conclusion that he's possessed by an evil spirit and is seeking holy water. In reality, he's just choking on some food.
Imagination #13: Aharen-san Devoted to Boxing Exercise
Episode 25. At lunchtime, Aharen-san, who always makes her own lunch, notices that her hands and mouth are chapped. Raido, seeing this, jumps to the conclusion that she's relieving her daily frustrations by doing boxing exercises. It turns out it's because she cooks every day. Incidentally, Oshiro-san's hands are also chapped, but this is due to her devoted boxing exercises to relieve daily stress.
Imagination #14: Aharen-san Dies Tomorrow?
Episode 33. Raido, whose predictions are always accurate, believes he has a talent for fortune-telling. However, after reading Aharen's fortune, he discovers a parade of ominous signs, including a black cat and a death star, that she will die today. He struggles to prevent Aharen's death, but is unable to protect her. In fact, the predictions were completely inaccurate; the black cat was a cat that lived at school, and the death star was bird droppings on the window.
Imagination #15: Aharen wants to go on a diet?
Included in Episode 34. One day, Aharen-san notices that Raido has gained weight. Realizing that if things continue as they are, he will fall to his death, Aharen-san makes a leap of imagination. Believing that she is the reason Raido is eating more, she begins to study dieting. Seeing this, Raido realizes that Aharen-san is concerned about his weight. Though dieting is bad for the body, Raido wants to respect Aharen's wishes, so he goes on a diet himself and tries to teach him the correct method. As a result, Raido loses weight.
