Who is Nanachi?
Riko, the protagonist, is attacked by a swarm of swarms lurking in the Fourth Layer of the Abyss and is near death from the poison. Nanachi appears, looking annoyed, in front of Reg, who is crying out loud and unable to do anything. She appears like a doll-like cross between a human and a rabbit, but reveals that she is not human, but a "Narai" (a form of destruction).
When she first appeared, it seemed like she might be a cave explorer. It's easy to start to wonder.
Although she looks like a child around the same age as Riko and Reg, the way she speaks suggests she's incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable. She also exudes a somewhat mature aura. Let's take a closer look at Nanachi.
Surprisingly tsundere. A very kind Nanachi
You can just blow into her directly. It's a kiss. Do you know how to do it?
To save the dying Riko, he instructs Reg to administer artificial respiration.
Although he speaks bluntly, thanks to his words, Riko survives.
He originally found Riko and Reg on the 4th floor and was observing them out of curiosity. However, when they were attacked by a swarm of gnomes, he felt sorry for Reg, who was crying and holding the seriously injured Riko, and decided to help her.
Nanachi is the Surgeon of the Abyss
Since the stingray's poison can spread throughout the body, amputating the arm is necessary. Nanachi expertly treats Riko's poisoned right arm. She cuts open the affected area with a knife, removing the broken bone and suturing the blood vessels and flesh. She also makes a mysterious medicine she claims was "made by a friend," revealing her expertise in surgery and pharmacology.
Nanachi Can See the Abyss's Curse
Nanachi goes into detail about the "curse," which has always remained shrouded in mystery in Made in Abyss, and explains what it is. According to Nanachi, a curse is like a "thin cloth." Normally, it's invisible to the naked eye, but it's layered in multiple layers. Because Nanachi can see the curse, she's able to choose to live in a place free of curses.
If it hits the tips of your fingers, it's barely affected, but if it hits the head, chest, or other vital areas, well, as we've seen, it's going to cause some serious damage.
The food isn't particularly specific...

Nanachi may be intelligent and knowledgeable, but she seems to have trouble cooking. Even when using the right ingredients, her food ends up looking like "sticky mud," and Reg describes it as having an "unbearable, secretory taste."
Rather than lacking any cooking skills, it seems she doesn't even know how to cook.
Riko, who has just recovered from an illness, gently strokes Nanachi and teaches her, and she savors the food she makes. Her happy expression warms Riko and Reg's hearts, while Nanachi blushes and looks embarrassed, which is adorable.
Is Nanachi a Boy or a Girl?
Source:
Perhaps because Nanachi is not human, it's difficult to determine her gender. She uses "Ira" as her first-person pronoun and speaks in a masculine tone, but she sometimes reacts in a way that suggests she's female. When Reg tries to touch her, she rejects him, saying, "Reg's touching is dirty," which leads one to wonder if she's female.
What is "Narehate"?
Nanachi refers to herself as a "Narehate," but what exactly does "Narehate" mean?
I'm Nanachi. I'm what you call a "Narehate."
"Narehate" apparently refers to those whose bodies have been altered by the Abyss's curse. This appears to be due to the upward pressure from the Sixth Layer of the Abyss, but the curse of the Abyss is truly terrifying...
Was Nanachi Originally Human?! Nanachi Before She Became a "Narhate"
Before she became a "Narehate," Nanachi was human. She looks like a girl, and while she doesn't have bunny ears or a fluffy body, she's still cute.
When she was human, she lived in the slums, uncertain of whether she'd even have enough food that day. Her catchphrase, "Nnnnnnn," seems to have been there since her human days.
Why Nanachi Became a "Narehate"
It seems Nanachi didn't choose to become a Narehate.
Tricked into being lured to the Fifth Layer of the Abyss by the legendary White Whistle, Bondrewd, Nanachi is subjected to human experimentation. As a result of Bondrewd's experiments, which impose a curse on others, Nanachi becomes a "Narhata," losing her humanity.
Nanachi's popularity is soaring! A figure is now available!
Nanachi, who has a cute yet tragic past, seems to have many fans. As if to reflect her popularity, a Nanachi figure has even been released. Nanachi fans should definitely check it out.
Summary
What did you think of this summary of Nanachi? Nanachi, who unwillingly became a "Wanderer," will play an important role in the Maid Abyss story. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to the cute and fluffy Nanachi in the future.
