"Weird's Salad Bowl," which will be adapted into an anime series starting in April 2024, is the latest work from the author of "Haganai" and "If My Little Sister Comes To Live With Me." With five volumes of the light novel and three volumes of the comic adaptation, it's surprising that it's being adapted into an anime so early, but the content is a chaotic and hilarious work that condenses all the fun of the light novel. In this article, we'll be introducing the story and how it unfolds. Please note that we'll be introducing the content based on the comic adaptation.
Story Part 1: The Fall of the Empire
The empire fell to a rebellion, bringing to an end the Opim Empire, which boasted a history of over 400 years. The empire's princess, Sarah Da Odin, continued to flee from her pursuers with her loyal retainer, Livia. With no other option, Sarah resorts to a desperate measure and jumps into a portal to another world. Meanwhile, in Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture, a lackluster provincial city that was at the height of its power during the time of Lord Nobunaga's residence (what a line!), there was a poor and unremarkable detective named Kaburaya Sosuke.
Story Part 2: The Righteous Detective
Sosuke Kaburaya, 29, single and single, is a man of unremarkable appearance, but as a detective, his unassuming appearance is also an advantage. He once worked as the ace detective at a major detective agency, but due to certain circumstances, he went independent and set out to become a righteous detective. However, reality was not so sweet, and he continued to live a life far from his ideal. And today, he was once again on the move, trying to obtain evidence of a certain man's infidelity.
Story Part 3: A Girl Appears from the Sky!
While working to uncover evidence of an affair, a girl suddenly falls from the sky. Introducing herself as Sarah da Odin, she claims to be a beautiful cosplayer from another world, but she's actually a real person from another world who can use magic to heal wounds and instantly turn jungle gyms into scrap metal. Confused by this fantasy worldview suddenly thrust upon him, Sosuke takes Sarah and flees the scene, taking refuge in his office.
Story Part 4: You can't just leave a resident of a fantasy world alone...
Sarah is a resident of a fantasy world where common sense is completely absent. Furthermore, after being seen, she starts saying dangerous things when she uses memory-erasing magic (which would likely turn her into a cripple). Sosuke doesn't want to get involved with her, but he's convinced that nothing good will come of it if he leaves her alone, so he reluctantly decides to protect Sarah.
Story Part 5: Sarah's Rapid Adaptation
Within a week, Sarah begins to rapidly adapt to modern society, enjoying games and manga and mastering the modern conveniences. While she particularly enjoys the detective manga Detective Conan, Sosuke explains to her that real-life detectives don't do what Conan does. Perhaps because the manga version of this work is serialized in Sunday Webry (the original light novel is published by Shogakukan's Gagaga Bunko), Conan's name isn't even censored, and he's never even given a dark glance.
Story Part 6: The Conclusion of the Infidelity Investigation
Sosuke makes a crucial discovery during a requested infidelity investigation. This time, it turns out that the client wasn't having an affair, but was being continuously blackmailed and assaulted by several gangsters. Sosuke shows up to stop the excessive assault, but he's outnumbered. Sara arrives to help, using the power of fantasy to join forces with Sosuke and repel the gangsters. Sara was heavily influenced by Detective Conan, and even appeared in the film parodying Conan's catchphrase.
Story #7: Food Terror
With Sarah's help, the case is solved, and Sosuke uses the reward to treat everyone to a half-price grilled Hida beef. Sarah is so impressed by the deliciousness that she reacts like something out of a cooking manga. She then offers to help the detective with his work in order to earn some money for herself. Sarah then leaves behind some famous lines such as "Shakkiripon" and "Listen, Detective. You'll be able to eat Hida beef, Hida beef, whenever you want. That's when a person is neither too great nor too poor, just right." These are famous internet memes from the parody of the famous cooking manga "Oishinbo." Perhaps they've seen the digital remaster?
Story #8: The Female Knight Becomes Homeless
Behind the story of Sosuke and Sarah's meeting, Sarah's loyal retainer, Livia de Woodis, had followed Sarah to Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture. Naturally, Livia had no money, no family register, no address, and was bound by the harsh rules of modern Japan, leaving her no choice but to become homeless. However, thanks to her encounters with kind homeless people, her exceptional physical abilities, and her positive personality, she was able to live a fulfilling life as a homeless person.
Story 9: A Female Knight Works at a Sex Club
The existence of this stunning silver-haired beauty quickly becomes famous, and a shady man approaches Livia with an offer to make easy money. Unaware of the common sense of this world, Livia readily accepts the sweet offer and is taken to a shady sex club. However, since the job offers hundreds of times more than a homeless person, she struggles with whether to continue. Unfortunately, a raid occurs at just the right time, and her plan ends in failure. Later, by chance, she reunites with Sarah...
Story 10: The Female Knight Gets Fired from the Detective Agency
Livia reunites with Sarah and starts working at the detective agency. However, unlike the dull and inconspicuous Sosuke, Livia is far too conspicuous and fatally unsuited for the job. As a result, she is fired from the agency. However, Livia has her own pride, and she insists on finding her own place to live and work, returning to homelessness once again. From this point on, the female knight Livia breaks away from the Sosuke/Sara duo and sets out on her own path.
Story Part 11: The Corrupt Lawyer Makes His Appearance
Sosuke had a business connection, and Brenda Aisaki, a talented lawyer with an office in a luxury apartment, was a regular client. Despite her childlike appearance, Brenda Aisaki was actually older than Sosuke. Sarah suspected she had been shrunk by the Black Organization, but that appears to be untrue. Brenda is a talented lawyer, but she is also a corrupt lawyer who will use any means necessary. Brenda asks Sarah to conduct a background check for her divorce mediation, and Sarah learns the realities of the private investigator business. A character like this also appeared in the previous work.
Story 12: A Homeless Female Knight is Recruited by a Cult
Livia's natural drive and resilience have allowed her to adapt to homeless life. Meanwhile, she begins to make more homeless acquaintances. A pair of soup kitchen staff members invite her to visit the organization they belong to. The staff warmly welcome Livia, but it turns out the organization, "World's Branch Hill," is a cult. It was a cult that used kind words to lure young people hurt by the harshness of modern society into becoming followers, but Livia had no idea about this and once again found herself immersed in the chaos of modern society.
Story 13: A fantasy that shines in today's chaotic society
So, Sosuke and Sara are exposed to the chaos of modern society through their work as detectives, solving various cases in this everyday buddy detective story. Meanwhile, the naive female knight, Homeless, is drawn to various aspects of modern society's chaos, such as sex clubs, cult religions, saunas, and scalpers, creating a chaotic comedy exploring the dark culture of the female knight. Of course, these women are also residents of a fantasy world, and the chaotic element of these fantasy residents being thrust into the underground worldview of "Yakuza" makes this a work that really shines.
[Henjin's Salad Bowl] Story Summary
Here's a summary of the story of "Henjin's Salad Bowl," an anime based on a light novel set to air in spring 2024! It's easy to understand and entertaining, as if it's condensed the fun of light novels. Many of the characters have titles similar to those in Yakuza, making for a work with distinctive personalities. Since the anime adaptation was released quickly after the serialization, I expect it to be a rich story, so I'm looking forward to it! If you're interested, please give it a watch!
