The ULTRAMAN anime will finally begin airing in April 2019. Several decades have passed since Officer Hayata merged with Ultraman and fought. At this time, the Earth is once again in danger, and Officer Hayata's son, Hayata Shinjiro, who inherited the Ultraman genes, is called upon. In fact, he's not the only one. Just watch it! The characters in this work are just too good! Judging from the trailer, the anime looks very promising. This time, I'll be presenting my own arbitrary and biased ranking of the coolest characters.
Coolness Ranking #10: Shin Hayata
He merged with Ultraman to save the Earth. During the battle with Bemular, he fought hard to save his son, Shinjiro. Even after he seemed retired, Shin Hayata is a reliable father who occasionally pops up to help. He was also the first to realize Bemular's true identity, and he's my hero in this film as well.
Coolness Ranking: #9: Bemular
Bemular initially appeared to be a villain. His behavior seems to have a reason. As his true identity is revealed, it gradually becomes clear why he behaves the way he does. Bemular, as the original enemy, truly deserves to be called. In the original Ultraman, he was the monster that prompted Officer Hayata to assimilate with Ultraman.
Coolness Ranking: 8th Place: Igaru Alien
At first glance, he seems creepy, but in the end, he's a bit pitiful, being defeated while protecting his favorite idol. However, since his character is modeled after Pigmon, his sad fate is undeniable. Pigmon was the first friendly monster to appear, and was ultimately killed by Red King.
Coolness Ranking: #7: Shinjiro Hayata
Shinjiro Hayata, the protagonist of this work, is simply cool. He still has some immature aspects, but he's a hero after all. However, there are still many characters in this work who are even cooler than him.
Coolness Ranking: #6: Red
Red is a cute little character, but he's also incredibly cool in everything he does. As a monster who stands on the side of Earthlings, there are some difficult moments in the underground mall, but as long as he's on Earth, Red will continue to help Earthlings. He's stepped in to help Shinjiro Hayata on numerous occasions. His relationship with Jack is also worth watching!
Coolness Ranking: 5th Place: Seiji Hokuto
Perhaps he's a hero who misunderstood what it meant to be a hero. However, his actions were fundamentally for Yuko's sake. Seiji Hokuto, originally from Ultraman A, merged with Yuko and fought to protect the Earth. Yuko hasn't appeared much in the story yet. We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for Hokuto's future exploits.
Coolness Ranking: 4th Place: Adado
Adado actually has a tragic past. He gained his powers through experiments to help his weaker kin. Of course, his model is Dada. Dada was a monster with very low combat ability. If you read DADA backwards, it becomes Adado. The geometric pattern is also lovely. The scene where he cooperates with Adado to protect illegal immigrants is truly moving. Adado is also quite a strategist. After taking drugs, Adado becomes instantly muscular.
Coolness Ranking: 3rd Place: Dan Moroboshi
Of course, he's modeled after Dan Moroboshi from Ultra Seven. This alien, Dan Moroboshi, who appears in Ultra Seven, was actually a disguise for Ultra Seven, living in hiding on Earth. Despite constantly spouting cheesy lines, his dedication to training makes him even cooler than the main character. I hope we'll learn more about his background someday.
Coolness Ranking #2: Papa Sayama
Rena Sayama's father, a detective. In fact, he himself was once saved by the real Ultraman. Because of this, he sometimes refuses to recognize the Ultraman used by the Science Patrol as Ultraman. Yet, he cares deeply for Rena. His precious daughter. However, Rena Sayama has already... With all the trouble she's been through in America, we can't wait to see what Papa Sayama does next.
Coolness Ranking #1: Kotaro Azuma
Kotaro Azuma becomes Ultraman Taro. What's cool about him is the scene where he becomes Ultraman. Prior to that, he had killed a friend due to his own rash decision, and Adado begs Kotaro to act as Ultraman. "I have no light, because I caused his friend's death, so please just be Taro." This scene is also my favorite. Incidentally, Kotaro originally made his own hero suit. The reason it has horns is because he thought it looked cooler.
Coolness Ranking - Finally
This movie is packed with cool scenes! Just make sure you watch the anime at least once! I'm looking forward to it!
