In the world depicted in The Promised Neverland, the world of demons and humans is separated by a certain promise. The story begins when the main characters, unaware that they are being raised as edible children in the demon world, learn the truth. After learning that they are luxury food for the demons, the main character Emma and her friends decide to escape the farm in order to save the edible children and save the world as well. So what kind of existence are the demons depicted in this story? We will introduce it with some speculation.
Humans and demons separated by a promise

Long ago, there was a time when demons hunted humans to eat them. Humans felt threatened by these demons, and while some bowed down to them, others took up weapons and killed them. These humans cooperated and began to kill demons, and the demons eventually began to see humans as hateful beings. However, as this fighting between humans and demons of killing and being eaten continued, and both began to grow tired of this world, the humans came to make a pact. This was a promise: humans would not hunt demons. And neither would demons hunt humans. Because of this promise, the world of humans and the demons were divided into two.
The demon boss? What is △ (indecipherable in the demon language)? What is its relationship to the promise?

The name △ (indecipherable in the demon's language) appears at every opportunity. What kind of being is he? He is a demon who made a promise with humans, and considering the longevity of demons, it is likely that he is the demon himself, not a successor or anything like that. Judging from the way he is treated, he is an entity that requires the offering of special human flesh, and we know that he exists beyond the seven walls. However, there is no description as to whether this demon eats humans or not. The fact that there is no description of him eating humans means that this demon may not eat humans. In this story, the depictions of him not dying indicate the possibility that he may be alive in the future. It is also written that it is possible to make a new promise with him by crossing the seven walls. Perhaps the end of the story will be to find the demon △ and eventually reach the seven walls.
Demons that do not eat humans
Mujika, who was with Sonju, is also said to be a demon who does not need to eat humans. Originally, he had no compassion for humans, but after meeting Emma and the others, he acts as if he has compassion for them. She is the first to tell us about the seven walls. That the pendant was useful for the dragon's eye. And she teaches us that there is not just one promise in the world. There is a possibility that she is quite close to the demon △ (indecipherable in the demon language) with whom she made a promise.
Promises cannot be broken by demons

These are the words of a demon named Sonju from the original faith. This original faith teaches that if you eat something that God created as a hunt, it is not rebellion against God. Outside of hunting, it is taught that eating humans is against the doctrine. In other words, they have a faith that is hostile to the demon △ (whose language is indecipherable) with whom they made the promise, and the capitalists and aristocrats who cooperated with him and built the farm. The belief of the original faith is probably to restore the world before the promise. To that end, they seem to be hoping that Emma and the others will break the promise with this demon △. Demons cannot break promises. There are still many mysteries in this text.
Guessing why demons cannot break promises
From here on, it will be completely speculation by the author, but I think the reason why demons cannot break promises lies in the relationship between the demon △ and other demons. Demons existed before the dedication and are quite long-lived. However, they do not seem to have the concept of male and female, and it is not known at all how their numbers increase. If all demons are born from this demon △. Or if they are clones of him. All other demons cannot defy him. Isn't that a possibility? There is also a possibility that another promise that will come up later will lead to the reason why only humans can break the promise.
The demons changed after the promise
We have become quite disorderly in the last 1000 years. We have distorted our beliefs and even our appearances. In other words, it seems that the demon world of the Promised Land has been affected to some extent. However, there are also many intelligent demons such as Sonju, Musica, Leuvis Opposition, and Lord Bayon. Are the disorderly beings that Musica and the others are talking about referring to the stray demons that live in the forest? Conversely, in the world before the promise, the demons had order. There haven't been many flashbacks to the past world yet, but I'm sure there are some somewhere.
Considerations on the demons and another promise

Although I call this a consideration, it is only a guess, but before the promise was made, everyone worshipped the demon △, or to put it simply, they lived under a doctrine similar to the Japanese wartime Emperor Banzai. And in the midst of the conflict with humans, the demon △ does not hate humans, but rather envies the love and camaraderie they have, and assuming that demons are born from him, he would like to give them human-like feelings. And this is another promise, isn't it? Cultivating humans to raise demons to be more human. Furthermore, while the word love was used a lot at the farm, the demons have yet to express the emotion of love in words. So perhaps another promise is to teach the demons about love. In fact, some strange feelings have been born between Nous and Nouma, and if we consider that to be a kind of love, it could be seen as showing that process.

There are still so many things we don't know, so everything is just speculation, but the new world where Norman lives will probably be connected to another promise. They are probably being studied in order to fulfill this other promise. Anyway, this is a work that I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next. I can't take my eyes off it.
