The author of this work, "The Man Picked Up by the Gods," is Roy. It is a light novel about reincarnation in another world that began serialization on the novel submission site "Let's Become a Novelist" in 2014, and is a so-called Narou-style work. The manga is published by "Square Enix," and an anime is scheduled to air from October 2020. Ryoma Takebayashi, a middle-aged man, works for a black company and spends his days being chased by work. He hardly has any time off, and spends every day without eating a proper meal. What am I living for...? When Ryoma, who had such questions, woke up from his sleep, he found three gods in front of him. Ryoma suddenly died, but surprisingly, he accepted the reality and was reincarnated in another world... Ryoma, whose mission is to live in another world, is given magical powers and sets off on a journey to the other world. In the other world where Ryoma is reincarnated, magic is developed, and Ryoma is also given magical powers by the gods. This time, ahead of the anime adaptation, I would like to introduce the story's plot. It contains spoilers, so if you haven't seen it yet, please be careful!

Episode 10: Strategy Meeting

Ryuma consults Wogan

When Ryoma discovers that an epidemic is spreading in the septic tank of the communal toilet, he goes to consult with Wogan, the guild master. There, the members of the Duke of Jamir family, who had come to hear the guild master's story, are gathered. Ryoma, thinking that it would be an opportune time to report the situation, tells them about the epidemic on the spot. The Duke of Jamir's family is worried about Ryoma and tries to get someone else to do the work, but there is no one more suitable than Ryoma, who has a health level of 7, life enhancement level of 3, Zhao recovery level of 3, and durability enhancement level of 6. Reinbach is convinced and decides to leave the epidemic to Ryoma.

Elise is worried about Ryoma

Elise worries about Ryoma

Elise, Reinbach's wife, is very fond of Ryoma and worries about him as if he were her own son. Even when the epidemic was discovered, she was more concerned about Ryoma than the epidemic itself. When Ryoma tried to stay at another inn, thinking that he might be infected, she cried and stopped him, almost forcing him to stay at her house. Ryoma is so lucky to have such a beautiful and kind aristocrat who is genuinely concerned about him!

Episode 11 Cleaning Work

Ryuma Appraises the Epilepsy

Ryuma cleans the 29 septic tanks, and the adventurers take turns watching the area while he works. First, Ryoma assesses the pathogen to identify the disease. The diagnosis was that the illness was Idake disease. As soon as he knew the name of the illness, Ryoma came up with the recipe for the cure and instructed the guild master to tell him. He discovered the recipe for the cure thanks to the knowledge given to him by God. He had planned to clean one a day, but thanks to the splitting of the scavenger slime and Ryoma's hard work, he was able to finish cleaning the septic tank in just four days.

Evaluation from adventurers

Adventurers on guard duty

The adventurers on guard duty were all more skilled than Ryoma. However, the adventurers who saw Ryoma's abilities acknowledged that he was above his rank. Ryoma's dedication to his work and honest attitude earned him the trust of the adventurers.

Episode 12: Past and Future

The Duke of Jamir welcomes Ryoma

Ryuma's father was a swordsmith. Swordsmiths have a hard time making a living, but his father was so skilled that he was able to support his family with just a few requests, and his father, who had the time, taught Ryoma martial arts every day at the practice hall in their home. Ryoma was happy to be with his father, but one day he was picked on by a classmate and ended up injuring him. Ryoma had only dodged the punch, but he was lied to and ended up injuring the student. When his father heard this, he became violent with Ryoma, trying to make him reflect on his actions. Without listening to Ryoma's opinion at all... Ryoma was growing increasingly distant from his father, but his mother was the only thing that connected them. However, after his father died at the workshop, his mother started working, and eventually died from overwork. Betrayed by his father and losing his mother, Ryoma had given up on human warmth, but when he met the Duke of Jamir family, he remembered what it was like to be with someone.

Episode 13 Magic Training

The Duke of Jamir Family is Surprised by an Ice Fish

The purpose of the Duke of Jamir's trip to Gimul was also to provide practical training for Eliaria. Ryuma, who had promised to teach Eliaria how to play with magic, decided to train with her. Eliaria, who is good at fire and ice magic, was taught how to play with a firework-like magic called "Little Fire Flower" and a bubble-like magic called "Bubbly Water". Eliaria, who was taught how to play with magic, was able to enjoy the training.

Ryuma's Sense

The Duke of Jamir is amazed by Ryouma's sense

Elia has a lot of magical power and is not yet able to control it, so for safety's sake, Ryouma decides to train in a different place from Eliaria. Kamil teaches Ryouma attack magic, but he learns it in no time and Kamil has nothing to teach him. So Sebas teaches him space magic. Ryouma can use "teleport", and he quickly learns "dimension home" and "warp" after being shown the tricks. After completing his training, Ryoma shows everyone the magic he has learned, but since it is impossible to learn so many in one day, the Duke of Jamir's family is once again surprised by Ryoma's magical sense.

Episode 14: Defeating the Demonic Beasts

Playing Clay

After completing his magic training, Ryoma and his friends decide to investigate the mine to put Eliaria into practice and decide what request to make to the Adventurer's Guild. Ryoma goes into the mine with Eliaria and the others. Ryoma defeats four Cave Mantises in close combat. Hughes and the others are surprised that he can not only use magic, but also close combat. He was also surprised by the effect of the original magic "Playing Clay" that stopped many Cave Mantises in one go, but more than anything, he was surprised by the fact that he made it himself.

Powerful people who don't need guards

Powerful Duke Jamir Family

Reinbach goes alone, while Reinhard and Elise go together to investigate the behavior. Ryoma is surprised that they go into the mine without guards, but they are people who don't need guards. All three were once active as adventurers, and Reinbach even achieved military glory in skirmishes with neighboring countries. The members of the Duke of Jamir family were not just nobles, but people with real abilities.

Episode 15: How to Use Alchemy

Ryuma Sees a Red Stone

On the way back from the mine, Ryouma saw the red soil and wondered if there was still iron left in the soil. He said that iron could be extracted using alchemy. Since alchemy is full of mysteries and is often used as a method of fraud, Reinhard asks to see it for himself. Ryoma uses alchemy to separate all the soil except for iron, turning it into iron oxide. By further separating the oxygen from this, he creates 100% pure iron. Reinhard was skeptical of alchemy, but after examining the iron that was actually made, he comes to believe in Ryoma's alchemy.

Episode 16: Defeating the Demon Beast Again

Sound Bomb

Reinbach, who thought that the 100% pure iron made by alchemy could be used for business, does not participate in the afternoon training. Eliaria complains but heads off to investigate the mine. There were a lot of cave bats inside, and it didn't seem like it would be a good training for Eliaria. If it wasn't going to be a training, Ryuma wanted to experiment, so he used a magic called "Sound Bomb". This is a compound magic that combines the magic "Big Voice" that makes the sound louder and the magic "Whisper" that delivers the sound as far as the eye can see. Its effect was so great that it broke the Black Bear's eardrums and knocked him unconscious. By using this compound magic, he was able to defeat a large number of cave bats in one blow.

Present from Eliaria

Metal Slime

Elia, who was taken care of by Ryuma, gives Ryuma a metal slime that she found by chance. For Ryoma, who has been researching slime, this is a very welcome present. Ryoma's eyes sparkled when he got his new slime, just like a boy who received a birthday present. Ryoma was excited about the possibilities of the new slime, thinking that if he fed it iron, a metal slime might be born.

Episode 17 Morgan Trading Company

Reinhard and Serge

Ryuma and Reinhard came to Morgan Trading Company to negotiate. The items they negotiated for were cloth and thread made from sticky slime's sticky liquid, and a 100% pure ingot. He was convinced that the cloth and thread would definitely sell, but the ingots were said to be ordinary. This was because Reinhard had shown him ordinary ingots on purpose. When Serge saw the 100% pure ingot afterwards, he could not hide his amazement at its quality. Although Serge was enthusiastic about the quality of the products, he began to have doubts when he heard that the young Ryoma had developed it using alchemy. When Ryoma actually created a 100% pure ingot right in front of him, Serge bowed deeply and apologized for his rudeness. And so the negotiations for the 100% pure ingot went well.

Episode 18: Large-scale Demonic Beast Extermination

Adventurers heading to large-scale demonic beast extermination

Ryuma has decided to participate in a large-scale extermination with 264 participants. The party is made up of familiar members such as Miiya and Miseria, and everyone except for Ryouma is rank B or higher. However, the members who know Ryouma's abilities did not care at all that Ryouma is rank F. There were many cave bats in the cave. Ryouma, who had previously caught them all in one fell swoop with "Sound Bomb", suggests using "Sound Bomb" again. However, this only stuns them, and it takes time to kill them. So he decided to ask the lower-ranked party that had been following him from behind to help him.

Episode 19: Break

Ryuma saves a child

After defeating the slimes, Ryoma takes a break and feeds the slimes. While playing with the metal slime he received from Eliaria, the metal slime rolled down the mountain because of its round shape. Ryoma hurriedly chased after it and managed to retrieve it. Then he saw the party that had been following him in the cave and another party, who seemed to be arguing about something. Unable to bear the sight of adults surrounding the children and yelling abuse at them, Ryoma decides to intervene. The adult party then tries to take down Ryoma and the others. Ryoma reacts by creating an opening to let the children escape, and then uses his overwhelming fighting power to take them all down. At this point, Ryoma is no longer his usual gentle self, but is instead harboring murderous intent towards his opponents.

Episode 20 Report

Ryuma decides to become independent

Ryuma is called by Wogan. Ryouma saves the children, but in addition to the violence within the guild, he is late for the meeting place. Although it would not have been surprising if some kind of punishment had been given, Ryuma was not punished at all. Since there was no time to call for help, and the statements of the six children he helped matched, Ryuma's decision was deemed justified. Ryuma was relieved by this, but he noticed that Wogan looked exhausted. The reason was that Thatch, who attacked Ryuma, was one of the adventurers Wogan cared about. Thatch's behavior became worse after hitting the wall of rank, but at one point he started teaming up with a rookie adventurer with a bad behavior. The rookie adventurers stopped causing problems and made a record, so Thatch thought that Thatch had started to focus on training young people, but in fact he was doing something even worse behind the scenes. Wogan says that it's not just Thatch who is to blame, but also Ryuma. Ryuma has the backing of the Duke of Jamir. Although Ryuma hardly relies on that power, those around him see that he is favored by the Duke of Jamir, and therefore Ryuma cannot do anything bad. Ryoma, realizing this, decides to become independent.
