The Dawn of the Wizard, based on a light novel, is set to be adapted into an anime in April, but it has also been adapted into a comic and is currently being published in Monthly Shonen Sirius. Both the light novel and the book have been published in four volumes, making it very easy to collect. What's most noteworthy is that this work is a sequel that shares the same worldview and setting. It is also famous for featuring illustrations by Shizuma Yoshinori, an illustrator famous for works such as Kantai Collection, and is part of The Book of Zero - Starting from Zero. The series concluded in 2017, but has been adapted into a comic and an anime, and many people have likely watched it. In this article, we will introduce the story of the sequel, the comic version of The Dawn of the Wizard.
The Dawn of Magic: The Gathering Storyline
Synopsis
The Book of Zero, written by the Witch of Darkness, contains knowledge that upends the world, plunging it into chaos. Thanks to the efforts of Zero, the protagonist of the previous work, and his beast mercenaries, the world was temporarily brought to peace, but even after peace arrived, there were still those who sought conflict between humans and witches and those who were unhappy with the relationship, and the gap that had deepened over the years remained. Meanwhile, the protagonist, Sebir, a student at the Magic School in the Kingdom of Wenias, is facing expulsion due to his first poor grades. The school's principal, Albus, offers him a special training course, on the condition that he graduates. He travels to the training site with Holt, an honor student, Kudo, a beast-fell, and his chaperone, the Witch of Dawn, Law Christus.
Episode 1: Special Training ①
On the way to the village where the special training will be held, Sebir, Holt, and their chaperone, Law Christus, camp out. Sevil and Holt then open up about why they want to become wizards. Holt's reason is that he wants to use the magic that transformed him to help others. Sevil, on the other hand, doesn't just want to become a wizard, but feels he has no choice. Sevil has almost no memory of his time before enrolling, and fears that his memories of his time at the school will be wiped if he drops out, leaving him truly empty.
Episode 1: Special Training Part 2
Just as the conversation turns a little dark, the conversation shifts to Kudo, a beast-like creature who is also taking the special training course but is acting separately. Kudo is stubborn and rude towards the three, but unfortunately has the ability to change color depending on his emotions, making him unable to lie. Sevil harbors no ill will towards him, and Kudo's attitude suggests he simply cannot be honest with himself. As the night draws on, a suspicious group begins to move, targeting Sevil and Kudo as they head for a special training session.
Episode 2: Witch Hunt ①
The next day, Sevil and the others are informed by the young men accompanying Kudo that they have been attacked by a thief. Sensing something strange, Ro Christus realizes that this is not a thief, but a witch hunt, and sets off alone to rescue Kudo. Sevil and Holt, who were left behind, knew they were not up to the task, but they could not wait and so they sneaked out and went to rescue Kudo.
Episode 2: Witch Hunt Part 2
Meanwhile, Kudo is fleeing through the forest, but he falls into a series of traps and is finally cornered. The thief's true identity is an adjudicator from Dea Ignis, a witch-hunting organization affiliated with the church. When Kudo finds himself in a desperate situation, Law Christas rushes to his aid.
Episode 3: Bargaining
Lo Christus uses Ludens's magic wand to gain an advantage in the battle. It seems he will win, ignoring the Arbiter's attacks, until Sevil and Holto arrive. The Arbiter immediately captures Sevil and takes her hostage, immobilizing Lo Christus. He then pretends to know Holto, a student at the magic school, and reveals her true identity. Holto is an anti-witch spy sent by the church.
Episode 4: Child of the Devil①
Horuto was called the child of the devil from an early age. He began to grow horns resembling those of a beast from the time he was old enough to understand, which led to his parents abandoning him and placing him in the care of the church. After undergoing a self-punishing upbringing, Holto was ordered to enroll in a magic school as a spy. However, as he spent time at school, he began to question whether his actions were truly right and searched for a way out. After much deliberation, Holto decided to defect from the church and attack the Arbiter, but his attack was blocked at the last moment.
Episode 4: Child of the Devil Part 2
The Arbiter sets his sights on Holt and corners him. Meanwhile, Sebil reaches for Ludens' magic wand. Ludens' magic wand, commonly known as the Witch Eater, is a feared demon with the dangerous ability to absorb all magical power from anyone who touches it. Regretting his own incompetence, Sebil touches the wand with a spirit of self-sacrifice, willing to do whatever it takes to save everyone. At that moment, a massive amount of magical power went out of control and overflowed, engulfing the surrounding area.
Episode 5: The Witch-Eating Wand
When Sevil woke up, he was relieved that everyone was safe, but also puzzled that he was still alive. However, before he could question it, everyone was given a full-on lecture by Ro Christus. During the lecture, it was revealed that the reason Sevil was safe was because his magical power exceeded the amount absorbed by Ludens' magic wand, meaning he possessed an almost infinite amount of magical power. Now that peace has returned, Kudo accompanies Sevil and the others, and they head back to the village where they will be training.
Summary
