Since its serialization in Young Jump in 2017, Snack Bar Basue has been rumored to be an anime adaptation, but it's now been confirmed! The story is a gag manga centered around the silly everyday conversations of a run-down bar, with plenty of current events, dark humor, and even vulgar jokes, but it's truly a surprise that it's finally being adapted into an anime. So, this time, we've compiled a list of the characters from Snack Bar Basue!

Character #1: Akemi

Akemi

Akemi, the head mama of Snack Bar Basue, is known for her outstanding style and horny hairstyle, reminiscent of the heroine in a certain detective anime. She's beautiful when she's silent, but when she opens her mouth, she's not afraid to engage in dangerously vulgar jokes, current events, or even break the fourth wall. She's a jack-of-all-trades protagonist, able to play both the funny man and the straight man. Despite her straightforwardness, she has terrible luck with men, saddled with a huge debt left to her by a bad guy. The anime's official website claims that she captivates many customers with her charm, but she doesn't have many customers, so I can't help but feel that saying she's captivated is a bit misleading.

Character #2: Basue

Basue

The owner of "Snack Bar Basue." Despite her distinctive appearance, featuring a pompadour hairstyle and sunglasses, she's generally a good mother who gently watches over everyone from a distance, providing a sense of security. However, she can also sometimes act out of control as the comic relief character. She's also occasionally seriously injured in violent exchanges with Akemi, but she also possesses the resilience typical of comedy manga. Among the characters in Basue, who tend to have strong personalities and quirks, she's relatively well-rounded. She can be considered the conscience of the series.

Character #3: Amano Koame

Amano Koame

A part-timer working at Snack Basue. A quiet woman, Yamada is initially put off by the staff and regular customers at Basue, and even though she's a sensible character, she's always making sensible remarks. However, as the episodes progress, she gradually adapts, becoming increasingly out of touch with the world. Recently, she's become a representative example of troublesome young people with troublesome obsessions.

Character #4: Yamada

Yamada

An ordinary office worker who arrives at Basue with her senior colleague, Kazama, in the first episode. While initially put off by the eccentric behavior of the staff at Basue, she eventually becomes a regular customer. He's the most sensible character in the series. At first, he's confused by the Hajikerists' intense eccentricities, but he gradually gets used to them and makes sensible remarks. While he occasionally shows strong opinions, he never strays from the bounds of common sense. He's also strong-willed enough to not be swayed by the eccentric characters.

Character #5: Tatsu-nii

Tatsu-nii

A middle-aged regular customer. His real name is Tatsumi Takuro. He has a tough-looking face, but he's a friendly old man. He has the kind of troubles that only an old man can have, and he often comes to Basue for advice. He's worried about his declining physical strength and often comes to her for advice on hobbies and health, but they almost always end up with a vague, indecisive conclusion.

Character ⑥: Morita

Morita

A very ugly, bespectacled male regular. Not only is his face physically repulsive, but his behavior is also extremely disgusting. He particularly wants to lose his virginity, but he's proud of it. He also makes overly realistic, vivid, and disgusting remarks that leave Akemi completely turned off. However, there is some truth to his statements. While they may seem unreasonable, they are actually quite common sense, which can lead to people understanding his opinions even when they don't want to. Morita is a total creep at the snack bar, but he was once bullied for his quirks and is well-known for his self-deprecating humor. While he's the face of the show, he has a good sense of common sense and, for better or worse, doesn't seem to show his true self outside the bar.

Character #7: Kazama

Kazama

Yamada's senior at work is a frivolous and insensitive guy. He's almost as ugly as Morita, unable to read the mood and overreacting to everything, but unlike Morita, he's not a virgin and is even married with a child. In episode 1, he forces Yamada into the bar, but realizes it's a dangerous establishment and abandons Yamada, running away. However, he somehow manages to become a regular customer. He's actually a former classmate of Morita's, and Morita has a hard time dealing with him.

Character #8: Azuma Miki

Azuma Miki

A male regular customer in a suit with skin that looks like it could be from a tanning salon. He's a fairly popular playboy who tries to woo Akemi, but before he even knew it, he'd become accustomed to introducing her to the works of his beloved author, Douglas Hamada. His life guidance is largely based on Douglas Hamada's how-to books, and it's no exaggeration to say he blindly follows them. However, he's generally quite sensible in other areas. Apparently, he was once a delicate, handsome boy who was sexually harassed by girls. Is this based on Azuma Mikihisa?

Character #9: Kawa-chan

Kawa-chan

A regular customer who looks like a rapper, wearing a cap and sunglasses. He appears less frequently and has gained and lost weight. Despite his scary appearance, he's actually quite sensible and easygoing, and he even pulls off some Basue-style comedic comedies.
His infrequent appearances are likely due to him also frequenting another bar, and he once even brought the bar owner to Basue.

Character 10: The Hero

The Hero

A man dressed like the hero from Dragon Quest III. He clearly came to the wrong place, mistaking the bar for a job placement agency (Luidia's Tavern), and has otherworldly common sense. However, the bar itself was actually transported to the hero's world. He occasionally appears afterward.

[Snack Basue] Character Summary

This time, I've put together a list of the characters appearing in Snack Basue. While there are other characters who appear, there are also quite a few who only appear once. I'm looking forward to seeing how these characters will be cast. I'm also curious to see how much of the show will be allowed to air. It will start airing in January 2024, so I hope you'll tune in!
