Let's start by reviewing some basic information about Rem! While many people may think of Re:Zero as the first character, she's not actually the heroine. Rem is a maid at the Roswaal Mansion, where the heroine Emilia lives. She has a twin sister named Ram, and although they have different hair colors, they share a similar appearance and aura! However, Rem feels inferior to her sister Ram, and we gradually learn that their personalities are quite different.

Twins are shunned by the demon tribe and are disposed of at birth... Rem and Ram were born into such a clan. However, because their older sister Ram was a "child prodigy" with incredible powers, Rem and Ram were spared. The morning after the incident with the demon beast that made her fall in love with Subaru, Rem stayed with him until he woke up from his unconscious state. Once he woke up, Rem revealed the worries and weaknesses she had been carrying. Subaru accepted her, and she responded with this self-indulgent remark! Rem crying as she spoke was so adorable that I've chosen this as one of her most charming quotes.
"I love you... alive..."
After chasing Subaru, who had been kidnapped by the Witch Cultists, Rem finally reaches the Archbishop of Sin, Petelgeuse, but she's already in a terrible state. Petelgeuse then breaks every bone in her body. Still, she crawls over to Subaru, musters her last bit of strength, breaks the shackles that are holding him, and utters these words before dying in his arms. Of course, she dies again after dying, but this scene is impossible to watch without tears.
"You have to laugh when you talk about the future."
After returning from death countless times and experiencing despair, Subaru finally gives up on everything and asks Rem to "run away with me." Seeing the anguished expression on Subaru's face, who always smiles as he talks about the future, Rem declines, uttering this line.
In fact, after this line, she adds, "If we run away together now, I'll be leaving behind the person I love most, Subaru." She then goes on to say, "Rem knows that Subaru is..." This scene, in which she reveals everything she loves about Subaru, makes Episode 18 of the anime a truly magical episode, brimming with Rem's charm.
What will happen to Rem in Season 2?
At the end of Season 1, Rem was injured in the battle with the White Whale and returned to the royal capital to focus on recovery. As a result, she didn't appear at all in the last three episodes of the anime. However, in the novel, Rem and the other returning group were attacked by the Archbishop of Gluttony on their way back to the royal capital after the battle with the White Whale. Rem then disappeared from everyone's memory except for Subaru and Beatrice, and remains unconscious and asleep.
It's highly likely that she will remain asleep in Season 2.
In the novel, Rem is asleep, so it's likely that she will remain asleep after the scene where she is attacked at the beginning of Season 2. Of course, if that were to happen, Subaru, who received so much love from Rem, wouldn't stay silent, so he'll likely search for a way to help her. The Season 2 promotional video only shows Subaru approaching the witch with an angry expression, so what happens to Rem is purely speculation!
